In this video, bullying expert Brooks Gibbs play's the "Bully Game" with a teacher, showing them how bullying works... but more importantly how to stop it. This was filmed at a teacher in-service program.
This role play game was invented by school psychologist Izzy Kalman and has proven to be an affective way to explain social dynamics to kids.

This teacher was employing Brooks' tactics on Brooks, making it very difficult for Brooks to do his normal game. That was great!

Correct me if I’m wrong, this technique is called “fogging”. It means to agree, at least partially, with what the bully is saying in a neutral or positive way. It disarms the bullies because any insults are being swallowed into a black hole of agreement...

Thanks!!! This changed my life! Even though I knew I was losing I got even more upset since no one is able to see what those fkng bullies do. I learned my lessons, it‘s not about who did wrong and who not, it is about winning the game. And that „fogging“ technique leads you there. Bullies pick on you since they enjoy your upsetting reaction..You just need to disarm that by agreeing or laufhing it off.

This is cool but does bullying ever really look like this? every experience of bullying ive ever had has been more subtle. Id like to know more about dealing with the subtle bullying.

Like when someone's exclusion is not necessarily spelt out or said so obviously. You can't verbally react to those who exclude you with nothing more than being mean "turn around" "go away" "fuck off" kids say things like that to you and it's hard to know how to deal with people being very nasty to you.

Unfortunately some have "the gift of the gab" and sweet talk their way out of ANY situation and it's really hard to bully someone when you really want to because most people don't feel the need to hurt others. That's probably why the principal couldn't bully Brooks easily - because it was a somewhat unrealistic example of how a true bully would behave.
@SalvadorDaliLama

What if the bully maliciously screws with the person's life? I don't think admitting to being an idiot is healthy. I think positive self talk is very important. The point is IDGAF what you say if your being a jerk. Good tool, but simple. I appreciate how it doesn't bully the bully.

I used it in high school way before his teachings as a student being victimized by verbal abuse bullies. Back then I believe people called it reverse psychology. Worked for me. I still use it today in the comments section on every social media platform, but especially on YT

Yeah, unfortunately, that little mantra isn't going to help you out a whole lot when a bully gets his hands on you and starts pounding your face into the ground. Good luck saying "This is a crime". The lesson is this: learn to defend yourself.

Is not that simple. For instance, I work in a health care facility, and some years ago, I was in the middle of a phD program and my population of study was the patients with chronic kidney failure. The bully didn’t yell at me. She didn’t said you’ re not going to get your phD degree here!’ Tbe ‘bully’ acts in a very subtle way. She simple just changed me to a different department, you see? No more chronic kidney disease population anymore 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Of course not. This is complete nonsense. If a bully is determined to fuck up your day, the last thing you want to do is debase yourself in front of the bully. This works for low-level "bullies", but it's absolute suicide if the bully has real malicious intent.

What an ABSOLUTE crock of shit. The speaker did NOT win. He ended the conversation. A determined bully isn't going to pull off harassment when you make yourself vulnerable. This might work on low-level bullies, but I wouldn't recommend debasing yourself in front of a nasty bully. That's blood in the water. Try defusing. When that doesn't work, you have to confront the bully.

@MoizRafay
@MoizRafay 2 года назад
"There's only one reason you get bullied: You get upset". This is the truth. You don't have to debase yourself. You can be a non-fearful egoic person in other ways. He doesn't prescribe the method of acting. He simply tells the truth of what the bully needs to happen. Trying to confront the bully also means the bully wins and escalates the situation to potentially violence when there's a root cause that could be addressed first even if you do wanna escalate to violence.

you probably didnt get his point he was making in the video because you behave exactly like a bully wants you to behave (getting all upset and triggered). i have type 1 diabeties myself and let me tell you one thing you either learn to laugh about it or your gonna have a bad time, no one needs you to police language on behalf of diabetics we can handle our own. also best wishes to your kids
