I think you did a much better job describing the way you solved this puzzle than previous puzzle hunt puzzles you've covered. Offering several ways you would have attempted to solve the puzzle before finding the right solution helps it not feel like the answer is just random. Good job FLEB keep up the great work!
Oh, hi, I'm the singing bee. I was googling for this puzzle I wrote a decade ago because I wanted to show my co-workers how I invented bee-cappella. And I discovered this RU-vid video analyzing my work and I am tickled pink -- I never have to explain this puzzle again, I can just send people here. And I must say, the bit starting at 3:49 where you zoom in on my pixelated, slowed down, singing face is the closest I hope to ever get to being featured in a true crime documentary!
Yes! Another puzzlehunt! Quite a weird one, but nothing would top that fishy songs puzzle. My jaw really dropped when you mentioned that aha! moment. Can't imagine how good it actually feels when you thought of that while solving it.
This one reminds me a lot of the old website Notpron. Some of those puzzles would be so wild and in-depth. Some of them required an odd understanding of music. Such fun memories trying to figure those out years ago.
You seemed to enjoy making this one. It's interesting how some people "cringe" when they see someone else having a bit of fun. Let loose, and let them cringe. Thanks for another interesting video.
ooo I loved this video! It was completely different from your other mechanical puzzle videos, and the editing was also superbly done. The puzzle was extremely interesting too, as puzzle hunt puzzles usually are. Keep it up, Fleb! I can't wait for more videos like this :)
All the puzzles you post are amazing but this one in particular seems to have a ton of thought put into it. After the puzzle do you find out more about the author(s) and what their thought process was? I get you can piece it together by solving it but do they release their own steps to what led them to create this puzzle?
Awesome....loved it.....and I am a music buff....and old.....but alas, was not familiar with "Bumblebee Tune-a" puzzle....now I am....and will never be able to solve on my own....thanks...........just kidding....awesome....;)
I'm not a huge fan of puzzles that require you to be able to identify songs that can't be identified with something like shazam. It makes the barrier to entry much to high as it is either something you know or your don't. I have a fairly solid knowledge of music and I was only able to get 6/10. With the help of my mother in law who was in her prime in the 60's I managed to get 2 more. Without a large group or the ability to run around and ask strangers this type of puzzle is almost impossible. I had to have my wife peak ahead in the video to get Monday Monday, and White Rabbit. Fortunately the struggle of figuring out the songs had me googling enough to spot the B-side step, and get the ordering by year worked out.
The 'Numbers of letters column' corresponds to the length of the B side title, this wasn't so clear in the video but confirms you're on the right track when solving the puzzle!
Dang, I would have gotten stuck at the music identification part (AKA the first step). I've merely heard the names of 3/10 of the A-Sides, and only know the tunes to 2/10, and it's possible that the irritating bee renditions could have reduced my recognition even further. It's a bit alienating to everyone who isn't approaching senior status.
I'ma bit confused - Fleb said we used every piece of information, but I don't see how the column 'number of letters' helped with the solution. Sorry if that's stupid!
The number of letters column matched the number of letters in the names of the songs on the B side of the singles. The only purpose it solved was as a checkpoint, to let you know you were on the right track.
Although I've never done anything like this it sounds like the answer checker doesn't penalize wrong answers, so work until you have something before checking it. If it's wrong, keep going. Just a guess
The number of letters refers to how long the title of the B-side is. 10 letters = Ask Any Girl, 14 letters = I Want To Be Happy, etc. It's used as a 'checkpoint' so that you know you're on the right track.
