CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Evan (Ashton Kutcher) performs the last act he can to save the people he loves, strangling himself with his umbilical cord at the moment of his birth.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Final Destination 2 screenwriters Eric Bress and J. Mackye Gruber make their directorial debut with the sci-fi thriller The Butterfly Effect. Evan Treborn (Ashton Kutcher with facial hair) wants to free himself from his disturbing childhood memories. As a kid, he often blacked out for long periods of time and tried to detail his life in a journal. As a young adult, he revisits the journal entries to figure out the truth about his troubled childhood friends Kayleigh (Amy Smart), Lenny (Elden Henson), and Tommy (William Lee Scott). When he discovers he can travel back in time in order to set things right, he tries to save his beloved friends. However, he finds out that relatively minor changes can make major problems for the future. The Butterfly Effect also stars Eric Stoltz, Ethan Suplee, and Melora Walters. The title was inspired by the story A Sound of Thunder by Ray Bradbury.

And yes the other two stillborns did the same as Evan, they explain Evan's father and grandfather have the same ability as Evan. My theory is that they where never meant to be born or existed, they are unique souls outside the metaphore and have it's own creator like a God almost. And I think Evan's grandfather was created by accident and he should'nt existed and same for Evan's father because he is created by the grandfather and same for Evan. @@misterbobby8913 It wasn't miserable for "the sake" of being miserable. The entire movie was written for that specific ending. The point of the movie was that no matter what path he took, it always ended badly. He figured out that he was the cause of all the suffering. Remmber the psychic scene? She told him that he has no soul and that he shouldn't exist. The happy ending basically nullifies most of the the movie just to appease the audience who just wants a typical Hollywood happy ending. Not all movies have to have a generic Hollywood happy ending. That what makes such movies great. This is actually a great ending, makes you think about other 3 stillborn's having the same defect. I also love how dark it is, but in my opinion, the best outcome would have been when Evan talked to Tommy and Kayleigh's dad about being a loving and responsible father and not a pedophile. He should have threaten him to be better to both kids rather than just Kayleigh, so Tommy didn't turn out to be a Psychopath. He could have just as easily went back to right that wrong.

Donae Morrow he meant be a responsible and loving father to both tommy and kayleigh because Evan assumed that tommy was meant to be a psycho and lashed out at their father to discipline him more strictly in one version of his time travel. This resulted in tommy's dad unleashing all his wrath on tommy alone according to Kayleigh who said her father never touched her but saved it all on tommy.

@karenguessman5461

Yeah because tommy was probably only sadistic because of having to grow up with his sicko dad and when he went back in time to tell off tommy’s Dad he shouldn’t have made it 100x worse on tommy growing up by adding how sadistic tommy was for some stuff that hadn’t technically happened yet since he went further into the past back before tommy went completely nuts but I guess the ending was better with him choosing to tell kalley that he never wanted to see her ever again but each ending is sad either way
@Shawn6751
@Shawn6751 5 лет назад
@@karenguessman5461 I thought the baby scene was better after watching the director's cut, foot enter mouth. They are going to do a reboot on this movie as of 2013. The plans have fallen through in which would have created another franchise. Hollywood would probably blow it up anyways. You can thank the mad genius who thought incesting was a good idea for the third sequel for the basis of a serial killer created by via butterfly effect. The directors will not get the sour tastes of their mouths anytime soon. Gremlins will have a sequel in which Hollywood is going to ruin a classic like they pussified Slenderman (from a badass of the horror storytelling genre to the worst horror film that I have ever seen). Sony redeemed themselves with Venom with Marvel's help.

Theatrical ending has a bittersweet feeling to it. It's sad in a way that Evan forces himself to block the true love out of his life, but it's also cheesy having Evan recover too well from the past events. Remember that he had a brain damage from time traveling too much? Nose bleeds? In theatrical version he magically recovers from that. I think Director's Cut works better in staying consistent, and it's also shockingly depressing which leaves a very memorable feeling afterwards. Life is cruel and the Director's Cut didn't shy away from showing how it is.

I couldn't believe what I saw the first time, but I am glad this is the first one I saw of the endings. I feel like it used the butterfly effect theme the best. The entire concept of a tiny change in starting state leading to a totally unpredictable cascade of events, and that the only way to ensure it doesn't occur is to simply not change the starting state at all. Evan desperately tried to make everything good, but it became clear that there were simply too many variables and too much unpredictability. Taking himself out of the picture means time gets to progress normally without interruption, and from the epilogue of sorts it seems like everyone lived happily (well, his mom eventually did) ever after, more so than in any other timeline. Besides Evan of course. He made the biggest sacrifice, and it did admittingly basically spell it out what happened to the previous "stillbirths" as well, which would be neat to leave unresolved. I view it as a more extreme version of the theatrical ending. In both of them Evan takes himself out of the picture, but I liked how this ending actually put some weight behind Jason's wish to end the curse with Evan. And hey, since it's a silly time travel movie you can just view the 4 endings as the conclusions to 4 different timelines, that all exist independently to make it less sad if you want!

I think this ending is very emotional and impressive, but I'm glad they went with the theatrical ending, because I think it's possible to change everything for the better and still live. Remember the movie "It's a Wonderful Life"? It showed that George's existence actually proved that his life truly mattered. NO, he didn't have the power to time travel, nor did everybody else he knew have miserable lives, but I think committing suicide before you were even born is NOT something that you should do.

That's your heart playing tricks on you. And even the concept of "knowing in your heart" is really just your mind playing tricks on you. A good amount of our population are people born with a greater tendency towards sadness, loneliness, anger, anxiety, and depression. I'm sorry you're one of the unlucky ones who are tormented by negative emotion. Seek help from the professionals that can point you in the right direction if you have to. But truly, the only antidote is the comfort that radiates off of others. Absorb it. Let their positivity fuel you. Feel that warmth as hard as you can. Because you are not a burden. You are not a curse. You are a gift to the world. Regardless of the past, you can leave a meaningful impact and improve the lives of your loved ones for the better.

In the parent evenings scene his mom says: "Before you where born, i was pregnant two times" In the ending scene she says 3 times. That means that Evan is reborn for a third time. The guy at the ending that marries Kayleigh "looks" like Evan, but slightly different and younger. My theory is that he was born for a third time, Kayleigh never met Evan and went with her mom and she somehow met the third time Evan later.

actually no....the baby has consciousness way before that...the only difference is, a baby does not differentiate between itself and it's mother until a year or so after being born - scientific study in this movie...because Evan goes back in time, he basically replaces the original consciousness of a baby with his older self's knowledge and understanding - just like he always had when he went back in time.

In this part, He is basically just choking himself out. He isn't really in the past but having the ability to change the past, That is why he doesn't have to relive his whole live every time he goes back. So this shows he is linked in a plane between two realities in which is the Present and the other is the past. He always returns to the Present after he changes the past. So it shows he is more leaning in the reality of the present. but He is only able to go to the past due to a time sequence of the past, Such as Pictures or Written notes or even video, Basically any documentation of the past allows a split reality in which to go and alter the past. The Movie would make no sense if he went in the past completely since it would mean disregard of the info he learned from the Present and make him have to relive his life. So having explained that, He altered the past in which made him none Existent.

"Many heros are often those whom we never meet." This was the perfect ending for me as the directors cut was the first version I saw, to say I am very glad I did is an understatement. The nail that shot the true depressing deliverance of the story was the line of how she told him her other children were stillborn (now Ashtons character to add to those losses). This really has you ponder what kind of bad luck everyone had when all her sons and daughters made the decision to not take lifes gift and choose death for what ever reason they deemed fit. I digress that no one absolutely no one can understand or imagine what happens after we leave or if we never existed to begin with. Its why this particular story of the butterfly effect delivers flawlessly with this ending added. It has us imagine other stories, possibilities of what could and couldn't have. This story gives us the luxury to see that his sacrifice payed off, however I dont believ that would happen the same way every time if you were to put those same numbers in. It is quantifyingly unimaginable how many possibilities the butterfly effect can give us, and how that power should not be tampered with. I am grateful I dont know what will happen next. Life's greatest adventure is its unknown and terror. We should never have that godly power, it would explode our heads, that data, that knowledge. I'm content I live a somewhat satisfying life not without sacrifice or loss. This movie always has been a 10/10 for me since I saw it for the first time at a young age.

It's so powerful. To think he chose to sacrifice himself to save Kayleigh. There's only one person in the world who means enough to me that I'd sacrifice myself to save her entire life and I would. Really makes you think. The ending they used was good, it all worked out for everyone that way, but this ending was so good and impactful, they shouldn't have chickened out and just used it.

This movie always makes me think of a very special childhood friend whom I met when I was only twelve years old on 7th grade. He was/still is an amazing friend but also a boy whom I had my first serious crush on and shared my first kiss with. Sometime I wonder what would have happened if I hadn’t never met my amazing friend. Sadly we lost contact for over fifteen years due to us both at the time being in the military and he had to move off to Hawaii. After he moved off, my world fell apart and it also didn’t help that at that time in my life having moved up to 8th grade, I found myself the target for constant bullying. Needless to say my relationship with my parents hasn’t always been a good one and no one and I do mean no one was able to reach out to me to build a healthy relationship with my parents despite their past mistakes to forgive them. Well 15 years later, my good friend and I reconnected and just out of nowhere I started building my broken relationship with my parents and life has been great from here. When he came back into my life, something changed and a certain peace was gained back. We still remain friends till this day and we do both have different lives now but there will always be a part of me that will always love him in some type of way. When I was bullied, even though he was miles away at that point off in Hawaii I would have dreams of him comforting me from my real life bullies. Anyway…The Butterfly Effect always makes me wonder how my childhood and life would have been had I’d never met him.

Yeah me too. Back then it didn’t go over well during pre release screening reviews. Which a lot people might not know that majority of filmmakers especially attached to big studios. They do a bunch of free screenings for films not release and the audience has to partake in a detailed review. if viewers dislike the ending enough the director will change the ending. At this time many people back then hated the idea of any main protagonist dying. It only really started to become more normalization after films like “skeleton key” and the “The Mist” came out. It at first come to a big shock and many weren’t found of the concept still but over time people then like the idea that anything can really happen including the protagonist dying and the ending is heartbreaking. Because even though this was sad. I do like this ending better.
