This work uses visual media and a motion sensor to guide the triggering and processing of Buzuq’s latent sound, presenting an innovative, semi-virtual manifestation of the traditional acoustic instrument. Improvisatory parallels to the compositional process translate hand gestures into sonic information via the MUGIC® motion sensor, manipulating various timbral and technical aspects of conventional Buzuq sound. The new edition includes composed parts for Cello to accompany the narrative, borrowing and rearranging musical phrases for this specific performance. Each rehearsal yielded unique results on the Canvas.
