The Byrds had so many great songs! Their musicianship, jangly folk-rock guitar sound, great harmonies & lyrics, etc. The 60's would not have been the same without them.
This song was about Julia Dreyer, who became David Freiberg's wife at 16. They divorced in 79. She lives in Santa Rosa, California and has a new book out called, Girl, An Untethered Life.
Julia was also the 'Jane' of the Jefferson Starship song - Jeff Beck's 'Girl From Mill Valley' - Steve Miller's 'Quicksilver Girl' - and the Doobie Brothers' 'Quicksilver Princess'
chris hillman singing about jim morrison's future girlfriend and in western bluegrassy hot dusty roads style long before the cowboy thing got cosmic, great musician who put the rumbling take off bass on eight miles high.
Come from a commentator from Vietnam War song and learned this group at that time. Pretty cool for that era and scoop this piece into my WM :).......................STF..............................
I hear Hillman and Crosby in a kind of duet at times, though Hillman's voice seems to be the lead most of the time. McGuinn's voice seems to be in a kind of background harmony role at most. It's not much in evidence in this song, unlike so many Byrds songs.
