The Byrds had so many great songs! Their musicianship, jangly folk-rock guitar sound, great harmonies & lyrics, etc. The 60's would not have been the same without them.

Clarence White, his guitar solo is very understated and fits the song like glove .

I think Clarence just did the session. if you look at producer Gary Usher interview he talks about the recording ,Clarence wasn't in the band.

Clarence White's twangy B bender licks add so much to this tune.
@RockinAllDay

The B-bender wasn't invented by Clarence and Gene Parsons at the time. It was made in '68, I believe.

My favorite Byrds song. Normally I would wish a song like this to be longer, but it's also perfect as it is.

This song was about Julia Dreyer, who became David Freiberg's wife at 16. They divorced in 79. She lives in Santa Rosa, California and has a new book out called, Girl, An Untethered Life.
@SimbianMinistry

Julia was also the 'Jane' of the Jefferson Starship song - Jeff Beck's 'Girl From Mill Valley' - Steve Miller's 'Quicksilver Girl' - and the Doobie Brothers' 'Quicksilver Princess'

Can anyone hear Jim McGuinn's vocals on this? I know he usually sang the unison parts, but in this song, I feel like he's on harmony.

@surfwriter8461
@surfwriter8461 Год назад
I hear Hillman and Crosby in a kind of duet at times, though Hillman's voice seems to be the lead most of the time. McGuinn's voice seems to be in a kind of background harmony role at most. It's not much in evidence in this song, unlike so many Byrds songs.
