I don't know. The negative image projected by Rolex watches and my own deep values are separating, and wearing my Rolexes becomes something rare, with no pride, no adrenaline kick, no awe. The watches look beautiful, are great quality, but they're no longer watches I dream of. The emotion is no longer there. Rolex watches have sold their soul, and they're synonymous with greed. They're dead objects.
Im so proud of you that you did not pull the trigger my friend stating that it was not a good time for you. Love your honesty ! You are a genuine watch guy!
I think that if you present yourself to an AD in the most favorite light (professional, successful person, nicely dressed, well-groomed, well mannered, congenial personality, already possessing and wearing luxury branded goods, etc.), and not overly obsessed with Rolex, you can jump to the top of whatever wait list they may have.
Having had “the call” on several occasions I can say that sticking to your fiscal principles is something that is both honorable and necessary for this upside down world of watches. Hopefully your AD respects your decision. If not, find another AD. Going into debt or worse just to possess a Rolex May sour your love for watches in the long term. Knowing that you are collecting with the right principles will extend your collecting journey. Great story!!
my dad died November 9, 2022....I got the call on the on November 11, 2022. Red line is now on my wrist. only 77 emails over the last 3 years from my old AD to get it. Just found your channel. Love it! great watch!!! congrats. (my history with this AD was 7 watches ...last purchase was 2009.
You may be right. I got the call about 2 weeks ago for a Batman, I was surprised. I had been waiting less than a year. The timing was also less than ideal but I bought it. That being said I dont anticipate any more watch purchases for a while ha
I moved to a new big city, stopped in AD, asked about a datejust, they called me 3 days later. Was not expecting that! Definitely think supply is coming in. Makes me wary to go back and ask for another until im sure and ready.
"The call". Nice. You did something probably most people wouldn't do, turn down "the call". Even if you consider getting into debt for it. The watch collector's mind can jump through all kinds of hoops, "well I have to put in on a credit card but the watch will appreciate more than the interest so...." cha ching. Well you may not have that Rolex but you also don't have the financial burden of _that_ Rolex so I believe a congratulations is in order.
I rang ad downunder who I had no history with and said I’d like to enquire about a Rolex explorer and he rang me back the next day and said he had a client lined up for one who then declined it and I was only waiting 20 hours. On the flip side I turned down a gmt and sub at an airport in Middle East which was stupid😂
That gmt was especially hurtful to hear. But yeah, we’re the only kind of people in the world who feels stabbed by a missed purchase I guess. More than maybe a person who actually got stabbed.
Getting the call from your rolex dealer is like that elusive girl finally putting out to you LMAO but turning them down must be double the pleasure, like saying no to the girl that tormented you for so long, and has now finally decided to stoop down to your level.
@@DesignAtelier for me? Nooo, I don't even put myself on any lists. I am not a rolex fan boy. As for girls, yes sure, plenty of times. It's a number's game - can't have them all ;)
I stopped into an out-of-state authorized dealer this summer and bought a Cartier Santos. During the transaction, we got to talking about Rolex. I told my salesperson that I have found the process super frustrating and had kind of given up. She asked me what model I liked and I told her everything I enjoyed about the updated Air King. She guaranteed she would get me one. Said it might take a year, but it would happen. I got the call 75 days later. My understanding is that it happened so quickly because she went a step further than putting me on the list. She actually put the order in for the watch. I was only partially ready since it came way sooner than I was expecting. I looked at it like moving money around. I am on the list for another as of right now. I need this Rolex to take its time coming to me. If it comes sooner than expected, I may have to make a difficult decision to either sell some watches I really like or pass. We have to do what's best for our financial situation. There is no point in going into debt over our hobby. You did the right thing for you and it's commendable
thanks bro. i wish we had more ADs like you had. super cool of the to go the extra mile. thats true service right there. As someone in the service side of businesses, i applaud hard working people like that. and yes avoid debt like its the black plague. best principle to live by.
Great video 👌🏻 good on you for making the right decision for you. Do you find that blue Datejust 41 fluted bezel on jubilee bracelet as your favourite and do you find it is a good choice for a one and done everyday versatile Rolex watch for both casual wear as well as more formal business? Thanks I take it if you go for a Rolex in the future you want this Datejust most ?
I was just in Aruba getting the eye roll from my wife every time we walked by a luxury watch store. She knows that it’s almost impossible for me not to at least go in and look!
Not sure what it is but I got the call last week from AD for the GMT Pepsi! A few days after picking up that beauty, I got a call from an AD for Audemars Piguet for a Royal Oak Offshore that I had put my name on in the summer. Unexpected and no funds for that so I had to pass
Really enjoyed the video, you did the right thing, you should feel very proud of yourself. Debt can destroy lives and 'unnecessary debt' is the worst kind of all, well done 👍
indeed there are more important things than a rolex. come to think of it, we had such a great time we almost forgot to take a picture of the dinner. the dinner itself was more important.
Nice Video, "Asian Face Dude" lol. Your humor is subtle, I like that. Your love of people is evident. It takes a lot strength to resist the temptation to get that ROLEX. You said that you already have (one)! Great! You brought your OMEGA to the dinner! Also Great! Look forward to your videos.
Great video talking about watchs love ur videos I would love a rolex explorer but in the end i got tudor gmt and love it to bits 😀 I've just pick up a g shock gmw5000 wow it so Beautiful 4 the money 💰
Rolex is not my cup of tea, but I certainly get a clear and enjoyable understanding of the meaning of The Call from your excellent tale here. The dinner story was even more blissful and yes, community is a most wonderful aspect of the hobby!
We always hear about the 1 Mio watches Rolex produces but nobody ever mentions the fact that half of that production are models people are not interested in. Breaking the catalog down to the hot models one could say that these models are quite limited compared to the demand. Saying that a Panda or Pepsi isn’t rare is only half the truth.
I am sure it’s much harder at where you live to get Rolex watches but it’s getting really crazy to be thinking that getting a call for date just is special
well im kinda there. i still have my sub. And thats still the best financial purchase i have done so far. but hey my civic has done its great service with our family.
the shows are cut into smaller pieces for the pirates out there that jump out of the show in the first 2 mins. You my friend is the proper pirate and will be inducted to the horological pirate hall of fame for noticing that this was posted already. you will be banned from the channel for 64 seconds for questioning the logic.
Mere idea of getting excited about receiving a call from a sales person offering you to sell an ovepaid item as a "privilage" is ridiculous. It really is. Rolex watches are nice, well done, but nothing exceptional. They're not better than any comparable swiss watches, yet priced 2, 3, 4, 5, times more. And people still fall for Rolex's marketing bullshit of waitlists, ridiculous pricing and all that false narrative. Amazing proof of Rolex success. Unbelieveable.
I was lucky my local rep always kept me in the loop, but I have to agree the meeting was the far more important thing being in an area bereft of collectors I fully understand.
