React to the 2002 Gold Medal Game. It was momentous, as it was Canada's first gold medal in 50 years. Link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5o9mfYq-phY.html
as a Canadian i can tell you this goal meant so much more than any championship, Stanley cup, or world cup. this was our game, played on our soil, playing for the olympic gold. but its the fact that it was on our soil at the highest level that made it so special. to state just how passionately Canadians felt about this game i can say 2 facts about what happened that day. 1 is the entire country shut down, not joking, even planes in airports were not able to take off because the passengers refused to board so they could watch. and the second being that it was the most watched broadcast in Canadian history, over 16 million televisions were tuned in (not 16million people, 16 million televisions), in a country of only 30 million at the time. there was somthing really magic that happened in our country during the 2010 olympics
That sign at the beginning "I Prefer Canadian over Miller" works in so many ways. First of all Canadian is a brand of Canadian (obviously) beer and Miller is a popular brand of American beer. Secondly, the name of the Team USA's goalie was Ryan Miller
IGGY! IGGY! You absolutely need to do a Jarome Iginla highlights, he assisted the “Golden Goal”, he’s the “Iggy” that Crosby is yelling to right before he scores! Greatest Calgary Flames player of all time. Scored, hit, fought and was the top player in the league for a time in the 2000’s. An absolute beast of a player.
Jerome is a hockey players hockey player, he's not flashy but the man's name is synonymous with hard work and grit It's not surprising he doesn't get much recognition from the outside sporting world, if you don't know the sport you won't recognize why half of the shit he does is incredible
Agreed, Iggy was a beast. He’d score, he could set up, he could play nasty and he could drop the gloves if needed. What a great hockey player. But more than that, HE WAS/IS PURE CLASS OFF OF THE ICE!!! The volume of good deeds he’s performed in the community is LEGENDARY!! Love IGGY........and I’m a Leafs fan. 👍🏼👍🏼
I always liked the sound of a city exploding. You know exactly when the goal is scored if you watch ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YMvFoixHH3U.html
Twelve years later and this video brought tears to my eyes. Here in Canada all you have to say is "golden goal" and almost everyone knows what you are referring to. We are hockey. Here we are 50 years after the 72 summit series and every hockey fan knows and can visualize the goal if you say "Henderson scores" and game 3 of the 1987 Canada Cup, " Lemieux to Gretzky back to Lemieux ...SCORES". As much apart of us and our culture as the players themselves.
being a Canadian, this still brings tears of joy to my eyes. when Crosby scored, i'm sure most of the US could hear our whole country roar with cheering
Disasterpiece1 As an American, I can say yes...yes we could. Still heartbreaking to tie up the game last minute and lose, but losing to Canada makes it even worse xD GG Canada 🇨🇦 love from your southern Neighbors 🇺🇸
I think this game also highlighted how far America has come in hockey development. The US lost but damn... there was so much amazing talent on the ice for the American side. 1980 will still be the high mark for American hockey but this game showed the talent gap wasn't that far off.
@@chaost4544 Canada and the US continue to become even closer in terms of skill, most of the last few draft classes have been dominated by americans like the hughes
80% of Canadians watched at least part of this game. 26.5 million unique viewers, Canada's population in 2010 was 34 million. You can ask any Canadian where they were when this happened and almost all of us will have a story!
Even now 12 years later looking back at this game still makes me very emotional. A gold medal win is a win but to do it playing one of our national sports on home soil is truly something else. Thank you for reacting to this Adam.
Me too man. Top 5 moments in Canadian History. I was in Van that day, the sound of the cheer reverberated off the buildings. I swear you could hear the entire city cheering. Years later I met a deaf guy that was there too, he said he could feel the vibration in the sidewalk from a million people screaming at once. I will never, ever forget that moment. Ever.
It was an incredibly unifying moment in Canada, I spent the game at a rooftop party in downtown Vancouver and you could hear the roar across the river when that golden goal went in! Kind of amusing as it came in initial waves due to the time delay in satellite, cable and media feeds. Definitely a moment I'll always remember.
The international women's games are more interesting, the teams are less "superstar" teams, they train together through the year, and they play against the same teams all the time so they make serious rivalries.
I was at a bar at a ski hill in the states for that game and when we scored to win in OT three quarters of the bar sang O Canada. One of the coolest moments I've seen.
Omg as a female hockey player that game was the most nerve racking since Canada was being dominated the whole game and Marie-Philip Poulin played the heroin at the same end of the third and in OT.
I swear every single person in Canada was watching the game, I had my old hockey team over and a bunch of friends and family and we absolutely lost it, every time I watch it I get goosebumps. One great moment where every Canadian knew exactly where they were when Crosby scored
not every single person. As I recall, my little sisters were not watching with me. Actually, I may have been the only one in my family really watching the game, at least into overtime...
React to : "NHL : Deflections" Deflections are an aspect of the game you haven't really touched so far. An aspect that is terrifying since they're done by the players almost in front of the shots but Oh so satisfying to watch when done right.
@@bobbydubbs7332 It is Stephen Harper, he was present at the game, and was PM at the time the game was played. I remember the CBC camera on him during the game.
This game was everything. 38 millions people coming together in celebration. These reactions of people will always make me cry. What a moment. What a game. What a goal. I love my country. Go Canada
I was 10 during that game, and I'm an American. With five minutes left my dad shut off the TV and said the game was going to be a loss for the US. Three minutes later I snuck in and watched the last few, and when Parise scored I ran upstairs screaming to get my family to watch the rest of the game. Completely unforgettable game, kudos to you guys up North on the win, it was spectacular and an all-time classic.
This game was amazing! I was in grade 2 at the time of the Olympics and remember hearing updates daily at school. I was so proud to be a Canadian and to see our nation come together, and of course this game. This game had me jumping for joy on the couch not only because of how great the team was, but because OUR team won on home soil. Let’s go Canada! 🇨🇦
Every country in the world was watching. I'm from BC, an hour from Vancouver. Everybody on the highway was pulled over listening on the radio, NO one was on the streets, even the homeless and drug addicts were watching in TV stores. (No joke) I remember as soon as we scored windows were breaking all over town from how loud it was. All of vancouver went nuts, boats blasting their horns, every floor in every building was jam packed. Cars honking wherever you went, people screaming at the top of their lungs, I was sadly young and don't remember TOO much of the game nor the excitement but when I look back at it, everything I listed is what I remember.
I remember watching the game on tv, it was so intense, i lost my shit when sid scored and i still get goose bumps everytime i watch the replays again and again 🇨🇦
When you see Leaf fans hugging Canadian fans next to Flame fans embracing oiler fans in DT Vancouver, you are truly witnessing something epic. This was a great moment.
This is that perfect moment that made you a sports fan in the first place. I'll never forget it. this moment united the entire country in celebration, and pride It was truly magical It was also the final event of the winter Olympics, and sealed Canada as the first place finisher in medals
I'm a Canadian, was driving home from a ski trip and pulled into a pizza place in a town partway home to watch the game (BP in Hinton!!). It was crazy. I was on my own, but over that 3 hours we were all brother and sisters, yelling like loons! Adam, you sense the emotion, but across the country in bars, festival areas and people's homes it was palpable. The entire country shut down during the game. Great day!
I too had to downvote as well to get the upvote number closer to 12!.... But I am a Flames fan born and raised in Calgary, and it was nice to know my team was able to contribute a part to this masterpiece team. i fucking love that term. "The "IGGY!" heard around the world"
Some of us were at home with loved ones, jumping on the furniture and screaming our lungs out. Some of us were hugging strangers in the streets. Some wore rally caps, some held hands. Hockey is a beautiful sport (also, react to the 2014 women's Olympic finals in Sochi, please @Adam Couser !!!!! [I called that game and its one of my greatest accomplishments in life])
School library. Grade 6. Absolutely packed with students and teachers. Nobody was even talking until the goal was scored and everyone just started jumping around and hugging each other. One of my most fond memories and something I’ll never forget.
I can't believe that was 10 years ago! I remember watching the game with my brother and just losing it when we won and on home soil too, one of the best feelings ever. Only thing that makes it even better is that we also won the women's gold medal game and the sledge hockey gold at the Paralympics. Both games you should definitely check out. PLEASE watch the women's gold medal games in Vancouver and Sochi, they are incredible!!!
idk why this came up on my recommended but YO being from vancouver, 10 years old at the time, crosby scoring that game winning goal was such a HEROIC moment. i remember EXACTLY where i was with my family, on a cruise down false creek near which is right by downtown vancity and BROOO the ship ERUPTED when that goal was scored, my emotional ass cried too HAHAHA. loved this video man, love seeing the excitement around this moment in time
I was twelve years old. I watched this in school, our teacher put it up on the projector. Everyone decked out in red. One of the greatest hockey moments of my - and almost every Canadian's life.
Idk if anyone said it yet, but this was actually the most watched televised broadcast in Canadian history. It's estimated over 16 million people watched the game which was more than half of the countries population. In fact I just looked up the numbers and apparently 6 of the 7 most watched tv events in Canadian history all came from this one Olympics. The other one in the top 7 was the 2002 Olympic gold medal game lol
There was a top 5 players that played through injury video somewhere, Gregory Campbell and Patrice Bergeron were 1 and 2 I believe. Both from the 2013 playoff. Bergeron was playing with a punctured lung
So cute... he saw it all and still doesn't get how important this was. CL Final Manchester and Chelsea... Pfff... NOTHING compared to this. And hell yes I saw both
You're a real sport fan man! And this game showed the world why Sid is the greatest of all time. He does the impossible when the stakes are at their highest.
I'm crying watching this. Nothing makes me feel more proud to be a Canadian then to watch everyone, regardless of race or creed or anything, we came together as a nation to put our emotion collectively into our beloved sport. Thank you Adam for bringing back my love of this country and as such I deem you Canadian as well. Love you man.
Lol "2nd quarter? See I'm a professional!" - there are three "periods" in hockey :P. Also yeah game was massive in Canada. Every knows where they were. Canada won gold against USA in USA in 2002. USA isn't huge with hockey but the fans wanted revenge and they are generally pretty tight with Canada and the other top squads (Russia, Sweden) talent-wise. They had a good team that year. Also no McDavid on this team, the NHL hasn't at the Olympics since he joined the league. Thanks for bringing back the memories of this one. Ryan Kesler's tears are delicious. I think you will like "The Iggy heard round the world" - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_tvesS328vI.html
To put the magnitude of the game into context, roughly 16.6 million Canadians, or about half of the entire population was watching. I remember going out to get some drinks at a convenience store during intermission, and it felt like a ghost town outside. The dude in the convenience store was watching it on a little box TV on the counter. It's still the most watched TV event in Canadian history. Edit: Also, I looked it up, and all of the top five most viewed TV events in Canadian history were part of the 2010 games. The country just sort of collectively lost our minds over them.
It was definitely something that transcended sport. The pressure to win GOLD started the second Canada was awarded the 2010 Olympics and steadily built for years right up till that moment. Losing was not an option. Everyone, even those who don't follow hockey, felt it. When the puck went in in OT people could exhale for the first time in years. That's what it felt like.
Crosby had 7 points in 7 games (4 goals, 3 assists). Toews had 8 points in 7 games (1 goal, 7 assists). To say Crosby was unnoticeable is a fucking joke.
I was in Vancouver, sitting in a tiny restaurant about 4 blocks from the arena, watching that game on a tv that the owner brought in for the morning. Me and 3 friends had driven 12 hours straight to be in town that weekend for the game. When that goal went in, everyone went absolutely nuts. It took us 3 hours to get through the mob in the streets afterwards. I'll never forget that day
U should react to the Finland reacting to Winning 2019 IIHF world championship. Video by Timo Wilderness! It is even crazier than this video (title:Ice Hockey World championship to Finland)
The ROAR that ERUPTED from the STADIUM could be HEARD OUTSIDE from over a KILOMETER AWAY! REALLY!! It was AMAZING! Watching this video and the Country's reaction brought tears to my eyes and a lump in my throat! One of Canada's Greatest Moments in History. There had never been as much simultaneous national JUBILATION since the end of WWII! 🇨🇦🍁🇨🇦
This was an amazing game. I think it also shows how far American hockey development has come. Not only was it exciting but I also came away with the impression American hockey isn't a red headed step child anymore.
I literally get goosebumps just thinking about this game. The absolute pinnacle of amazing hockey I've seen in my life. When I heard Crosby yelling IGGY IGGY then he buried it. Knife through the heart. crushed my gold medal hopes. But man what a fucking game it was
Still one of the greatest moments of my life. I was 7 at the time, and my entire family, cousins, seconds cousins and all basically had a ski resort in Quebec to ourselves. We spent the whole day skiing, which by itself was amazing cuz it was the best ski hill I had ever been to by far. We came in to eat some dope cooking from my grandma, then we went back out to do some tubing on the ski hills, which was fucking awesome. Then when night hit we were in this bar with arcades, pool tables, ping pong tables, etc, but best of all there was the biggest fucking TV I had ever seen, especially for that time. In 2010, Crosby was my favourite player, since he he born and raised around 30 minutes from where I live, and the season prior I got to meet him face to face and got his signature after his stanley cup win. Combine that with the fact that he scored an overtime gold medal winning goal, just the cheers that filled the room, easily the best day of my life so far.
I watched this in my apartment in Korea at like 5am and lost my mind, quietly! I'd never felt so far from home! The video of the sound rising in Vancouver is amazing!
I'll never forget the moment. I was at basic training in St.Jean and we all were in the Pub on the base. It was so loud when he scored that my ears were ringing. I remember everyone was jumping and hugging eachother, no matter the rank.
Adam React to the 2 other amazing Canadian Sporting moments in the last 5 years 1. Raptors NBA title 2019 (especially the Kawhi Leonard shot) 2. Blue Jays 2015 ALDS game 5 (7th inning)
My pops and I jumped so high we threw beer all over my mum's ceiling and then jumped up and down with happy tears in our eyes. One of the happiest moments of my life. Then the following year my Canucks lost in game 7 in Vancouver for the cup! Talk about a year of highs to lows.
My Irish Fiancé at the time(he’s now my husband of 13 years) he got a severe crash course in Canadian PASSION for hockey during the 2010 Olympics, we were over visiting. He knew how intense we take our hockey, but he saw first hand the seriousness of it, being with my family! Now I was cooking dinner at the time, missed the actual goal, but hearing the screams from the sitting room which included my Déise future husband, I knew I chose wisely!
The reason why the win for this was so crazy and important is because not only is it canadas national sport but the golden cup was played on canadian soul. The home of hockey. Thats what made the matter of win or loss so special in my opinion
As a Canadian nothing comes close to the feeling of the Canadian hockey team at any level winning. 30 million Canadians lost the minds when that gold was scored. There are a few major moments in hockey that almost every Canadian can remember, Paul Henderson scoring winner against Russia in the 1972 Summit series, (one of the most amazing hockey series ever), Mario Lemieux from Gretzky in the 1987 Canada Cup vs Russia, and Crosby 2010 Gold medal. There are many others but those are the big ones that Canadians still get goosebumps watching. We love OUR game.
lmaoo your commentary is so good 😂 like it didn't matter if you were a hockey fan or not, every canadian tuned in and freaked the fuck out i think it's cause it was held in vancouver that it was such a MASSIVE deal. not to mention that it's the national sport and final gold medal game in the olympics. yeah it was huge lol
I was in Cole Harbour with my family watching this in my aunt’s basement, where moments before we were saying “could you imagine if Sid managed to pull it off”. My whole family lost our minds and we definitely hit the sauce hard that night. Few times in your life do you know you’re gonna remember something forever.
Over 22 million Canadians, 2/3rd of the whole population was watching the moment that Sidney Crosby scored the OT goal. I will never forget that day being in Vancouver. I watch that reaction compilation every year on the anniversary and I still get chills!
Adam they published some stats that showed that 80 percent of Canadians were watching this game, based off of water usage. They literally tracked how toilet flushing went off the charts between periods, across the whole nation, at the exact same time, and then down to barely anything, and then back up again after the first period, rinse and repeat. You can find it online its super cool.
The Rest Of Canada.. Bringing everyone down together. It was like the World Cup. The energy, the fans. The Passion. There was so much to this. The burning fire and RAGE THAT BURNED THROUGHOUT the game. This is Hockey.
That golden goal brought this country together for days we celebrated together and it was an amazing hype around the game cheerios was giving away shirts in the cereal boxes people bout a second fridge for beer it was the greatest game in modern Canadian history
That looked like Harper at the beginning The armpit goal was a Vancouver Canuck scoring on a Vancouver Canuck, the arena they are playing in is the home arena for the canucks. This was unreal
I wasnt at the game, but in a coffee shop on Robson street, with my cousin, there was about 55 Canadians and 2 Americans packed in this shop watching the final moments of the game, on one 40 inch screen, and when Sid scored... Victory was palpable in the mouths of every Canadian. A truely unforgettable moment.
Great video. And great memories as a Canadian living in NYC at that time. The Canadian Consulate had arranged with a local dive bar to show the game. So it is like 200 Canadians in 'enemy territory'. heh!. Between the third period and OT about 30 of us go out to get some air, smoke, etc. We are standing on the sidewalk. Well, Jimmy Fallon lives around the corner. He also took a break to grab some groceries. And he is wearing this NBC Olympics leather jacket with USA covered all over it. And Jimmy has to walk through a group of Canadians. He simply dropped his head (no eye contact) and got his groceries. We as polite Canadians said nothing. But in 5 minutes he had to walk back through our group. Again, we said nothing. But just until he passed the group. I yelled out to him "I love your show Kimmel." He turned with a smile and flipped me the bird, which did accordingly. /That was a great gold medal game!
I live in Vancouver, I was there. It was the best hockey game I ever saw.. Hockey in Canada is not just a game, its an institution . When Crosby scored the overtime winner was the best feeling anyone can imagine. We partied for a month actually..
