Every movie studio has CANCELLED projects, and today I wanted to touch on a new studio that we won’t hear from again.. Blue Sky Studios! And since they closed down, there was some collateral damage. So let me take you along the story and timeline of the unrealised final movie, the tragically long-developed and potential inspiration story of Nimona. Especially at a time like this, have some representation of this scale could have massively influences the kids of today who really need a movie like this. I think of all the stuff we’ve covered on this CANCELLED series, this one is the biggest loss so far…

I was always holding out hope it would come back. I hope they hire some of the old crew back or at least they continue off the original 70% completed work and they don't start from scratch. This is amazing, I'm so happy all there hard work will finally get the payoff it deserves.

It’s most likely because remaking and rebooting old, already popular movies is sure to make lots of money, while making a whole new concept for a movie is risky.

I read Nimona back in middle school and was super obsessed with it.. It’s super sad knowing that it could have been turned into a movie but it’s even worse that Blue Skies was eliminated as a studio entirely.

I have a feeling that the studio who made 'Ron's gone wrong' is the Blue Sky successor since they're working on the Disney+ Buck movie (which looks like it should be a tv series because it doesn't have the original cast and looks cheap). Prehaps they'll get their hands on it.

Ron's gone wrong is actually made by a new studio called locksmith and it's the only film that's part of the locksmith Studio that's going to have the 20th century Studios name the rest of the movies are going to HBO Max AKA Warner Brothers

I remember reading the book a while back, and I remember loving it too! When I found out that they were making a movie about it, I was absolutely excited! But I didn't read any type of news. Now knowing it's been canceled is upsetting, to say the least. But of course there is the book we can still read, so, at least we still have the book.

Aww, I'm sad to be learning this only now, the novel was so good and a movie would've been just the right length for it. Shame they went ahead with more mediocre fare instead of doing more on Nimona. Really hope someone else can pick up the project pieces some day.

at the beginning of 2021 I saw the graphic novel of Nimona in my school library. it was really old, and falling apart. I took it out, read it, and loved it. when I brought it back the librarian she casually mentioned that she would probably throw it out. I asked if I could keep it. She said yes and It is safely on my shelf to this day.

Even before Spies in Disguise released, the writing was already on the wall for Blue Sky, from its trailer to its release, there were absolutely no announcements of what would come after Nimona, not even an "Unnamed Project TBA" to put in their wikipedia page.

@@leonishikino6873 1. I did not know about any of that. 2. Looking up context, what i found was that Noelle made a joke that could be tied to slavery. They made drawings of "bow's siblings" with one being a farmer named Sow. But from the context, they were just rhyming and didn't even realise it was racism in the first place. They also made a huge twitter post apologizing and promising things like making the work place better for people of color and even donating

I have a feeling/theory that Disney is secretly continuing Nimona instead of Blue Sky, after cancelling it for a good couple of months after Blue Sky had shutdown. So, maybe they're silent about the project to hype people who all hope the movie would be tried again, but by a bigger studio like Disney or 20th Century Fox (which is also owned by Disney), you know, a studio slightly the same as Blue Sky but better. I think the movie, if Disney doesn't cancel it again, will release in May of 2023 or 2024

Most likely be rewritten to the point of unfamiliarity and use the current generic CG style they use now a days instead of using the work that Blue Sky already did.

@@mistermann4163 Yeah, so here's what I think will happen based on what you said: Kind of the same animation, a new cast/a slight change in cast (I'd like to see Stone Cold Steve Austin play a character, or make a cameo as a background character he plays), might at least try to do the same story but with minor changes (still a LGBTQ story, with "I love you's" be exchanged), and maybe when it does come out in '23 or '24, a release date in May, will OFFICALLY be teased!

Tbh I doubt it especially with their on and off relationship with lgbt/inclusive themes, same with netflix. Especially TOH creator, Dana Terrace had expressed herself dealing with Disney since she had to fight Luz and Amity being together.

I am so sad that to see BlueSky go. Their movies growing up were some of my favorites, Rio being one of the best ones i look back on. Ferdinand, Horton, The Peanuts, and Ice age also being big parts in my life. I would still love to see Nimona, and i am hoping something will happen with the movie one day. Untill then i am going to spend my time reading that web comic. :)

I don't like that it's being called the LGBTQ movie by anyone. That's not the point of the book. It's not some stupid token meant to get money from the LGBTQ community. It's one of the greatest stories I've ever read! This is Nimona. It should be known for Nimona and how amazing her story is, despite there being other great stories involved, she is the focus and I love her character

this is such a blow for lgbtq+ representation on the big screen. The fact another studio that didn't have to follow the Disney rule book ended up being another cog in the machine is such a bleak future for western animation. With less independent animation studios and Disney buying everything, it's stifling western animation's experimentation in visuals and story telling.

coming back to this after having watched the movie it is INCREDIBLE and i am so glad netflix pulled through, i think my favorite part was how there were more obvious queer characters, and a gay relationship that had realistic amounts of friction given the circumstances, but also had multiple allegories that i thought were incredible (namely nimona's experiences being almost identical to my own, as someone genderfluid, especially with the lines "and now you're a boy?" "i am today")

Reminder that Nimona’s creator, Noelle Stevenson told a bad joke on a stream, got a lot of unnecessary flack for it and not only did she actually apologize for it like she was the problem, she angrily told the people who tried to DEFEND her to “check their privilege.” Edit: I’d like to take this all back because I found two people WORSE than Noelle Stevenson, and their names are Julia Vickerman and Thomas Astruc.
