This is a promotional film for Capitol Records from 1951, starring Mel Blanc (the voice behind many Warner Bros and Hanna Barbera cartoon characters) and Billy May. The film shows the process of how a record is made, and shows Capitol Records headquarters before the Capitol Records Tower opened. It also has appearances from many other stars, including Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis.

33:50. That’s my beautiful mom. I grew up hearing stories about the filming of this video. This segment was filmed at the Los Angeles plant on San Fernando Rd. Thank you for posting. Love seeing how beautiful she was.

When I think of Capitol Records, I think of Nat King Cole. That was my mom's favorite singer. But I loved it when they went Disco in the 70's with acts like Tavares, A Taste Of Honey and others. But in the 80's they had Duran Duran, Thomas Dolby, Heart, Freddie Jackson, and others too.

In case you're wondering, All those records that inside the Capitol Records boxes labeled #1451 (@ 33:10) is Les Paul & Mary Ford - "How High Is The Moon" b/w "Walkin' And Whistin' Blues" -1951. Amazing promo film with the late great Mel Blanc. Thanks for sharing.

I met him in cincinnati ohio, he was giving a speech at "U.C" college. he told me that the 6 minute cartoons took 6 to 8 months to make and cost 50,000 dollars(back in the 40s/50s) and" technicolor" charged 10,000 dollars/ cartoon. the audio track was done first and then the animators did their thing (frame by frame) oh by the way "MEL" hated carrots!!!!!! also "BEA BENADERET" did the female voicing in the cartoons!!!

Eh, what's up Doc? Mel had the right voice for Bugs or other characters, but for this? The Bozo record player and MG add to the flavor. At least the part about how a record was made was interesting with a typical narrator voice. More people may be seeing this on RU-vid than ever saw it when it was new. Thanks for the upload.

@ApartmentKing66
@ApartmentKing66 5 лет назад
*KHJ* studios. They were on Melrose from about 1938 when NBC moved out to about 1948 when they moved to Vine and Fountain. While KHJ AM & FM were on Vine, Capitol Rekkids rented/leased the space and recorded Sinatra among many others there. Then, after 1956, the Vine facility was sold due to, IIRC, infighting among either the Lee family or RKO senior management (can't remember which), and KHJ was moved *back* to 5515 Melrose.

27:15 They show a 45 rpm, but didn't speak about pure vinyl, only the vinyl shellac mixture. On RU-vid there's a video, where a shellac record wear will be tested on an acoustic wind up gramophone. But this was done with a 1950's record made from the shellac plastic as used in the acoustic records' age and it was played multiple times and didn't show a different sound than the first playing with lightweight pickup.
