they go round in circles with loving and cherishing, apologising, and then berating and arguing and insulting! so entertaining for some reason! i love me my mamas' family! watched it for years, they're brilliant comedians and all the characters are so distinctive
"In a minute, in a minute, that's your middle name, Eunice!" I've quoted that line a million times after somebody told me to 'wait a minute', but I had forgotten which episode it came from. This has been one of my favorites since I watched it air originally nearly 50 years ago. My Mother took me to Atlanta Stadium when I was 10 to see Carol and her friends before the first episode aired. I have been in love with her ever since. And the part when she is pleading after Mama knocks over the lamp... pure gold! There will never be another like Carol Burnett OR her show.
"Does thos mean "Bowling for Dollars"is knocked outta the box!!?" So damn good!! Comfort food for us 'ol guys! Lol!! My ABSOLUTE FAVORITES are when they clean out the attic with ellen..gone with the wind...the little foxes..tim conways "elerphant" story (outtake)...parent teacher conference with Maggie Smith...mamma's birthday with ellen... soooo many more! LOVE ya Carol!! If it hadn't been for this Covid crap I would've seen you live at the Riverside Theatre in Milwaukee...
I'm currently reading Carol Burnett's latest book. She said that these were her favorite sketches. She also said that there were a lot of comedy moments in them, but ultimately these were very sad people.
very sad. Eunice is always day dreaming of a better life, Thelma is always pitting her kids against each other, nagging and wallowing in self-pity. Ed hates Eunice and Thelma.
Carol Burnett said, at the time her Carol Burnett Variety Show was on the air, that they received letters from viewers telling the folks at the Carol Burnett Show that they knew people who were just like people (Ed, Eunice, Mama) in the Family skits. Life imitates Art. I've watched them over, and over; they are priceless, and always give a good laugh!
That is a great dose of my medicine. Thank you so much for posting this. I really needed that laugh due to all of this shit going on in this crazy ass world today.
Thank the Force [and MegaMike!], I FINALLY found this classic I've been quoting from, especially the "4th beer today!", for YEARS! Should've looked sooner but better later than never!
🤷♀️ Mama @11:10 ... “That is your _fourth_ beer 🍺 *today!”* ... 🙆🏼♀️Eunice “And let me tell you somethin’, i needed *_every ONE of THEM!!_* 🤦🏼♀️ Talk about turning a tragic childhood into *hilarity!* 🤣💦🤧 Carol was the👸🏼 *_QUEEN!!_* 😉🙆🏼♀️😘💋
The strange or even sad thing is, every family has a Eunice or a mama in it? and if you're saying not in my family, one of them is probably YOU?!?!? Lol... It's much funnier to watch them rather than having to live with them!.
Mama is always crabby as it is, but add in when someone is "sick" or recovering from something, and we all know how bitchful they can be. This is a great example of that LOL. So funny.
Too close to home is right! Momma reminds me of my mother. On a good day she was "Mom" On a trying day she was "That Woman!" On an especially bad day she was "That *itch!" LOL 😂😂😂 It's easy to laugh about it now, but some days.... 😲😤😠😉
@tony gather Mama is definitely HATEFUL in The Family skits. She becomes nicer during Mama's Family, especially during the second life with Bubba and Iola.
This show is so hilarious but I can't watch it back to back like other comedies b/c I can only take one or two episodes a week of all that yelling and screaming, gawd! ..how did the actors take it all the time?? Sometimes it reminds me of my family growing up and then I'm like " aaaaaaa! Calgon, take me away!!!" :D :D (lol!)
I love this Carol brunett show, where mama ends up in a wheel chair, I have to watch it everyday ! Tim Conway & harvey korman were great actors , may they both rest in peace !
Raytown, Missouri is what it is based off of. But the state in the series is never reveled based on a article I read on a Kansas City news station (plus I have never heard midwestern accents from the Missouri/Kansas area). According to the article, the real Raytown, MO mayor presented a "proclamation" declaring July 19 "Mama's Family Day" while Vicki Lawrence was in Kansas City visiting.
And to think Bubba appeared in the spin off series "Mama's Family". A crazy mom like Eunice and dad that ran off and oblivious to his sons needs, no wonder Bubba ran away from home. I remember a line from the "Eunice" movie where mama said if Eunice had let her talk to him, she would have found out where the boy was. Obviously he finally showed up at Grandma Harper's house and she straightened him out some. Of course she had the headache of her son Vinton and his wife Naomi living in the basement then.
ricky parker yup. If I had been smart I would've video taped our fights. They would've been so funny to other people. They were insane. I wrecked my voice screaming for my rights.
@@matteusconnollius1203 story of my life. My mom never appreciated me either. Always favored my sister. Yet unlike ellen my sister is not wealthier or more attractive than me so go figure
My sister Renee acts just like Eunice, especially when she is in the room screaming about the cobweb and then comes out and screams "you can stare at those 4 walls all day for all I care!". LMAO!!! And then Mama's comment "your Aunt Fern took one look at you in the cradle and said 'boy, this one's gonna cause you nothing but grief" and boy howdy, she was right!.
She has worn a black dress in a funeral skit where they got back from Aunt Mae's funeral. I think she's also worn other dresses that look similar to her trademark one.
