My cousin loved the Carpenters. He died of a brain tumour a few years ago, and the whole church sang this song at his funeral.

As a child of the 1970s, I remember when the Carpenters' Music was first released. Lots of great music from that decade.

Karen was able to hit low tones and hold them distinctive from other females. Voice clarity and breath control further elevated her singing. Finally her ability to personalize the emotions needed for each note made her unique style attractive and mesmerizing

You two made me cry when you were talking about life and what we all go through. It has been a really bad few years for me, and I sometimes feel I won't come out on top, but it helps to hear these deep thoughts. You two are just AMAZING. GOD BLESS YOU FOR THESE WORDS...YOU GAVE ME COURAGE. I too suffered from Anorexia, and it is so PAINFUL, so HEART-WRENCHING!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

Another of my favorite Carpenters songs that got me thru high school and college in the '70s and '80s. This was supposed to be a simple album track that took on a life of its own and went all the way to #1 on the charts.

I think the Carpenter's were seriously under-appreciated in their time. If I recall, after their initial success their easy listening style became a bit of a joke, which really buried Karen's magnificent voice, which we now all acknowledge is one of the best voices in Pop history. In this video, she looks like she is in the beginning of her battle with anorexia. She looks thin here, but in a few years she was shockingly thin. It didn't help that one of her best friends was Olivia Newton-John, and I saw a documentary where someone was talking about how she would compare herself to Olivia, who has always been very slender, and that she wanted to be "skinny" like Livvy. I know the source of her anorexia ran deep, but these were the kind of outside pressures that were plaguing her, as well.

It is very strange that the Carpenters were popular but not very hip.

Losing Karen nearly broke Richard. He and their parents begged Karen to get help for her anorexia. And she did several times but she kept going back to it. It broke my heart to see her on TV or see pictures of her, and it would be evident that she was back on that merry go round.

It's something different and unique? Well maybe to YOUR generation! This was the standard of music at the time. Karen Carpenter was very talented; but most musicians/singers of the time were talented. And give credit to Karen Carpenter's brother Richard also. He was extremely talented and played the piano as good as any concert pianist.
