Lee Strobel: such a skeptic and unbiased journalist that he only interviewed evangelical Christian apologists and not a single non-Christian scientist, skeptic, historian, etc. on his unbiased search for the truth behind Christianity and then invented a story around that search even though we know the dates of the interviews are incorrectly portrayed. This is quintessential apologetics: present fallacies, lies, subjective interpretations, build emotional stories around them, and present them to people looking for any excuse to believe.
@BiblicalBookworm
@BiblicalBookworm Год назад
I would never trust any source regardless of how unbiased it appears to be. This book tries to make the best case in favor of Christianity. The logical and abvious next step for any sceptic is to make their own research about possible counter arguments. As such the book is a valuable source.
@MrMattSax
@MrMattSax Год назад
@@BiblicalBookworm if the book’s position was just “here are the standard apologetics” that would be fine. But wrapping it in a deceptive story about an atheist journalist looking for the truth and being persuaded by the evidence is manipulative and dishonest. If he were truly unbiased in his search for the truth he would have presented both sides and interviewed people of different views. That is journalism. That is skepticism.
@MrMattSax
@MrMattSax Год назад
@@BiblicalBookworm also, bear in mind the whole framing of the book is a "case" and it's almost made to seem as if it's a court case. Can you imagine a court where only one side was allowed to present their evidence? The framing is dishonest. If you want to look the other way and say "this is a valuable pop-apologetics book and nothing more" that's fine, but it just highlights what seems to be consistently the case: apologetics relies on dishonesty, fallacy, and manipulation.

Try reading an actual scholar instead of an apologist like Strobel. The Case for Christ is laughably bad. No one should take this man seriously.

The fact that it's an apologetic books discredits it for me. Something true doesn't need apologetics, it stands on it own, its facts, its evidence, its proof.
@BiblicalBookworm
@BiblicalBookworm Год назад
I disagree. Only recently I realized that it's important to speak the truth AND to make it appear as the truth or to act with integrity and make it look like you're acting with integrity. Imagine that you're at the doctor's office and you need a sick note because you're actually sick. You tell him that you're sick but because you want to be the sunshine in people's lives you smile the entire time and maybe make some joke during that visit. Even though you're saying the truth, the doctor might have a hard time believing you.
@jerrylanglois7892
@jerrylanglois7892 Год назад
@@BiblicalBookworm If a doctor examines a patient and the examination, ( the EVIDENCE ) shows that patient is sick, that patient is sick, no matter any '' appearance, joke, acting, belief, opinion '' to the contrary. That's the biggest problem with christianity, it has no EVIDENCE. Every word about jesus is nothing more than HEARSAY which is not evidence. We don't allow hearsay as evidence in our courts of law so why should it be any different for christianity ?

Strobel was not an atheist when he started out, he just claims he was because it helps his case a lot. 12 out of the 14 people he interviews are committed Christians. But Christians certainly bought his tricks, as well as the book, making him a whole lot richer. Well played.

Regarding the fact that 12/14 of the interviewed experts were Christians: I think he explains it in the book that the reason why most experts were Christians is that everyone who dug deep enough into Christianity became a Christian as a result of his/her research
@JM-ot8ux
@JM-ot8ux Год назад
@@BiblicalBookworm That's a completely ridiculous assertion. It's more likely that a close and intense reading of the Bible leads to atheism. There are FAR more atheists who were former Christians than there are Christians who were former atheists. (Of course, as Matt Dillahunty quipped, the best way to make money is to be a _former_ atheist. Christians would want to hear from a "former atheist." It's a great selling point. ) Christians! It's only a question of whether they are more ignorant than dishonest, or the other way around. You ALL lie.
@gdevelek
@gdevelek Год назад
@@BiblicalBookworm ...which is even stronger proof that he was very much a committed christian when he started writing the book. This argument is laughable. It can only work in front of a christian audience, to make them feel warm and fuzzy inside. He obviously doesn't want to even think about the Clergy Project.... Let alone write anything about it....
@JM-ot8ux

Thank you for an interesting book summary +review. The fact that Mr. Strobel was an atheist journalist, I think gives him a lot of credibility. I appreciate when he mentioned the Gospel accounts were authoritative before they were chosen. Great point! Totally appropriate for Divine Mercy Sunday, is his statement about Jesus Christ’ most divine act wasn’t performing miracles but that he forgave sins. Wow! I thought I did see some bright light flashes when you were speaking and then I thought, oh yeah, the light problem.🤭 Thank you for another great video! Alleluia!!

I enjoy Lee Strobel's books I have read several of them now and like his writing style. He writes as a journalist interviewing a different person on the subject he is covering for each chapter. I discovered his books in a funny way. Once a month I go to a diner to eat dinner and at the cash register they sell paperback copies of his latest book. One night I was waiting on line to pay the check and picked up his book and examined it. I bought it and now every time I see a new title, at the restaurant I buy it too.
