Waking dream: open my eyes to see an Aye-Aye perched on my chest, listening intently as his loooooong creepy finger is TAP-TAP-TAPPING on my skull. THANKS, Nature League!
When I was a kid, I had a book (I think about animals) that had an aye-aye on the cover. So the aye-aye has always been my go-to when somebody asked me to name an animal.
As an octopus I was disappointed that we weren't mentioned in reference to species who are interesting and awesome but frequently missing from top ten lists. I do appreciate highlighting other similarly over looked species. And of course the disclaimer, too many channels assume their viewers are all vertebrates. Thank you.
I can imagine the first western sailors to Madagascar... Captain: Jim, please tell me what is that? Jim: Aye-Aye Captain. Captain: Well? I'm waiting. Jim, pointing: Aye.. Aye. Captain: Yes, its two eyes are freaking me out. Now tell me what it is or you're walking the plank! Jim, scared: But, but... Aye-Aye... Captain: Stop stammering!
When I grew up in Japan, we all sang a song of Aye-Aye from the very popular kids TV show. It went like "Aye-Aye, Aye-Aye, they are monkeys, Aye-Aye, Aye-Aye from the southern island" It was a very cute & catchy song, and I truly believed Aye-Aye was a very cute animal. Years later, when I grew up, I saw a pic of Aye-Aye for the first time, and of course my reaction was like WFIT??? However, still each time I read or hear this name, that cute song is echoing in my head.
I’ve alwahs loved pigs! In fact I have a pet pig. And no not the tiny perfectly pink ones, they all deserve love! I think tapirs and the Babirusa are especially cool even if people don’t always think they look the best
Aye-ayes are one of my favorite animals. In general, I've noticed that I tend to gravitate towards animals that are oddities or that are considered basal to their other relatives. It's probably because that's where the most bizarre traits develop or are retained, and I love weird and unique adaptations!
I was actually waiting for one of your coworkers to accuse you of trying to curse them lol. I'm surprised more people don't know what they are, Aye-Ayes are so cool.
Wow, is that Joseph Tuna?! I've seen his name in SciShow credits for years, and I've always been so curious about the guy nicknamed "tuna." He's a cute thicc boi! Also, uhg, it's so hard to pick a favorite animal, but one species I really love that many people don't seem to know about is the pine marten. My favorite thing about them is how they're so gosh darn cuddly and cute, but really ferocious predators. Also, they're noodles. Gotta love all noodle-like animals.
If you want to support aye-ayes and lemurs in general, look into the Duke Lemur Center, a facility at Duke University. They study captive lemurs -- and many of them are kept in multi-acre forested enclosures. They also support conservation of lemurs and habitat in Madagascar, by working with local people and local governments. At Duke, they have various tours: I went on the in-the-enclosure tour, and had lemurs walking freely just a few feet from me, while with a docent who explained lots and answered my questions -- it was one of the most magical experiences I've ever had.
The chicken definitely came first. -offspring are genetically different than their parents -so, the first chicken hatched out of its non-chicken parents egg The aye-aye is kind of a mothman. The mothman is a harbinger/omen and people think they are also omens. Plus, the mothman is really just owls
I love crocs and alligators. Ever since I was a child I used to watch dr. Brady Bar on National Geographic and was waiting for the next episode impatiently. Thanks to that show I also learned to love snakes and got to touch a boa snake in a random lucky event. I wish I could touch a croc or a gator. Also obsessed with dinos.
I love the Aye-Aye, I learned about them from the documentory series "Last chance to see" with Stephen Fry, together with the Kakapoe, who is also very adorable. And as to what strange species I love, it's the Narwhal
tbh my favorite kind of animals are any that look nice to touch, either fluffy or smooth. But I also LOVE cool animals like the aye-aye! any specialized animal is just the best!
I don't have twitter, so I can't @ you, but it's 100% neither. The egg, assuming we aren't talking about general eggs, must be an egg either containing a chicken or that was laid by a chicken. Because of that, and people likely not settling on one over the other, it's best to say that neither came first, and instead came about simultaneously. Sorry if this take was too hot for you, Brit!
I love the Aye-Aye, personally.. It's one of the critters I haven't seen with my own eyes yet. #1 on my bucket list, for sure. Oh and for my pick for future episodes? The Colugo.
I'va always love aye ayes XD We used to have some at the zoo where I work. My favorite animal is the clouded leopard. But I've never seen one outside of TV.
My favorite is snakes! I used to have a pet ball python but had to re home her when I had to move back home for health reasons. My mom hates snakes & is always killing the baby garter snakes that come up from the drain in the basement with her kane :(
I didn't learn anything new (except how to pronounce the species name in English, I am not a native speaker) but as a zoologist, I guess it means I had great teachers. I love all types of herps and did my masters thesis on great crested newt so this is for sure one of my favourite animals. But in general, I too, have a soft spot for unusual animals, from mammals I love for example takin, colugo, hyrax, also I am fascinated by venomous mammals like solenodons or the platypus...
Stoats. Those cute little energetic hunters check many of your boxes. I would think people might like them more (along with others from the Mustelids) given their preference for small rodents, but they get little attention it seems.
The Aye Aye is just nightmare fuel. Even paranormal creatures would be freaked out by this thing. If you think about it though, this animals confidence level must be off the scale. Seriously, this thing evolved to be one of the creepiest things on earth (next to my ex-wife), it doesn't care what anyone else thinks of its appearance. Most animals go for beauty, this thing chose nightmare fuel, how many other animals would do that. (I don't count the things that live deep down in the ocean where there's no light, ever, I just count the things you can see in the daylight).
I prefer striped possums over aye-ayes, they have similar adaptions and lifestyle but marsupials win me over any day. also man its hard to pick favorites, but some in my top spots are bobtail squid, saltwater crocodiles, bonnethead sharks and quokkas.
Just one look at my Avatar and you can tell I love Aye Ayes. Maurice from the Madagascar series of movies and shows is an Aye Aye. And Who doesn't love Maurice. I would never take an Aye Aye from the wild. But if they ever invent android pets and I can afford it I'm getting an Aye Aye.
One species I am actually somewhat fond of which not many people are is well... Humans. Obviously not all humans, but some in particular I am fond of. Especially the sub-adults.
Whilst I am a chicken first guy, I can see that eggs first can make sense too..... I mean, the very ancestor of them bird/dinosaurs must be something much more ancient and less bird/dinosaur-like right? The theory goes that the very first life on earth was possibly very amoeba-like, so we can start from there
@@ModernQuixote I'm saying that based on educated guesses/theories regarding the ancestors of them chickens, the earliest(the very first life) are presumed to have the appearance akin to amoebas. How they branched out to expanded speciation until its various forms of current progeny is up to our own discretion on how the past is interpreted based on the present. Also, no, I don't think amoebas are chickens or vice versa. I'd elaborate more but no thanks.
my favorite animals are mustelids! also, bearcats. bees are indeed awesome! did anyone knew it was an aye aye? oops, question answered. i wonder about the origin of the name aye aye.
I feel like I learned more from the True Facts about the Aye Aye, but that's probably because it was so funny I watched it several times as I introduced my friends and family to the wonder that is Ze Frank. Here it is if you're wondering: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jHs5POy8-8Y.html
I'm not entirely certain that I know what you're talking about here, but quick heads up that "slight" means to insult by failing to pay proper respect or acknowledgement, as in when a lower-ranking soldier fails to salute an officer, and I'm fairly certain that's not what you meant, unless you're upset that she didn't credit Christianity for how awesomely cute Aye-Ayes are.
I'm sorry you felt like Christianity was involved- I was actually just sharing a historical quote that references "God", and the concept of intelligent design, both of which are involved in many religions of the world. The overall point was not about religion, but about aye-ayes- they are so incredibly fit to their unique environment that scientists at the time thought there was no way it could be anything other than a purposeful God designing species. I included this historical fact in the script because it's both fascinating and does a great job of detailing just how adapted aye-ayes are to their environment. Our entire team constantly works to ensure that no one feels left out in the conversation about life on Earth- I'm sorry you felt that this was in some way personal, or about Christianity, and I'll try to make that distinction more clear in the future. Thank you for being a part of the conversation and watching the content we work hard to produce. -Brit
