DZP Presents: Edgar Allan Poe's The Cask of Amontillado. Narrated by Z Hunter, original music score by Rob Hermann, Animated by CJ Hutchinson. written by Edgar Allan Poe Produced by Das Zombie Productions deaddenizens@hotmail.ca
We learned about the life and stories of Edgar Allen Poe in my 7th grade Language Arts class. We watched this video when reading The Cask of The Amontillado.
I really love your gray-scale backgrounds of the catacombs. It's nice to see some attention payed to this as I feel the whole environment involved in the story is the best part and you can't really get a good grasp of the creepyness of it from the written word.
Don't take my crown Or bring me down that's funny as hell... We generally make less mainstream stuff that will never be played in the classroom. If you like Poe I also made a cartoon of the poem Annabelle lee
In my 12th grade World Literature class we are evaluating adaptations of Poe's story. I am serving as scribe. Here are some comments from the class: "The narration, especially when Fortunato entered, didn't distinguish enough the separate voices." "The movement in the video is distracting. It is spazzy." "The scenes are too long. When is this party going to end." "The darkness loses out to some of the silliness in the narration." We appreciate the detail in the masks, and the symbolism inherent. Thanks!
Thanks for the feedback, it is my first cartoon and hopefully as we journey on with our animation production we get better at it... lucky you guys when I went to school the only visual stuff we were allowed to see were old schoolboard approved films and they were usually shitty not due to content but poor quality of projectors and old prints (and sometimes because of content as well lol)... wish we had youtube back in my day
This is admirable in many ways, but I'm sorry to say that the narration (in my opinion) lacks subtlety. (Compare the versions by Vincent Price or Basil Rathbone.) Granted, that Poe was an American, it still grates with me to hear such pronunciations as 'con-o-sewer.' Thanks for taking the trouble to upload this.
Maybe its because everyone involved is Canadian eh, LOL thanks for the feedback and please feel free to subscribe, this is our first attempt at animation and we are going to keep going with it... I love the Vincent price version by the way
Canadian? - Same difference! Had you thought of doing any of the M. R. James stories? 'The Mezzotint,' 'Lost Hearts,' and 'Oh Whistle and I'll Come to You,' for instance. (No-one has yet managed the last one, as it was originally written. The 2 common versions both try to 'improve' the story, with predictable results.)
