The cast of Glee pays tribute to Naya Rivera & Santana Lopez at the 32nd Annual GLAAD Media Awards

The cast of Glee reunites during the virtual ceremony for the 32nd Annual GLAAD Media Awards for a special tribute to the legacy of the late Naya Rivera’s character Santana Lopez. The tribute honors the ten-year anniversary of Santana’s coming out on the GLAAD Media Award-winning series and spotlights the character’s impact on LGBTQ teens and Latinx LGBTQ representation on television.
Global superstar Demi Lovato, who played Santana’s girlfriend on Glee, introduced the special tribute, featuring Glee cast members Jacob Artist, Chris Colfer, Darren Criss, Jessalyn Gilsig, Dot-Marie Jones, Vanessa Lengies, Jane Lynch, Kevin McHale, Heather Morris, Matthew Morrison, Alex Newell, Lauren Potter, Amber Riley, Harry Shum Jr., Becca Tobin, and Jenna Ushkowitz.
The 32nd Annual GLAAD Media Awards honor media for fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of LGBTQ people and issues. Since its inception in 1990, the GLAAD Media Awards have grown to be the most visible annual LGBTQ awards show in the world, sending powerful messages of acceptance to audiences globally. The 32nd Annual GLAAD Media Awards are presented by Gilead, Hyundai, and Ketel One Family Made Vodka.

Diana Sophie Conti she was intentionally a misrepresentation! If you noticed in her first episode she comments on how she is “self diagnosed” Aspergers, and then proceeds to use it as an excuse to say whatever she wants. It’s a parody on people who suck and use things like Aspergers to excuse their behaviour when that’s not what it is at all.

I had a VERY small part in Glee in the Ep: The Sue Sylvester Shuffle & I can attest to Naya's kindness, professionalism & talent. As a fellow Latinx artist, I was most excited & nervous to meet her because she was my favorite character on the show. She had a huge performance in that ep with "Heads Will Roll" & it was a privilege to see her perform it live over & over. It's a memory I will cherish & never forget. I ran into her a few years later & she remembered me. She was so humble. The mark she left in the industry is monumental and will last forever.

My heart goes out to her son the most. The trauma he must have gone through suddenly not knowing where his mama was and to be completely confused and have to understand what happened over the course of weeks/months. Kids losing parents is heart-wrenching.

I was 16 when Glee first aired and I had such a crush on Cory, but I remember seeing Naya and feeling so confused, having no idea bisexuality was a thing. Naya was the reason I questioned my sexuality. I hid it for so many years, terrified of what people would think. Glee changed my life and I'm now an out and proud bi woman and I have an Angel to thank.

Naya was also the reason I questioned mine. I looked up to her as a character, saw her as such an inspiration. I think she touched a lot of us and really gave us all assurance that to be ourselves was completely okay.

When I first clicked on the video, I thought they were going to sing a song in honour of Naya and I thought that would have been a great tribute. I was not expecting to get this emotional just hearing them talk about their friend, Naya Rivera, and the incredible impact she's had on their lives and the world. I saw Santana Lopez come out when I was 11 years old, I myself am mexican and a closeted lesbian at the time. I was so terrified of telling my parents and I've never seen a lesbian latina on TV, I will forever be grateful for what Naya portrayed, not only did she give me strength to come out, she also gave me hope that eventually things could get better. Currently, at 21, I can proudly say that things got so much better. I don't know where I'd be without the representation she gave, I hope you're resting in peace Naya

Agreed! I was crying for days and so worried when they were trying to find her. Cory/Finn's Quarterback episode was so sad, and in real life Naya's was really hard. I was crying for a few days. That plus the crazy restrictions happening around the world that had started was a lot.

For a son to lose his mom at such a young age to me is just absolutely heartbreaking. When i found out that she passed and left a very young son behind, I broke down in tears because not only because Naya played one of my favorite characters. But because she passed away in a similar fashion just like my mom did. My mom may not have drowned. But she passed away back in 2004 from HIV when I was 5. I hope that little boy makes something of his life and make his momma proud.

this show and specifically Santanas character and Brittany and Santana's relationship is the reason I started questioning my sexuality. I never considered being gay until I watched Glee. I am so so so grateful for Naya because I am now out and proud. I love being gay and it is a big part of who I am. She means so much to mean and I'm so sad she passed. she will be missed.

They don't know how much influence Santana had on many Lesbian and Latina girls. I was one of them. Naya played a super important role, she gave visibility to 2 types of minorities in just 1. And she did very well. Thank you for being a part of my adolescence.

This could be the first celebrity death that was so hard for me to take in. I've always wished the best for Naya. I remember how I'd always fancast her in show forums because I was just in awe of her beauty and personality. I was so mad when she got demoted to being recurring cast in Glee and got a very short part in their I Lived performance. Almost all of my most favorite Glee covers were sung by her.

we loved Naya and her passing has deeply affected all of us, even those who didn’t know her personally. She was such an amazing and strong Latina role model and her character Santana made it possible for so many young girls to be themselves. This was such a heartwarming but at the same time emotional moment to watch as a gleek I’m so glad the cast have reunited but I know this was not the reunion they were hoping for before the events of 2020 but yeh However I’m just happy we got it even if not all cast members were part of it.. to Naya and Cory, we forever love you and we all miss you. You are both never forgotten. Rest in peace Glee 4Ever! 🕊💙

She had ‘presence’ . Wasn’t just physical beauty (she was stunningly beautiful), one could be listening to the dialogue without looking at the screen and just have to stop and listen. Her lines just ‘landed’.

Finished listening to the Naya Rivera audiobook last week and felt so empty because those would be the last words many of us fans would hear from her. However, her legacy certainly lives on through her family, friends, and all the fans she’s touched through her monumental work on Glee and beyond. Queer Brown girls and allies unite!

Glee was truly something special, it wasn’t just another tv show....I know it definitely changed my life and made me accept who I am today. Santana was a very important character to me and Naya was simply one amazing human being 💖💖💖
