my husband just said "Imagine being a cat and being picked up by Jackson Galaxy, THE cat daddy". Tonight we are intending to capture a stray and help him out, a perfect video to accompany this evening 🥰
I live about 30 miles from Birmingham, and as I was watching this video, o heard a cat screeching on my front porch. I opened the door and found a feral cat I’d been working with with her FIVE newborn (still damp) kittens. I cautiously opened the door, mom picks up a kitten, and runs into my house. So I guess she’s not feral anymore, and I now have 6 cats.
The distribution system strikes again! But seriously, that's so lovely. Personal dream of mine to just have a mama show up one day to my door with lil scrungly kitties
@@luvlyren2250 unfortunately we lost two kittens, but mom and the remaining three kittens are doing great! All four are loved and spoiled. Since I have plenty of room, all four are now full time house cats that enjoy chasing the mice out of my greenhouse. There’s also a new feral cat (male) hanging around that looks suspiciously like two of the kittens, so we’ll see what happens there. He and the mom love to meow to each other through the window, so I may end up with another cat (after he’s neutered of course!) I’m getting ready to move, so I don’t want to leave him behind, so even if he doesn’t come with me, I want him cared for before I leave.
I’m so happy Gerald is ok but man oh man he had a collar and I’m so sad for the person who lost their precious kitty 😢 this is why you gotta microchip guys 😭😭
@@MaggieBer I mean, at the same time, wouldn't you be hanging up missing posters and calling or going to every single shelter and animal control place within a 20 mile radius? If my boy got loose (he's an escape artist we do our best but every once in a blue moon he gets an outside day, hence him being spayed, chipped and has collar tags) and didn't come back in a few hours I'd be driving all over and hanging up fliers and visiting anywhere he might be and looking into online resources and just doing literally anything I could think of to find him. I don't think the owners really tried honestly.. barring something like chronic illness that would prevent going around looking for him, they would've had him back if they'd even called shelters in the area and asked about a cat with his description. The same thing happened with my cat. I found him and the first thing we did was check for a chip and then the shelter put out a found cat thing and we wanted him after the hold so we let them know and then we went out and put up found cat posters near every shelter in the area with the info on where he was. No one ever called. It took years for a neighbor to tell us it was common to dump cats I the area and we'd just lucked out and got him before the coyotes could. I'm not saying this cat was dumped but I find it hard to belive that if they wanted to his original owners could've have found him.
@@kitcat-xn1mn Not necessarily. We had a kitten (also a 6 month old male) who ran away, and we did all those things. Missing posters, phones to shelters, knocking on neighbors' doors, etc. and got nowhere. We were sure he was gone forever, but it turned out he managed to somehow get himself to another town (we still don't know how), and thankfully was found by a lovely couple who took him to a vet, and he did have a chip, so we got him back, and he stayed with us until his senior years. It's absolutely important to chip your pets, but not having done that in time doesn't mean they didn't care or look for him.
There is no better companion to be had than a grateful shelter cat. Always adopt! Of the 11 cats I've had in life, all but 3 were shelter adoptees. (The three were strays I found.) Every single one was a dreamboat and a joy. Give a cat respect and love, and they'll be the most wonderful lifelong friends...
@badwolf7850There is supposedly some new food types that can help with cat allergies. The science-y explanation, iirc, is that there is an enzyme produced by chickens that, when mixed into cat food, can help reduce the amount of dandruff and stuff they shed by 80ish% There are some cat food formulas now that have it but ymmv as to whether or not it helps you specifically or even works. I don't have allergies so I've never had the urge to try it.
@badwolf7850 it's called Purina Pro Plan LiveClear. I've been noticing since I started feeding it to my cat that my allergies aren't as bad as when I first got her.
You're one of the top comments at the moment so I'm going to leave a tip about ID Tags vs Microchips, ID tags are great and Gerald could have been returned to their human immediately if he had one, but you can't lose a microchip like you could lose an ID tag on a collar, if not a collar entirely. Many city clinics will chip for $35 or so, which is about the cost of a collar and tag anyway. Register the microchip and bam! Proof of ownership that cannot fall off the animal
Yeah, I have mostly had cats I can't keep a collar on (and one I'm worried I need to remove because she keeps chewing on the metal tag on it...), but they're all microchipped and I keep the chips up to date (also important!)
@@nuclearalchemy9220Collars are very dangerous for cats. They can get hooked onto all sorts of snares and strangle. My sister's cat hooked her leg into the collar, couldn't move to come home. After exhaustive searching for her, she was found dead with her trapped leg in a state of gangrene. It was absolutely devasting. Never, ever put a collar on a cat. Microchipping is the way.
If your cat hates tags, you can get engraved leather collars with a phone number or a metal engraved plate! My dog hates the noise so I did this for two collars, and it has already helped recover her once when she slipped her leash.
@@Laszlo1079 How do you know they had the "chance". Suddenly everyone has endless money, doesn't need to budget when they can spend. Perhpas they meant to keep the cat indoors and save money by not chipping, and then the cat got out. Should we not allow people to have pets if they can't afford a microchip? For all we know that cat maay have got home fine after a wander around.
Sounds like me. A New Yorker afraid of dogs and cats, that was me. I relocated to Fl. Did dog rescue online. A neighbor and I did the TNR for over 10 yrs, saving many kittens, while having the mothers and dads spayed and neutered. I still feed feral cats. These cats are already fixed. I still have my trap ready when needed. Not easy because of my pain issues and limited mobility. Wish more ppl would get involved in helping reduce the cat population. ❤🐈😽🐱😸😺😻
I'm surprised he's using the big bad humane society A KILL SHELTER! WHO JUST RIPS OF DONATED MONEY. HELL they ONLY TOOK THAT CAT IN BECAUSE OF WHO HE IS 👎 if he Jackson really cared he knows better at this point and he'd of gone 4 a smaller more local rescue
My husband must have been Air Tagged by the Cat Distribution System. He's rescued so many cats over the years, they used to come for us. Wild cat got a kitten with a nasty spider bite swollen paw, take it to those people, bang on the screen door at three am. Crawl into their car engine and yell bloody murder when the sun comes up, jump on them when they're hanging up laundry in the back yard. Just go have kittens in their back yard! We're on our last rescue cat, I swear! 2 weeks old, crawling with fleas, yelled at hubby to pick him up and take him home in the parking lot at work. He's 16 now and rules the house. Kittens need not apply. The last two attempts went to the no kill shelter and were adopted (they send out a congrats note to rescuers!). We broke the system! I think. 😂 Watch one show up tomorrow at 2 am. 😑
My mom is the same. I swear some animals can just detect loving and helpful humans, and especially cats. (Also good luck, but I always find it hard to believe when someone talks about their "last rescue cat". My grandparents, both in their 80s now, told me that they would not have another cat again. twice. now they're feeding the next stray that showed up and starting to coax him inside with food. they named him Peter but already use cutesy nicknames for him. we live 7 hours away and many friends and family are passing at their age so they get lonely and while they said they didn't want new cats, when they do get another one they always talk about them and how they bring joy into the house. there's just no retiring from the cat distribution system if it doesn't want you to 😂) edit: I love that they send a congrats, that's so nice. I'd definitely be following up on all our rescues, but we've managed to adopt all of our found cats and dogs out to loving homes ourselves, no shelters involved, so they are with friends or at least friends of friends and we get updates on everyone directly.
Microchips often migrate, sometimes quite a distance. The person doing the scanning didn’t even come close to doing an adequate job, the cat’s entire body needs to be scanned.
Yyyyeahhhh... I'm hoping that a more thorough scan happened off camera, but if that was it, it's like they were trying to not find it. They didn't even touch the main implant area, for Pete's sake. That being said, on an intact 6 month old... Kinda seems unlikely that the previous owners would have microchipped him but not neutered him. So, who knows.
Yeah, a lot of people don't even realize they can get a cat chipped or that there are all kinds of online lost pet resources. I hope the shelter has the sense to check the outlying areas too, cats can get pretty far from home, especially if they get curious and climb in the mailman's van.
@@texasred2702 yep, pre-microchip and internet days (1990's) I had a cat go missing for over 2 weeks. We were extremely lucky to get him back because we had his address on his collar. He had wandered over 2 miles away and a really considerate couple brought him home to me. I will always be grateful for that.
@@giovannibermudezjr before chips and the internet, I had a cat go missing for over 2 weeks, he was eventually found and brought home from over 2 miles away. So I know that there is a chance that Gerald's original owners may have been desperately looking for him, but in all the wrong places. I was distraught beyond words when my boy was missing, and can only imagine how these other people might have been feeling.
In Australia, the RSPCA (our national animal rescue service) will not release an animal until they are microchiped and desexed. It doesn't stop people from being irresponsible owners, but it helps a lot, and most of our citizens are very grateful for the service
There's many states with laws on shelters and rescues being required to desex an animal before adopting them out... And I have never heard of one not microchiping. Even small birds can be microchipped
I work in Vet Med for Petco! Thanks for shouting out Love Lost! I really urge pet parents to use the resource. It actually does help shelters and clinics reunite your pet with you against all odds. (But there really is nothing like a microchip. Please chip your pets!!)
I have two indoor boys and living in an apartment block makes an escape that could lead to them getting lost unlikely, however nothing is impossible so both boys are microchipped.
@Pandidolod - I never heard of this service before watching this video. Thanks, Petco. Many communities also have local bulletin boards on the 'net. That is how I got Panda back when she made a break for it. Someone in the neighborhood had seen her in a field after seeing her listing on the 'net and called me. I camped out there for a few days until she showed up.
I have adopted kitties from Florida, Maine, New Jersey, North Carolina (after animals were evacuated before a hurricane), Ohio and now from Azerbaijan. She has no ears anymore, some monster brutally beat her and cut her ears to pieces. Skin cancer showed up a few months after surgery, not sure if due to being an all white kitty or from skin damage to surgery site, but then they had to remove ALL the ear flaps AND the ear canals, so she is deaf. I got her March 7 of 2024. She is the most trusting and such a love bug. It took 8 months to get her and I hope she now can have the best life ever!!! Thank you Jackson for what you do, I wish I could do more to help with TNR around the world.
@@Whitecroc, haha! Funny you said this, but I named her Owl, as her eyes are pulled back due to not enough skin to close the ear canal opening. Otter's have kind eyes, but Owl eyes are a bit fierce looking and that is what she looks like. Of course, she can't hear anything, so I guess the name is more for me.
Congratulations to everyone! I adopted my cat Jamie back in November. My mom is not a cat person, but Jamie was grown on her. My daughter does well with her ( kiddo is 2), and Jamie is patient with her and loves to play with her.
Thank you for posting this video and showing people the process of adopting from a shelter. My kitty Dallas was a similar story. I volunteered at local shelter to socialize cats with NO intention of adopting because we already had a cat. But Dallas reached through his cage and grabbed my shirt as I walked by. I took him out and the first thing he do was snuggle up to my chin. He didn’t want to play, he wanted human TLC. I socialized him for a week and then he caught the cat shelter virus.he was in sick bay and they were going to euthanize him because there was no room for him to stay in there as he was pretty sick. 😢. I took him right away, and we had him for 15 years. He was so sweet. We lost him in August 2022 and still miss him dearly.
Yes! I believe Jackson!! I lost my beautiful chow chow a few years ago, almost a year after he passed I went to the shelter to donate and while there I looked at the dogs. I physically got sick and said outloud "No , I can't get another dog right now...I'm not ready." Well the universe heard me and a few days later a mama cat had her kittens on my patio. So yesterday we celebrated Gidget and Lulu's 1st birthday. Obtw the shelter provided me with hand warmers, bottle, formula and information how to care for the kittens. I have found these 2 kit/cats have filled the piece of my heart from my chow Sugarfoot. I refer these 2 as Sugars babies.
My cat Max went missing 6 years ago. He was chipped but I had lost the paperwork to know how to find him. I went to the shelters and local vets with no answers. I started getting Facebook messages saying I have your cat. It caught me off guard and being a woman I didn't know how to find out if it was him. Finally I messaged them back and went to see if he was there with my husband. As soon as I walked into this ladies house he heard my voice from outside. He came running into the house, jumped on the back of the chair purring and nuzzleing me. Then he got on my lap and put a paw on each shoulder letting it be known that I was his. I had him for 4 more years before he died from cancer. He was 14 years old. He chose me when he was a 8 week old kitten. i now have 3 calico kittens., all sisters. they just turned 1.
That’s where hubby and I found Shadow, our lovey kitty. She was the first cat I saw when we went to the local animal shelter. She was found homeless wandering around Leisure World, a senior housing community. We took her home that day and she’s been with us since April, 2024. She sleeps with us but really she sleeps by my feet. She’s now sleeping next to me on our sofa. Shadow bonded with me from day 1. It’s like she knew it was me who picked her. She’s a gray tabby who’s 2-3 yrs old. I love her so much. And she gives back her love to me 10x’s over.
i adopted my first cat from the humane society after he was surrendered by his former family. i fostered another cat that was left on the streets by her former family, then ended up taking in a feral kitten. i couldnt have done any of it without your videos and expertise. you save cats all over the country, and probaby even the world, with your work. so thank you!!!
Feel sorry for his previous owner. Somehow he got lost and maybe ended up far away and they were waiting for him to reappear. Microchip your cats people.
I was kind of surprised to see them do all the vaccinations right away before the hold was over. If the owner came forward and it turned out he already had all his shots, would it have been OK that he had them twice? I'm glad he has a happy & safe home now. Wonder how he ended up outside where he was, but with a collar.
we just took in a stray we found in our trash. she wasn't spayed or chipped, she did her 8 days at the local rescue and I put my name down to adopt her straight after. such a loud and friendly baby and reminds me of the kitten in this video
Well wasn’t that the most warm heart felt video. Thanks for telling Gerald story. He is such a handsome boy . Gotta love when a cat finds the right human. Nothing better than the unconditional love of a fur baby. ❤😊❤
I rescued a stray cat I took care of him when he fractured his femur I had to amputate his leg he is doing well with 3 legs I love him so much ! It made me feel happy I was able to take care of him . Frisky is such a loving cat 😺
He had a collar! Maybe his guardians were on holiday or in hospital and Gerald escaped when he was being fed? I think a week is too short for guardians to come forward in certain circumstances!
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜😺 Amazing how things happen. Beautiful story, how he is exactly where he should be. And Jackson as the responsible person to this meeting...blessings to you all 🐾
Jackson seems to have a great affinity with cats. He totally understands them. We have 4 cats, ourselves and they all get a lot of attention. We recently adopted 2 of them from the RSPCA shelter (that's what they call them here in Australia). They all get along really well. I'm really glad that Gerald has a happy life with you guys.
Hi Tony. I'm from Melbourne and have 2 rescue Cats. One 2.5 male called Olly. And a 2 year old little girl called Rocket. Olly was found with a badly broken leg, but they were able to save it. We adopted him from the Lort Smith Animal Hospital in December 2022. Poor little Rocket 🚀 wasn't so lucky. She lost her rear right leg. They thought that by the nature of the injury, she may have gotten hung by something. She still chases her brother around the house, and we've trained them to walk on harnesses out in the yard. I have a 15.5 year old miniature Dachshund that I rescued way back in 2013. Everyone gets along well. Just thought I'd say hello to another Aussie. 🇦🇺❤
I have no idea why people don't get their pets chipped! Someone lost out on a very sweet little boy because they didn't spend the insignificant amount of time and money to chip him. That's how I got my boy 10 years ago!
I've just had mine chipped and from my experience they'll chip at the sametime as doing a neuter/spay. Considering Gerald wasn't neutered tells me he most likely got out and got lost.
One of my girls isn't. I got her as a kitten from some people and my vet wanted enough to chip her I could have either gotten her spayed or chipped. All my others came chipped from the shelters.
Sometimes it's an extra hundred bucks and if someone is poor they may choose not to. Since he wasn't neutered I'm guessing this was a "free kittens" situation. So it sounds like Gerald got to a better home than he left
@@RainAngel111 People seem to forget that there are people out there who may love their pets but can't afford to microchip them or spay/neuter them. Or, they are ignorant of these things and their benefits. To label pet owners who don't think and do the same as themselves doesn't help.
Ya…I was thinking the same thing. The only thing that changed about the cat was its dirty paws. He didn’t gain or lose any weight and the appearance of his coat didn’t change at all. Unless this was all staged… 🤔🤔🤔
@@jaymes3554 oh…that’s good to know 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻♥️and I completely take back my comment earlier bc I watched more of his content and now I realize he is the REAL DEAL!!
Wonderful story, I'm so happy for Gerald. Three years ago we had 2 kittens come out of the woods to the house crying so loud and scared. Now Champy and Nasha are great boy's that have added so much to our home. Three weeks ago we had another kitten come out of the woods and crying to get in the house. She's so sweet and loving I named her Precious. Just got her spayed and we're in the process of introducing her to the boys. People around my area frequently dump cats off in the forest. The one's that find their way to the house find a forever home.
Gotta love the CDS when it’s in full action!! Gerald is such a sweetie!! I love gingers (even though he’s technically a tuxedo) they’re so sweet❤❤ Congratulations to Gerald and his new family!
@@abbynormal4740 I didn’t know until recently that any domestic cat with more than 20% white mixed with any other coat color is considered a tuxedo. I always thought a tuxedo was traditionally black and white lol
My husband and I came home from the airport one morning and found this small black and white cat with the brightest longest whiskers we have ever seen. He walked up to us and was like "Hey there! I live here not, right?" We have a lot of cats in our neighborhood that walk around so we thought he belonged to someone else. Every day he would visit us and sometimes sleep around our apartment under the stairs or on our chair on our porch. Took him to the vet to see if he had a microchip which he did not. After some time he disappeared for a week or two. We thought someone must have taken him in or his owners found him. He was a super sweet cat so it made sense. Then one day after we got back from work we see him hiding next to a car tire trying to hide from a dog not on a leash. I went over and scooped him up before the dog saw him and realized he was nothing but skin and bones. He was obviously starving so we thought "if he has owners they are obviously neglecting him" so we took him in. Had to rush him to the vet due to him being extremely dehydrated. Overtime his hair grew longer and his weight got to a healthy point and oh boy did this cat grow. The vet said that he definitely has Mainecoon in him. And boy were they right. He is two years old now and we are about to reach his gotcha day. It’s been a journey suddenly taking in a cat when we never had one and at the time weren’t really cat people. But he is a delight to be around and he is becoming even more friendly and every week we see more of his personality shine. I’m so grateful that we decided to take him in when we did despite not knowing what we were doing. Everyone we talked to about taking him in said that we did the right thing. I’m just glad that we were there when he needed us most. Btw his name is Oreo and he is a total goofball and we love him so so much.❤❤
All's well that ends well but I feel bad for his original owners. It took 2 weeks for me to track down my kitty. I had given up hope, assumed the coyotes got her because there's a large population of them where I live. After reading something about coyote behavior, that they don't typically attack cats, I had hope, read up on how to go about finding a lost cat, and eventually found her! Shelter was reluctant to give her back, assuming the worst about me, Wrong! But money talks (ransom money) and she's back home!
What a shame the original family did not find him (he had a collar!!). But nice that Gerald found a new loving home. Rescued cats are the best (sure, it can take them a bit of time to get over their trauma, but be patient). It is so rewarding, for them and for you. The rescue centre was concerned about my adoptee (two failed adoptions, and 8 months in the system), but she is now so loving and adorable. It was a slow and gentle road to get to this point, and I think she will blossom even more in time, but she is happy and settled, and loved of course. I let her pick me (oh don't remind me of the subtle rejections I got from other cats in shelter, even though I am a 'cat person' and 99% of cats love me - they know who they should be going home with). Always let the cat pick you! One of my previous rescue cats absolutely demanded that I take her home with me, I had little choice!
He has a COLLAR! He has a family that misses him. He's screaming to go home! I hope his real owners see this video and that the cat is returned to his rightful family.
So last night I heard meowing outside and thought it was the stray that we feed. Nope it was a kitten stuck inside my engine bay of my car. Had to remove my wheel and pull him out. Immediately he started purring and rubbing on me. I was adopted. The crazy thing is I’ve been wanting a cat bc I’ve been dealing with my anxiety over the last few years. It’s been hard to work through things in therapy. I truly think this kitten was sent to me. So happy 😁
My little house panther was found and even micro chipped. But her previous humans changed their information and didn't register with the micro chipping company. As a result, she sat in the shelter for nearly 2 months. To top it off, she was 8 years old, so very few people wanted her. When I got her home, I gave her 2 cuddles for every day that she was in the shelter. She was a little skittish when I first brought her home, but she was also very social. After a while, she came to realize that attention wasn't always negative, and she became, what I called, a FOMO kitty. Maybe Gerald is better off in his new home. While his previous owners bothered giving him a collar, they didn't seem to bother getting him fixed.
I'm known as the cat lady off the neighborhood. I have been feeding 20 of my house cats and around 30 ferals. Before 2020 with help I managed to fix 21 ferals. I still feed them. At this time I'm feeding a kitten that is about 18 days old. I found him on the floor of my garage.
Such a pretty kitty. I'm so glad they were rescued. My husband and I have rescued 5 kitties from our backyard, and have taken in 6 found by other people, 4 of them were found by my husband's coworkers at Waste Management on their routes. And, my husband brought one home from one of his routes. The other two were found abandoned under a shed by my SIL's friend's boss. They were bottle babies and 3 of the one's found on a route, were siblings, not even three weeks old, so I bottle fed them too. We take them all to the vets and get them their wellness checks and inoculations. Our vet is awesome and gives us discounts and even freebies, including a free surgery for one of our babies, for her teeth. She seems pretty old, she's a baby rescued from our yard. We also foster for our shelter and work with the animal control to catch them and TNR them. I am a crazy kitty lady. All our babies are either rescued or adopted. Kitties are awesome. 😻
We recently rescued the sweetest male tuxedo tabby from Petsmart. I knew my mother wouldn’t allow us to get another cat until summer so I kept visiting him in the shelter just to keep him company. He was so shy, and small and had been there for weeks. I was so worried no one would adopt him so I just asked my mother just in case. She initially said no but then couldn’t stop thinking about him and changed her mind. Once we adopted him he was also diagnosed with FIV which I know some people immediately put down FIV cats. I just can’t bear to imagine what might have happened if we hadn’t taken him. It took a few weeks for him to come out of his shell but now he is the most loving, cuddly, funny cat. Our family does so much better with him in it. We needed him and he needed us.
I am so glad that you helped him find a forever home. I can't go to the local shelter, I keep taking in cats from outside. I have gotten two feral cats taken in since November. They were too sweet to leave out on their own. The prior cat before that was a stray that followed my son home from the post office, he had a brother with him that we unfortunately lost a few years ago to a lung infection.
My "big lift" for the day!! Such a happy story amid all the desperate attemps! for help on fakebook! Thank you so much Jackson, and to this loving couple! Gerald is going to have the "best life." God bless EVERYONE!!!
Shelby Laraine and I recently lost her older brother. I think she thinks the meowing is another sibling for her. She comes straight to the sound, starts talking back and then goes searching for them. Unfortunately, I’m not financially able to add another cat to our family right now, but we will soon!
I live alone in my 2 story New England house and I have 2 "Strays" living here. The "Mamacita" of the house, Sheena, who basically runs things, and my Feral boy "Damien" that I finally (after 15 months!) got to a point that he likes to be touched and petted. They're both all black. She's a gorgeous long-hair and he's a sleek shorthair parlor panther. I got her from Defenders Of Animals when Covid took her owner and Damien. was at my local shelter. He'd been found by animal rescue trapped in a dumpster while scavenging for food. I got him first, then her to. help him socialise and keep him entertained. They're the best. He LOVES her too. It's funny to watch him swoon over her.. So yes, adopt. You'll likely save a life and make yours so much better.
maybe they should have just left the cat where they found him. If he was in good shape then how do they know he was lost. He has a collar, maybe he was out for a walk and is just talkative. Poor boy has been kidnapped!
Actually, just the opposite, being outside, screaming, not neutered, not chipped, no "lost" flyers, he could have been dumped there, and now has a great home. Whatever happened to him before he was found, was negligence.
My son rescued a kitten that was dumped in a bank parking lot in the shopping district, and found in the middle of the night. He was only 7 or 8 weeks old, and my son had him at the vet within a day or two of rescuing him. He wasn't neutered until age 4 months because of the backlog from COVID-19 Lockdown, but my son did get him microchipped, simply because he had rescued other cats, and because his friends had lost cats that escaped. And the instructions for the microchip warned that the chips can stop functioning, so the company sells a self-scanner that costs more than $100. I rescued a cat myself a few months later, and did have him chipped, but I can't afford the scanner. I'm kicking myself because he just had his annual vet visit, and I totally forgot to ask them to check his chip. I rescued another cat some months after the first, but didn't have him chipped because he wanted to be outdoors. He didn't like being inside, and ripped up my screens trying to escape. So I only planned to TNR him. But he's FIV+ and the vet doesn't want him out spreading the virus through violent fights. So he's stuck indoors, and has accepted it since the night he got out and ran off to his old territory, where human trespassers aren't allowed (industrial park). He found his way back, and was really beat up, even losing most of his claws. He's not interested in going there again. Right now he's sleeping soundly in my bed, but he's contented to remain indoors with his housemate. He never went after the other cat "for real," though he used to play too rough. And now even that has turned into more gentle tussling. Hopefully the fact that he's not chipped won't lead to anything bad. Maybe I'll arrange to get him chipped at his annual vet check up, mainly to alert whoever finds him of the FIV status.
All of my cats are rescues. My ex liked the kittens but I go for the adult cats. Partly because they're harder to place but also my house is in No Way kitten proof. Merlin was 4 when he adopted me, Nica was 4ish, Sylvie was 10. The current crop are Paprika, adopted at 4 and now 9, and Holly, adopted at 8 and now 13. Opinionated and spoiled, and so are the cats. My overlords purr. Beautiful story, Jackson.
I got my girl from the shelter… it was an amazing adventure that started before my percipient cat even passed away at 18. I was working with a young girl who’s parents had this beautiful cat with very odd coat patterns that i’d never seen before. Her parents didn’t know what it was so I looked it up. Turns out their cat was a torbie. A tortoiseshell tabby cat. Then at the end of the summer my coworkers were checking out the shelter cats on one of their phones and the cat who had been there the longest had been there since the day before my birthday in 2022. I thought, if my girl goes, as I knew she was getting pretty old and was starting to slow down and stuff, this may be a sign that that cat is supposed to be mine. When my girl went in September, I instantly remembered that cat and called the shelter up. That cat had just been claimed for adoption but they urged me to come and see the cats because some cat there was waiting to come home with me. I looked at the cats that had been there a while and one really caught my eye visually but I was wary of the name because the cat I put down was Lilly and this cat was Lily. In the end I decided that i’d just go and let the cat choose me. We went and all the cats were kind of like warm with us. It was a little bit disappointing to be honest… that is until they brought us into the yard area where the cat’s outdoor enclosure was and one of those little fur babies started meowing and pawing at us. It was Lily. She was so friendly and loved getting pets. She was super sweet. I ended up asking them to keep her on a hold until I could bring my special needs client who came over lots over to make sure she got along with him. When we brought him, she loved him. (He is now her uncle and he spoils her rotten with treats.) We told them we’d take her and went to do the paperwork and then they told us her birthday. She shares my deceased mother’s birthday. I cried a little at that. Her favourite napping spot is the end of my mom’s side of the bed my parents once shared. My cousin is convinced she is my mom’s reincarnation. She loves her grandpa, her mommy and her uncle and we all love her to bits. She’s a spunky little diva and life is never boring with her around. We’re almost positive she’s part Maine Coon. She has all the common personality traits and the big paws with the long braid-able toe hair and the long ear hairs and everything. She’s small but she’s still only 3 years old which is still a kitten in Maine Coon years as they’re fully grown at 5.
My husband and I have 2 cats that both used to be strays. I picked up our first cat who was around 3 months old at the time, due to a concerning wound on her inner thigh. My husband picked up our second cat exactly 1 year later, who was around 4 months old at the time, due to the people at the market being concerned that the stray dogs might harm it. They are both permanent parts of our family now. After moving to a new house, a small 5 week old kitten appeared outside the kitchen door. We took it in, and treated it for diarrhea whilst being in contact with our amazing vet (we had moved far away from our vet and had yet to do research on the vets in the area. Here it can be difficult to find a trustworthy vet that gives you fair pricing). After a few days we found a good vet near us and were able to take the kitten there. Thanks to the vets help, we were able to find the kitten a new home, who make sure to take the kitten to the vet regularly so that they stay up-to-date on all vaccines. In this country it is very hard to find people who are interested in non-breed cats, so the shelters that exist here, are overrun with non-breed cats sadly. This is why we decided to not take the kitten to a shelter, and why we were trying to find them a home on our own.
After my cat passed. I waited a few months and then went to the local shelter and brought home not one but two little black beauties. Three month old litter mates who had been born at the shelter after their mother had been picked up on the street. You will never regret going to the shelter
Pretty messed up to steal a collared cat who looks clean and well fed. The collar looked new and was not tight. Feel very bad for the real cat parents. 😢
A happy ending for this Cat! Yay! I’ve been taking in strays for 52 yrs & all on my own funds( we don’t have a no-kill shelter here) I’ve found homes for most & adoted some that weren’t adoptable due to age or health issues & also other great Cats/Kittens-even whole litters!( like my Manx family that I didn’t want to see abused for shows or breeding! I’m 69 now so not as much $ to help them, but I still will if they need it. It’s the best thing I can do as a former RN & a life spent owned by Cats!😺♥️🐈⬛
It is nice to see so many humans genuinely worried for a small cat, from the ppl in the video to the comments section.. it shows theres still some good left in humanity and that humanity still capable of pure actions.. Nice. I hope the good grows in each of our hearts and spreads to those around each and every single one of us.
Three years ago, a friend of a friend took in a pregnant stray. Said human had never had so much as a fish or hamster before, let alone a cat. She decided to just rehome when the kittens were old enough... two months, right? So she's got a momma cat who just popped, four baby kittens... and as time goes on, this woman falls head over heels. Two months became three. Flash forward three years. I have one of the kittens... who was a troublemaker and fought very fiercely with others... and the same three kittens and mom, all now fixed, are still living with that same lady who had never had a single pet before them, being spoiled beyond belief. I did add to my household a year later, took in a local dog who was hanging outside a bar at the insistence of the bartender. She's been here two years now, and is spoiled rotten. Kitty is spoiled rotten. And while my apartment can't hold any more animals and I'm at the pet limit (over it, actually, but I got an exception made to have both a cat *and* a dog), I still love looking through the shelter pages. Neither of my girls were from a shelter but both still needed homes. I have very few regrets about them. And while my kitty hates other cats, turns out, she likes dogs.
Yeah, well…they were in the city by a busy street…it would’ve been better to post signs on the street where he was found saying he was found…he likely came from a nearby apartment.
