They're definitely fun. I got rid of my 8' and git a 7' and a 6'6. One thing I did notice, is that the Odysea have a bit better finish and shape along with a better fin system. I discovered hot glue is good for repair. Other glues will melt the foam down, such as Gorilla Glue and Super Glue.

Yes! Hot glue is a savior and gorilla glue! Also, agreed I think the odysea line killed it!

Is the soft top just to prevent injury of does it have some performance benefits too?

To put it simply, It hinders performance for an advanced surfer due to its bulky and clunkiness and excessive foam. But for a new surfer, it is perfect and allows them to progress quicker to get the fundamentals needed to grow. Although I recommend advanced surfers owning at least one soft top, it is definitely more of a necessity for the newer surfer.

Can you duck dive those boards or do you have to always bail?

You never need to bail! Just have to figure out different methods. Reading waves so you don’t put yourself in those positions, turtle rolls, etc
