Regrettably, straight male culture as a whole will always be benignly homophobic even at their most accepting. I believe that most straight dudes do not have a problem with homosexuality, but it is deeply normalised in our society to use homosexuality as the butt of jokes. However, to be fair to Shawn, you dont have to have a problem with something in order to have a problem with being mischaracterised. Its like if I went around deciding that all dark skinned people were black and then an Indian guy was like "Im not black tho.", according to you, he implicitly has a problem with black people otherwise he wouldnt take issue with being called black.
