Every sound you hear was created by Steve playing his acoustic cellos (with one exception -- a subtle "hi-hat" noise made by his voice).
The Cello Song is based on one of the most recognizable classical pieces ever written, J.S. Bach's Unaccompanied Cello Suite No. 1: Prelude. (Hint: Say Bach's title with an English accent and it sounds a lot better). It's been featured in a lot of movies (and car commercials)...Steven Sharp Nelson decided that this piece needed some accompaniment (Bach must have been busy and never got around to it? :) Adding some original material and 7 more cello parts stacked on top of each other, Steve has created a cool new sound that embellishes all the features that have made Bach's work so popular. The 7 new parts include drawn-out melodies which soar above fast arpeggios, strumming chords from a guitar-like part, shaker sounds (accomplished by rubbing the sides of the cello), tremolo (1:08-1:24), and a cello-banging percussion part (complete with kick drum).
"Bach was an amazing composer -- one of the best that ever lived. He wasn't the greatest with titles though (smile)... As a consequence, no one can ever remember his Cello Suite's name...so when I'm asked to perform his piece people always say, 'hey, can you play that ... um ... that cello song?' And so in Bach's honor I name this adaptation of his amazing composition after what it has been naturally called for hundreds of years. Thanks for listening!" -Steven Sharp Nelson

I haven't touched my cello since before I joined the army and after listening I realize I'm throwing away a God given talent and I'm going to pick up my cello tomorrow and play. I can't believe I quit after I left school... because the sound of a cello is the most peaceful sound in the world.

I just want to say thank you, this is such a beautiful piece and your arrangement takes it to another level entirely. I have a 3 month old daughter and whenever she is throwing a fit I just put this on, pick her up and she just immediately calms down and smiles (something that she rarely does). So thank you so much for this piece, it's constantly bringing joy into my family :-)

The first time I heard this was on a United flight from Chicago to Germany in 2013. I had never heard of The Piano Guys prior to this but when I heard this song play on the headrest I was hooked. It was about 3am over the Atlantic Ocean and all I could see out the window was a flash of red light coming from underneath the plane which lit up the cloudy sky that nite. Had never been to Europe before and this song conjured up thoughts of what it would be like.

I just saw you for the second time in Toronto! When you told me your story Steve,I had goosebumps. I too, live with ADHD! Mine is very severe, and when you said , squirrel my worker looked over at me and laughed, as I do that 1000 times more in a day and when you said it's your Superpower, my heart soared! The abilities it's given and the creativity that is born has helped me believe in miracles! Paul and you are incredible artists that I have followed for years, and dance too in my apartment! Your music lifts me up and gives me joy! By the way you two are the funniest and so authentic and honestly it is a source of hope listening to you both! Never know, how many times I have listened to " This is My Fight Song" to carry me! And thank you for the story of God loves Close Calls! That's the best.. I will never forget God's miracles! Was telling my worker tonight that if this is what heaven's beauty looks like down here on Earth then I can't even begin to tell you the magnidicient sound you can imagine will come with your music lifting all of Heaven! I love this song. I first discovered your music as a missionary in Texas. I would listen to your CD almost every night to help me fall asleep. It was my happy place when the world felt sad. +ThePeacemaker848 I am a HUGE fan of rap & heavy metal, but classical is where it's at in my opinion. However, I felt that this revised version of Bach's Cello Suite No. 1 Prelude, was indeed brilliant, but lacked the sense of ethereal beauty that Bach captured in his original writing of his suite. Tomáš Procházka lol, na those metal musicians just mash the strings on their instruments. I doubt most of them can even play proper chords. They probably started out learning guitar, found it too hard, and then went to playing metal because it was easy. lol Oh boy, I love ragging on the metalfan community.

I love the sound of the cello and the way he incorporated the different functions of the instrument was incredible and shows that there is more to a stringed instrument than meets the eye.

I have heard this song dozens of times now, and yet it never gets old. I love their enthusiasm, and I always feel uplifted when I hear this masterpiece. Fun Fact: At least for me, any Piano Guys playlist makes for excellent study music, and sometimes I play their music when I am lifting weights and working on my - flat stomach project! (I lost 35 pounds so far. I figure I have another 12 to 15 pounds to go to reach my goal of a flat stomach.) A Happy June to everyone reading my note! Cello was the first instrument I played. I was in elementary and I was a small kid so my hands were too weak to press the strings and bow to get a clear sound so I gave up. Today I play guitar and sing. But I’ll never forget how beautiful the tone of a cello is. Warmth like no other.

I found this peaceful creation early 2016, my kids father went to prison and stayed alone with 3 kids. I fall in depression and this melody helped me navigate through the storm. I found peace and hope, i also played it so many times to my kids when driving around my city very loud so everyone could hear it🥰 i felted so much peace that found my self in tears of so much emotions running through my body, I still do...but i have conquered depression. This masterpiece made me fall in love with classical music 🎶 Now i have a different variety of musicians on my playlist. Here are some, brooklyn duo, david garret, cello prague quartet, HAUSER 🥰, 2CELLOS, AND OF COURSE THE PIANO GUYS. I also have some pianist and Andrea bocelli🤗

I saw your concert in Florida. It was amazing. I’d never heard of you, but I was so stirred by you’re music, your passion, your genuineness, your humility, your love of people and for God! ive got a lot of physical problems, and just had two surgeries on my bladder because I couldn’t go without cathertering……I came in in great pain, needing to use the restroom, and with difficulty walking from MS. I was so stirred by your music, I cried , laughed, danced in my seat, clapped, and totally got caught up in your music. After the amazing performance you gave us, and a return for another song, I realized how bad I had to go to the restroom. There was no time, and my brother helped me walk down the many stairs , and through the parking lot to the car. It was at least 45 mins. Home, by now I was in pain praying to make it home…….I got in the house, and for the first time was able to go without cathertering! I know this is a strange testimony, but I believe I was healed in your concert. I’ve not had to catheter ever since. You are two very anointed and gifted men……I just want you to know how much I appreciate what God did through you, and your beautiful music, and your beautiful spirits.thank you for a life changing concert! I will forever be grateful……..in Jesus love, jane holmes, from Charleston WV.

I have to agree. I close my eyes as I'm swaying with my arms in an outstretched way and picture my sister's and I dancing in a field with ribbons in our hair and beautiful full swing dresses on. And love flowing everywhere.

Chris Hall For heaven's sake, I did say "somewhat". When a musician distracts from the flow of the music and causes alarmed concern for his instrument by abusing it, I'd say "somewhat irreverent" is a more than apt description.

I get involved listening to the beatiful version of Bach's solo cello. Its exciting, a beatiful jorney for you soul.
