it was a bad take but tatum wasn't so much better than him that it's "shake your confidence in Ryen" bad. 6/22, 92 offensive rating, 1/7 from 3 and 1/7 at the rim, bad shot selection, etc. Tatum hurt his team a lot on offense even though he got assists because half his possession were missed shots and he had a high usage rate. the opportunity cost of him having the ball so much (good+bad) made him a net negative on offense. still, his defense was great so he was better than Kyrie who was bad on both ends. i don't mind tatum getting flak for being shit though

They are, but there's also a reason. He's got a huge offensive load (Usage Rate of 37.4 is wild) and is also being put in every action on defense. He's gassed by the time the 4th quarter comes around. That's half the reason you attack stars when you can. He could probably be in better shape to hold up to it better, but even if he was, fatigue is inevitable with that kind of load.

@SchulzEricT

Well, he touches the ball less by far than any other team's #1 and he has more assists than Luka. So... yeah, he's being unselfish. He's also not gunning in that he's taking good shots, rarely forcing bad shots. (Which makes his poor shooting more confounding, for sure, but still: unselfish.) I think it's unbelievable that the 4th best player in the league, who's spent THREE fucking seasons proving it, is suddenly being picked apart because he's shot poorly in 2 games. Granted, Finals games, but honestly the bullshit, dumbass criticism has been all playoffs long. As his team has gone 79-20, the criticism of his play has gotten worse. Fucking astounding.

Absolutely not. White is great. I agree that he'd be mis-cast as a #2, but he's an awesome #3 and a ridiculous #4-5. Yes, he's a role player, but we need to stop making that a dirty word. He is a star in his role. Boston isn't where they are (or even close) without him.

@slightexag
@slightexag 3 месяца назад
The only thing I'll say is that Brown seems like he's still getting better with contributing to winning (energy, elevating his game in the playoffs, mentality, being a great teammate, amping up defense, knowing how to exploit space on offense, mastering the left hand), while Tatum has plateaued or taken a step back with his overall scoring consistency, even if his play-making has improved. Tatum can still contribute when he's garbage on offense because of great defense, but that's not elevating his game, but struggling to barely meet a low superstar standard. He used to be considered clutch but he's 3/17 in the 4Q in the finals (besides being terrible in the clutch and 4Q in the larger sample of the regular season), bad efficiency the entire playoffs, etc. If superstars get re-evaluated every season after the finals, I think Tatum should be lower than he was before the start of the season, even if he wins. His offensive performance made every series harder but he's dodged even more criticism (he still gets it but still) because his team is incredible and can cover for him because they have so much experience doing so. They have won in spite of Tatum's high volume, high usage, bad decision-making, horrible shot selection, low efficiency play quite often this postseason. We're at the point where peak Brown is way better than peak Tatum, even if Tatum's all around game and high floor might edge him out over Brown overall.

@@josephrafferty6763 i think he still takes so many of those largely because of Joe's 3-pt math game offensive approach and "to keep defenses honest" and thinking about the possibility that tatum will launch whenever--maybe it helps with a second a hesitation so he can get past his defender that little bit easier. however, i think it might be the least efficient offense on the entire team because it both bails out the defense and always involves one man show offense that ignores the fact he has teammates. he's a good catch and shoot 3 point shooter, so i don't know why that needs to be his favorite shot

It slowly builds, and you can see the anxiety and nerves build in the physical actions of the players. The Horford fastbreak that resulted in him losing the ball for absolutely no reason near the end of the game perfectly encapsulates this.
