At the end of 1837, the body of Queen Hortense arrived, who died on October 5 in Arenenberg. The funeral convoy arrives on November 19. On January 11, the ceremony took place with great fanfare. In 1846, the monument that Louis Bonaparte had requested from Lorenzo Bartolini was officially inaugurated. The statue represents the queen kneeling in an attitude of prayer, hands crossed, dressed in a sleeveless tunic, her head covered with a long veil. The base is covered with 3 bas-reliefs: charity, Virtue and death in exile.
