People need to educate themselves on property ownership laws. And young people need to STOP selling the land! Lease it long term if you just want money but keep title to it!
My family has heirs land in Texas and some of the descendants live on their share of the land, a few acres have been sold. Part of the problem is it is in the country, not a lot of industry there, its in Texas and many of us live out of state. It is cool that it has been in our black family for about 100 years and the family reunion is held there every summer. At least the concensus of this generations heirs is we should keep it in the family at all costs. Each family pays a share of the property taxes each year, which are low as long as there are grazing animals on the land. Thank God for my country farming cousins.
So many of Black families have been through this. 💔 I think many folks in my generation (Gen X) became enamored with "big city" life and, readily sale our land shares for quick money. We have immediate expenses and are eager to take that immediate money. The living cost is so high! I'm trying to hold on to what I have now. My wife and I get calls and letters asking if we want to sell our property. 😓
First, I'm embarrassed that after twenty months, I'm just discovering this invaluable piece that cuts to the heart of the experiences of Black U.S. constituents at large. Second, it's appalling that at the time of my viewing, only 830 of the 28K viewers considered it worth the effort to "LIKE", i.e., appreciate the time, effort, and ultimately, the expense of collecting and compiling this invaluable footage and reporting. Thank you for all that you do in the name of the historical preservation of often marginalized people and communities.
Why do you think only supporters are viewing this? Those who are responsible for gentrification and genocide are anxiously awaiting opportunity to do what they have done globally for centuries. Nothing too be embarrassed about sir. They are going to make the power move soon.
Please keep your LAND use it for yourself it can supply all your needs Let it be your entertainment for all of you to enjoy, there’s enough of you to make it your “own” put your skills to use🙏🏾
I Love the fact that the families are trying to hold onto what their forefathers purchased & passed down to their children. I look at it as a Major blessing!! Their land is absolutely Beautiful! However, on the flip side of things, change is inevitable. Property taxes increasing, new roads being added or enlarged, larger schools being built are all signs of growth. I believe that a person should be able to hold on to their property if they want to as long as they are paying their taxes. They should Never be forced to sale their property! Period!!!
Beautiful people. I want those home owners to build some properties on their land for the younger generations and get together and open a supermarket to begin
I grew up in Nassau County, Florida (Callahan, Florida) The most Southern Lowcountry area in the Southeast. When I was a child I had to work on my grandfathers farm, I learn a lot about farming and hated every moment of it. I help plant, weed, and picked it all in those fields back in the day. When I was 17 years old I join the US Army in 1979 and vowed never to set foot in another field or return to dirt roads and the country. Here I sit in KIlleen, Texas in 2023 at this very moment planning my move back on to my great-grandfather's land (purchased in 1902) within months. The funny thing is, I'm spending $500,000 to get what I had for free as a child. I've traveled the world in the US military and as a Department of Defense employee, I'm looking forward to getting back to my roots with a passion.
What happened to the land from your grandfather with respect to was it sold or lost? Did it fall into heirs property? Did your parents and uncles/ aunts sell it ? Im only asking because that part is important.
Listen! This man speaks for all of us! I have personally experienced this heartbreak. God isn't making land anymore. The beauty of having a soul connection to the land is priceless.
In Wadmalaw Island, South Carolina, my Great Great Grandfather (1843) bought a 100 acre waterfront farm for $50.00. When my Great Grandfather died in 1939, the land was taken. My Grandma and father then left for New York. My bloodline is GULLAH GEECHEE. GULLAH FUH OONUH OR GULLAH FOR YOU.
Keep fighting to preserve your history and family legacies! Continue showing resilience and determination in educating future generations about the value that their namesake holds. This is American History happening right now.
African Americans, American Indians, Hawaiian Americans, Alaskan Americans, even Mexican Americans have lost so much land, and generational wealth in our country. Families with fractional ownership need to learn how to hold on to their land. They’re trying, but they desperately need some help! It’s time to really Make America Great Again…For Everyone!!🇺🇸
Don't give up on life on planet Earth. This is your final days on planet Earth. The war is wages in sins. Sins of those that were before you and fail to make amends. Instead amendment is made to a flawed Constitution and 13th amendment criminal justice system. Amendments were created after civil war. Civil war indicates a flawed Constitution. The league of Nations consist of military super (war) powers. Corporal punishments is penal colonies mentality. It is not remedy for atrocity created by dictators and aggressive tyranny. Peace is not peace when someone has second opinion hidden agenda. Wealth when it corrupt you is wages in sins.

I wish so badly that the ancestors would have talked more about our history. So much lost in death and now people like me have to search thru records just to find what was rightfully ours its hard its pain staking and exhausting but ill keep searching and I tell my children what I find so my generations below me will know who they are!!
Generations of trauma and PTSD. EVERYday could be the last. Severe trauma can change ones DNA/RNA for generations. I contend the sell off of family's led to perhaps the continuing locking heads w each other bc tribes could hold different beliefs and traditions. Then on top of that, the stepping if identity... Imagine the strength, yet stress of holding it in so as to put a strong face for future generations. "Some things better left unsaid". I know what you mean. I do kick myself at 71yo, that I didn't make more time to grab a pencil and paper... 4.'22
What they didn't speak about is well documented, wither way they left us the GEMS, WE HAVE TO SEEK THE KNOWLEDGE! THEIR FOOTPRINTS ARE HERE SO THEIR VOICE LIVES ON! GO FIND WHAT THEY DIDNT SPEAK. They've seen things our eyes has never witnessed by the grace of God himself. I don't blame them for not telling us what they seen, and went through. They spared us mental anguish in that capacity on top of modern day Jim Crow America inc.
This is a very timely piece. Thank you for making it. I believe there is an awakening occurring in our young people who are now seeing the need for land and business ownership. This is something that was lost over the last 2 generations where the focus was "get an education and move to the city where you can get a good job". This was the way out of poverty for those generations and I dont blame them. Now the young people have access to information on finances and investments. I hear young people talking about generational wealth and diversified portfolios. Keep pushing. The young people coming into adulthood now are poised to do great things if they know where to start.
Center for Heirs property, please let the people in this video know that they can use compost toilets, wells and a basic two person septic systems. Also they can use incinerating septic systems, solar toilets, and solar showers. The advantage of living on/near marsh- Wetlands, Bogs and in a flood zone, is that you only need to dig 100 feet with an auger to get well water. The Town won't tell them this information, because they want to tax them off theur property (PLEASE NOTE, THESE UTILITIES MENTIONED MUST MEET THE STATE'S HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICE GUIDELINES.) I'M GULLAH GEECHEE AND I FIND LAND AND RESEARCH DEEDS FOR OUR PEOPLE.
Very inspiring I’m a native from and island in the pacific called Tonga and we’re different in ways but I see some much similarities and a lot of them from the real African American that’s actually owned there own land I hope to one day come walk around and feel that powerful energy floating around one love to them geeche
Drive out the Black families by building a 5 lane highway right at the front door of these people's home. After the massecre of the Greenwood community (Black Wall Street) in Tulsa....a freeway was built to make sure Black families could not rebuild.
Very insightful knowledge gives revelation to "economies" and the depth in back stories with the urbanization within cities and towns. Why the need for so many expensive homes , high rents and cost of living when jobs can't meet the demand? Pennies on the dollar is predatory .
Wisdom and truth. Spoken in plain English for us to truly understand. I wanna say 'thank you' in as many languages as i know to say it. But, in plain English, thank you. mimi niatwa L
Damn shame. Take and take and take. Where are we to go, this is our country. May God keep their feet in place and hedge of protection around them and their homes.
I've been researching my family history via Ancestry. I've learned that my maternal ancestors were members of the 7 Mile community and an ancestor was buried in 8 Mile. I planned to visit, but, unfortunately, both communities are gone. Commercial and expensive residential properties now sit in their place. Conversely, multiple plantations have been preserved in the area.
When I moved to sc in 1996 the reedy river was clean. I used to go swimming all the time. By 2000 it looked just like his river. It’s insane how these companies burned the land just so poor and black families could not use it for free. Bastards
This makes my heart hurt. These are my ancestors, my mom is Ghanaian and we all know the Gulla came from West Africa. Set up a gofundme to get a good lawyer. This makes me so sad and angry.
we have to teach the youth and coming generations the economical advantage to having land. And raise them not to be lazy in tending to land because it is hard work but so is working for a check
It's not that it's just heir's property. It's the fact that AA don't talk about business like it should be discussed. People move away and then one day want to sell and then they sell to a person who wants to force the rest out. It Will's were set up correctly and it was discussed that before you sell the family's land to a person or company sell it to family first. It's not the city or state, or a company that is the AA's worst enemy it's the lack of business communication.
The city should grandfather all heirs for property tax to help them salvage the historic areas and hold on to what belongs to them. God bless them all.
Years ago two sisters willed their homes to their respective churches because they didn't have children. Those properties served as income for the churches during those transitional periods as generations moved in & out causing the income of the church to rely mainly on those with fixed incomes. The churches have now upgraded to user-friendly (elevator, handicap ramps, etc.) and paid off so they can give even more back to the community. One of the churches is the 2nd oldest black church in the city and once served as a school for black children that weren't allowed to attend the regular schools. So having that home provide income has been instrumental.
Amen! Land is prime real estate. So what’s the solution? The owners are basically Heirs from homestead Freeman! Can’t there be legislation amended for Heirs’ Property Preservation & Protections? It’s also an Historical Preservation as well. I really enjoyed this eye opening video. Thank you
Thank you for sharing. It has given me some real interest in knowing everything 💯 😌 first hand knowledge from those who know the history of the Era. My ❤ 💙 💜 love all your family 👌 efforts...loving the basket making. Would love to visit 😍
You are doing the right thing, you must teach the children the value, because when the land is ignored by the children, they will sell it to the first entity who sets a price for it. By hook or crook it will be taken away. Only when its gone, will the uninformed seller realize that they should have held on for their children or concerned relative or friend. Someone who will treasure the land as a keepsake.
Would be nice to hear the native american habitation of this area to put everything in context in regards to history / real allodial aboriginal land title.
If the church buys the church, then it should be in the contract to keep it in the family. I’ll buy the property. Who do I contact? Systematic racism: raise the taxes with no relief in sight. The kids go to school and don’t connect…it’s by design
Step 1: Go to abandoned piece of real estate Step 2: Start cleaning up the property Step 3: Place Mechanic LIEN on property Step 4: Go to Bureau of Land Management File for a LAND PATENT 💓LAND PATENTS SUPERCEDE DEFACTO DEEDS AND TITLES
Sometimes, elders tells a percentage of the story, instead of the telling younger generations the whole story. Interested in, how many of theses families, actually spoke to their families about the legacy of their family land, instead of broadcasting to the masses. All of this valuable information can or may be used against you.
Because people want what you have. If you really don’t have a full understanding what that is but broadcasting ‘bout it makes you an easy target for exploration. Then there’s age old tactic our property tax auctions. @@mosijahi3096
I fear my grandpa kids which are my uncles are going to sell his land that's been in our family for two centuries. They don't understand the legacy of our ancestors even having land & are so quick to get rid of everything once the elders pass. It's disgraceful in my opinion.
Lose our land = lose our history. We have to remember how precious our land really is. Many of our ancestors worked for years to acquire and keep property. Why sell the land and then rent from someone else? Great question.
Yes we need reperations the very first step is to add up al the injustice years red lineing..over 500 years now for the next .. 500 years..we are tax exempt 👍🏽🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 now give us our land and for the black faimlys that have there's keep it.👍🏿
The jews who are Kazarians, owned the slave ports in Africa and here in the USA and the ships to transport and work out of Rhode island! Never here about that! It's because they changed the times history.
This may rub some folks the wrong way. But, back in the day, we needed land to farm, feed ourselves and survive. However, farming is not what most young people are interested in. Land usage has to be updated. Talk with the young people about ideas for land usage other than farming. Perhaps they can build houses that are worth renting out or some other kind of businesses. Otherwise, If they sell the land, they can still invest in something that is worth having today. Holding on to land and not making use of it, will only lead to more land loss.
How does he not see it as race, when they want to add a 5th lane to the highway? He must not have been taught or was raised to believe that because he has generational property that it isn’t about race. This sickens me that many of us who are fortunate doesn’t see that racism is embedded in the very foundation of this country. This is partly why and how many of our black towns disappeared. The fact that the family is fighting because of what the city is planning, is EXACTLY what I’m talking about. I’ve been toMt Pleasant and it is beautiful. Do they even know about what the Gullah islands are going through? Are they aware of Tulsa’s history? I’d love to have. Conversation with him. Harvest on, still is racist. I’ve spoken to many people there and you can see the blurred lines. As long as the block people stay in their lane, everything is good. It’s an unspoken word.
James Island in general has drastically changed. Grimball Road/barn hill, Grimball road ext, sol Lagre, everything is being taken or families are selling! It's impossible to move home to the island because of the cost and constant building, traffic. Thos video hurts!
12:53. Come on man. Your talking ppl that were just recently Emancipated and most were illeterate, AND NOW must be subject to US laws? For God's sake, they are also trying to find family members that were sold off. So much trauma, STILL.
I'm just sickened by these stories. Both sides of my family came from 100acre farms each, here in NYS. Combined 225yrs. I got the land thing believe you me. 4.'22
