I did some plaster repair work in the "storybook house" 20 some odd years ago.. it is a very cool house.. lots of character.. as much on the inside as on the outside.. the owner at the time was a builder that I worked for and he said that the outside walls are lined in steel in case somebody wanted to fire a bullet through it back in the capone days
@@rickeymcelyea8175 Having broken glass cemented to the top of boundary walls was a common thing in the UK. These days, that has been banned in case it was to cause injury to a potential intruder. I am not joking, by the way.
As a tourist to the States we would never really get to see other areas of Florida. These back road vlogs are really interesting to us as we get to see areas we wouldn't normally get to see. Really looking forward to more back road vlogs and other content. Stay safe and much love.
@@dabzprincess92 what do you mean not true do your home work??? I am speaking about my wife and I not really getting to see other areas of Florida when we visit. We are normally tied up at tourist hotspots such as the theme parks or Kennedy Space Centre. Being there for only a couple of weeks every few years we don't get too much time to drive around the back roads. How can I talk about other people's experiences?????
@@sergeantsonso3490 being commenter is from another country or even to out of state folks they would probably say "back roads" in the sense that it's not the interstate to said Hotspot tourist destinations they are used to. Lol just my 2 cents.
I went to Florida Central Academy for 4 years. We called that house the Gingerbread House. This guy is making WAY too big of a deal about the Al Capone tie-in. It was a rumor that he may or may not have been there., he didn't own it. When I went there FCA had one golf. Walking through the weeds kicking rocks was a disservice to a place that meant a lot for many students (some who put in a lot of time in having the Mt. Plymouth Hotel/Florida Central Academy) to have this recognized in the state historical records. If you are a history buff, research Florida Central Academy, Mt. Plymouth Hotel. This is not even a passable description or tour.
Interesting video. Just up to road on the north side of Lake Weir, gangster Ma Barker and one of her boys met their end in their hideout in Ocklawaha, Florida back in 1935. Maybe a destination for another central florida explore.
They have recently moved Ma Barker's house to Carney Island Park, it is still in Ocklawaha though. I used to live there, they do a re-enactment every year.
@@treemarie213100 I have lived 90 miles from disney since 2018 and still have not gone there. Why would I want to pay those prices just to fight the crowds.
FYI, Florida Central Academy was an international boarding school until the fire that destroyed it. There was a gym, tennis court, outside basketball court, handball court, and of course the swimming pool. There was also a library, and rows of houses for some of the faculty and another dorm off the 'main house.'
In all probability Machine Gun Jack McGurn, Al Capone's #1 Henchmen. Who was rhe architect of the St. Valentine's Day murders, also played golf at Al Capone 's golf course. Jack McGurn was a championship golfer. Capone's bookkeeper was Greasy Fingers Jake Guzik. Excellent vlog!
One time I went to L.A. by myself. I was out exploring and ran into the witch house by accident. I literally took a wrong turn, and there it was! It's kind of funny because it's the only house in the neighborhood that looks like that, so it really sticks out. This house does resemble it. It was eccentric, yet fun!! 🌴
This is your style Adamthewoo .. I appreciate you showing this Aussie the Real America . The excitment in your commentary on things you have never seen or done is easily recognized . 😀
A lot of times golf courses are contaminated with chemicals and some period of time has to pass before the land can be redeveloped. It also is highly possible that the entire grounds have to dug out and treated as hazardous waste. Banks won’t put the money up without the EPA signing off on the property.
I live in the subdivision that sits where the golf course used to be. The course was built by Henry Ford. He had a personal landing strip nearby for his airplane that he would fly from Grosse Pointe, Michigan to Mt. Plymouth. There is some amazing history about this area!
It's great to see you back at doing what you are really very good at. I admire your diligence when it comes to researching what you explore and putting the story with the video. You are a true artist. Thank you for sharing your talent with us...
Thanks for the adventure, Adam. I like that you’re traveling around, seeing new sights, showing historical content and letting us see things we wouldn’t normally get to experience. The wind, the atmosphere, and just a touch of spookiness made this very entertaining and gave an element of intrigue. And the house was gorgeous.
LOVE THE OFF THE BEATEN PATH ADAM the Woo videos, been joining him for quite some time thanks for these fun NON THEME Park Videos looking for fun things to do when we move to Florida in a few years
loved this vlog! I am going to have to send it to my Dad he loves golf, he would find this interesting. I love history especially when it involves Al Capone, he had a lot of property all over Florida.
Yeah, but that house is creepy and spooky especially at night when it's time to go to bed. All the noises through the night and disembodied spirits you will see. + It is a time caps Frozen in time. It would not be healthy living in a place like that.
A little ATW just in time for afternoon coffee. Loving it!!! And loving the video! Just got back from central Florida… HHN… you’re a great ambassador for the area. My hotel room had a great view of Old Town and you’re the reason I knew what I was looking at.
I am getting nostalgia watching this from your old days of road trips through rural America or better yet your abandoned locations. Love it!!! Keep it up and wish you well
I’m sooo stoked for this kind of content again! You are really good at this exploration and historical/abandoned locations type of Vlog. We can feel your truly happy making these because you are enjoying yourself not just to make a video but true passion for what you’re doing. Thank you Adam. Hope to see more like this. Enjoyed it with some popcorn 🍿
Really enjoyed this one, Adam! I like the combination of local sites with lore and history. Your insightful commentary is always informative and not ego-driven. Your humor is charming and infectious and I laugh out loud right along with you every time. Thanks for the trip, from an appreciative soul.
Great one Adam.... Loved that Golf Course Al Capone Link. Also...LOVE that first house. Found it online.....absolute fairy tale interior too. Only $400K. Neat stuff!
I must say I miss you when your gone 😢 However self care me at be a priority. Loved our drive today. After all it’s the small bits all woven together that make America great. Thank you for retelling our history Adam. It’s your gift to us ❤️
You took me on some really cool history of this place ...really interesting and love the enthusiasm you give off ...I love this about your videos....Adam thank you for great. Journey today ...lions and tigers and BEARS OH MY LOLOOLO
Hey Adam! Just wanted to say... really enjoy your videos... really respect you making the decision to step back from daily vlogs to be more present in life itself. (At least that's what I interpreted your message to be.) I enjoy doing the very things you seem to enjoy doing, so you actually give people a vicarious view of how it feels.. much appreciated sir!
Adam thank you for your vlogs. My dog Parker (who was in your artagon meetup video) passed away Wednesday and these vlogs have been an escape. You don’t know how much it means to me ❤️
That old store at the end across from Merv's Mowers was called the Sorrento Grocery. I believe it was still open about 15 years ago until the owner got in trouble with the law and wound up behind bars and that was the end of that. I saw him a few years ago after he was released, what a super nice guy it's a shame what happened.
Hi Adam! There are lots of bears in Seminole and Lake County. My friend lives in Sanford off Hwy 46 and they come into her yard and carport. There is even a special bear crossing built under Hwy 46 so they can cross the road without getting hit.
I live in Altamonte Springs (near the mall) and same here. The I-4 Ultimate project caused a lot more wildlife to push through also into neighbors they usually don’t meander through. Seen a coyote for the first time last year
That home is really cute. I love it! I love unique things. I wonder what the inside looks like. Definitely looks like a home out of a storybook. I just looked up the Zillow on that house. There is already someone buying it. Pending sale for $400,000.
Adam. I am very happy with the back to the new old content. I was think the other day about watching those 5 years with you doing the same style content and how I knew it was just in your blood to walk the path not taken and document the journey. I know Disney and the history of Disney is a big influence in your life, but I knew it was not your forte to just be a Disney vlogger.
It also looked like a neon golf ball and golf balls from long ago were quite different...still cool place though. Probably a lot of modern golf balls there because people still kind of use that area as a driving range...
Hello Adam, you can tell in the enthusiasm in your voice and "step" in your walk, that you are truly enjoying this type of video, at this time in your journey of life. Please keep up the good work. I look forward to and enjoy your daily videos, it helps me to "dream" and takes my mind off my current "troubles " of the day...to what my life could have been or can be in the future. 🙂
I’m glad your back to exploring Adam. I personally am Disneyed out! Mixing is a Great Idea Take care abd stay safe One of the first viewers of your long time travels..Thankl You Ron
Love it! Makes me want to go exploring again. I grew up in central Florida and haven’t been this enthralled by anyone in a long time. Wherever you go, I will be watching
Each of these videos are mini-documentaries. Think about that, Adam. You have created (and are creating) thousands of documentaries. It’s really overwhelming to think about.
I made myself today sit down to write & say Thank you for these incredible trips(Adventures) through America's off the main road towns. I am mesmerized as like you, the history of them lets my mind imagine the stories, the people & what it all was like. A long long tome ago (Late 70's I lived on a street you lived on Carlton Way (5916) info from another video you said this street. My time was way b4 you but what a great street. Went to Bally's which use 2B a bowling alley in the 60's and a fight palace in the 40's. No sure what is there now since I retired to the desert. 20 yrs ago. Again, thank you for these great video's. I knew Miami a bit more from the 50's & 60's.. Your FL history and start also was quite a story. John
This was fun. Fire ants were the worst part of my living in TX, so damn difficult to just sit in the grass. As an appraiser that storybook house is awesome. Those boxes on the course were for irrigation control I believe. This also the chill and happy Woo
I was confused at first when Dubsdread and Adair was said to be in Lake County. Didn’t realize those streets were also there. College Park has Dubstread Golf Course and Lake Adair. Loved the Storybook Homes!
Amazed me as well . I grew up between the 3rd and 4th greens of Dubstread Country Club on Brassie Dr. I also lived in Sorrento and guess I just never noticed streets named the same or thought if it was near a golf course all streets were named the same . Hopefully College Park and Lake Adair areas havent changed much . ( sure , lol)
GREAT VID! Really appreciate historical content & commentary especially as a Florida native. My friend is a Park Ranger in Lake County, and YES it is chock full of bears, alligators, snakes, cougars, and Feral Hogs. Good move on your part to stay away from that large hole being rooted out in the field! Florida is full of eerie places and history off the beaten 'tourist path'.
Great video, explored that area myself in my off beat travels exploring the strange and unusual around Florida. Your filming take/talent gives a great perspective showing these rarely enjoyed places! If you ever run short on great stops in and around north central Fl. I'll gladly pass along some stops that may be worth rearing their head in some future video.
Adam I love when you do these videos. My favorite thing you sometimes do. I did Disneys parents grave because of you. Bob Ross is also buried in our area . Keep it up buddy. Still waiting to bump into you one day on an adventure in central Florida. 👍👍❤️
Adam, just keep being yourself, you're making great memories that you can someday rewatch and see all that you've seen, and someday when you have a Family of your own or kids, you can show them what all you've seen in life, even if they have followed you on RU-vid and watched every video you've done.. So just be yourself be happy and do what you want to do, you're the Boss... Awesome video as always.. 👍 Could be Florida bears lol they do travel, i see a bear on that sign,, you can't miss that sign, be safe too...
