4:21 Great point here about the differences you have as a nurse. Love this video though. Mental health is important and we are also trying to talk about them in our app and videos! Definitely subscribing, looking forward to more about this!

I have a question. How do I know I will have the patience to be a mental health nurse? I’m considering a lot, but I’m scared I won’t have what it takes.

You can do an access course or if you have a levels that would be enough. Have you tried reaching out to mental health nurses through linked in?

If you work in MH setting you might be given an apprenticeship but if you work in a general setting the only apprenticeship you can get is for adult nursing

Hi, I just want to ask. I have an upcoming interview for a Substance Misuse Mental Health Prison Nurse. Is it the same title in terms of its Duties and Responsibilities? Thank you.

Of course you can. Some people start in their 60s. I think it’s better if you a mature students because this role is emotionally demanding and having life experience should help

The thing that you have "missed as a service" is a basic understanding of mental health conditions. Not sure how it is your able to go to university and still be incapable of conducting a basic evidence based clinical evaluation which is required by law. I know this because not only do i have experience of mental health services but i am also a psychology student and i have witnessed practises by CPN's that we have been expressly told by professors not to do. The assessments conducted by PhD's (the psychologists and psychiatrist) differ EXPONENTIALLY from those conducted by CPN's and you need to ask yourself why! Your not providing patients with the help they need because you truly do not have a clue about what is wrong with a patient or how to fix it. What a patient needs is to be seen by someone who knows how to do their job!!!

Graceeyx, your absolutely right (i too have a Psychology degree as well as bipolar type2) . As much as I applaud this ladies approach she seems confused as to her role . Ive experienced psychiatric wards many times and we need more professionals and less armchair psychology from fresh faced new-blood . Her (grandiosity) ooops i mean empathy hopefully will not turn into the apathy that drains the air on a ward . To chloe-dont forget-you get to go home, and quite frankly I know barmaids that have to put up with more crap . Its the equivalent of a mechanic coming home after work and being gobsmacked he's got oil on his overalls . A big shout out to the very rare nurses that make a real change and deserve it because they are few and far between, best of luck Chloe , dont follow the herd , be your own leader, but also realize your limitations

How could you leave such a nasty comment? She’s obviously privy to a lot of different mental health illnesses other wise she most likely wouldn’t of graduated. Half of our course is on placement which exposes you to SMI’s (serious mental illnesses). I’m sure she’s just not expressing it directly in this video. I’m also a mental health nursing student.

Leah McDermott They’re clearly not going into the correct profession if they are so quick to judge a 8 minute video.

Leah McDermott The hostility in my comment is a result of 7 years of relentless failings on behalf of mental health nurses. I have been seen by many professionals GP’s, psychologists, neurologists and consultant psychiatrists, all of whom have tried to get me help in the community but their expert opinions are never enough because some nurse (multiple nurses in different trusts) believe that the three years they spent at uni (compared to the 12+ spent by the PhD’s) is enough for them to ignore expert opinion. I will not apologise for a word of it because it is true!!! Mental health nurses have prevented me and many other people from getting the help we need not only because you don’t know what your doing but also because of relentless lies you tell in reports which also prevent us from getting help and you want us to be concerned with her mental health problems?! There are people out there who are dying cause you won’t admit some simple truths to yourselves, if you truly cared for people you would put aside your ego and look at the harm you are causing society and change but NO the only thing you can derive from that is offence..
@graceeyx4439

Charlotte Louise I am going into the right profession!!! And this is not judging just 8 minutes from one nurse speaking. My opinions are derived from YEARS of failings by EVERY nurse I have encountered!!! The human brain is the most complex living object known to the universe anyone who thinks they can learn to navigate and treat disorders of the brain in three years is in the wrong profession!!!
