Would you believe that NFL turf managers face challenges similar to what you might experience in your own lawn at home?
While it's a totally different scale and there aren't nearly as many eyes on your lawn at home, NFL turf manager for the Arizona Cardinals Andy Levy tells us about some of the challenges he faces in Arizona. There are pros and cons to a field that is grown outside in the hot weather and brought indoors to the cooler weather for games and training camp. Similarly, the transition from ryegrass overseeding in the winter to healthy Bermuda for the summer is a major focus of Andy's work while also stressing player safety above all else. Tho make that system prefect they could do two things: 1- Put a heating system in the ground so when you bring it outside the soiltemp goes up quicker leading to more growtime 2- Make a seccond field and use them alternatly. Of corse you have to have a big wallet for that.

Gday Ryan, great video. In Australia some of our best sporting fields are in Melbourne where it gets quite cool, they use large heat lamps on the fields to keep temps up, is this a common practice with some NFL fields that don’t have the ability to roll the turf outside ? Cheers

Yes they use big light systems here on wheels. They do this also for shade issues in certain areas of the fields towards winter when the sunlight is lacking.

This may be a stupid statement but since they have basically endless money couldn't do some sort of warming system under the soil to keep the soil temp up while its inside? I know they have systems you can put under your driveway/sidewalk to keep them warm so I feel like something like that could be possible for this I am sure they thought about something like that but still just seems like a possible solution

Thank you Ryan for replying. I had one last question...I am getting ready to apply Scotts Halts Crabbgrass Pre-emergent. My lawn solution box will be in this week and I was wondering can I apply the liquid application stuff from your the simple solution box or would I need to wait a few weeks to apply?

@@grizzlefluitt8010 the liquid aeration isn't actually part of the box but usually there is no harm to adding those liquid fertilizer products shortly after any other application

Ryan, In my travels today I drove past Augusta National Golf Club this morning. It is amazing to see their lawn along Washington Road just outside of the gates (That is as close as us normal people are allowed). The perfection that is reached at Augusta National is far beyond what anyone can comprehend!

Why not just use hybrid grass? (No not turf) 75% less water, plays exactly like grass and easier to maintenance Entirely too much Great work by the grounds crew though

Did you let them know that your lawn at home always looks good? ;-) I think a lot of people take sports turf management for granted...but it's a lot of work.
