Michael Snape’s 'The Change' is a huge airy tumble of plate-steel shapes painted royal blue. A large semi circle of metal plate, tilting 30 degrees upwards from its tapered ends, an industrial tiara, gives structure to the work and encompasses the other 12 elements, which are welded to it and to each other. Although the work is roughly 7m in diameter and 5m high, it only touches the ground in 6 places, which creates a lightness of feeling.
This work you can explore by walking in and out under the tilted arc, which is nearly 2 metres above the pavement at its mid point, and which tapers down at either end to tips that touch the ground 7 metres apart.
The Walsh Bay Sculpture Walk is an outdoor exhibition of sculptures created by Transfield and located around Walsh Bay, just west of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Walsh Bay is a fusion of urban living just a short stroll from the heart of Sydney. This cultural precinct mixes a rich history with vibrant creativity and panoramic harbour views. Maritime wharves have been converted to stylish apartments whilst others house performing arts venues, theatres, restaurants and cafes.
