How many concubine did the King have and how many kids did he have

He had a queen and 4 concubines. they were all from noble families except Uibin, Deok-im. 2 of them died very early with no heir. Deok-Im got pregnant 5 times in 5 years (you can tell who was his true love) but none of her offsprings survived over age 5. Having concubines in Joseon dynasty was King's duty to balance the power among political clans through marriage. So there was no romance nor did the kings have any opinion in selecting concubines. But they were free to choose any court maiden and that's how the most palace romance began historically. ^_^ Several years after Deok-im's death Jeongjo takes 4th concubine, and she produced the next crown prince and a princess.

Thanks I really enjoyed your research. I was also surprised how well historically ascertained is "Red Sleeve". There's rarely remained about King's concubine due to complying with Confucianism in Joseon Age, but Duk-Im's record did exceptively since King Jeongjo's own will. It proves love towards Duk-Im too.

Yeongjo should have died when Prince Sado turned 16. Joseon might have survived. Can’t believe he married a 16 year-old when he was 67. She turned out to be evil and poisoned great King Jeongjo in 1800.

Oh wow. You know the history. Yes. The history might have been very different if Jeongjo continued his reign much longer. I might be still living in Joseon with the royal family. That would be fun too.
