In the 90s I constantly listened to The Charlatans, Blur, Suede and Supergrass. I knew no one who knew those bands where I live. I enjoyed and am still enjoying their music today... Greetings from Flanders...
decent, apart from suede, blur and supergrass! these guys are cut from the same cloth as the stone roses and the happy mondays, all good northern/ manchester bands, unlike those art school, posh wankers 😂
Ive just turned 14 and i wish i was born earlier to listen to the great bands of 90s, im not talking about classic 'britpop' with the chart wars between oasis and blur, although they were two great bands. I love bands such as the charlatans, stone roses, happy mondays, the smiths, the la's, the dylans, cast, massive attack, ocean colour scene, saint ettiene, pulp, gene, obviously paul wellet, the chemical brothers and many many others. People of my generation do not seem to connect with it (or they just havent discovered it) and it actually confuses
I'm 13 and all my friends think I'm weird for listening to the charlatans, stone roses etc. But it's their loss I suppose. I just wish there was better music nowadays rather than one direction and Taylor swift :(
I was a teenager during the mid-late 90's there was an awful lot of crap music back then as well as banging tunes like this, but just like now, there are some real gems out there, you have to look beyond the usual music channels to find it. There was a reason indie music was/is referred to as thus. I am not going to lie, the 90's/early 2000's was a great time to be a teen.
Ben Chambers I'm 24 so I wasn't a teen in the 90s but the most important thing for me was, and it's still, to listen to the good music, it helps to distinguish you from the crowd. Don't matter your age, be always proud!

Epic tunage , explosive intro , one of the greatest live bands I have ever seen , shivers down the spine stuff . If this does'nt get you goin nothing will .
Beer, football (dressed in Chipie, Chevignon, Kicker boots ready for later), more beer, drop an E or two at a rave, club or gig later. Just another Saturday in the early 90s.
Oasis nah- no comparison, - rode the wave of the the rest, not even close, saw them all at the time Spike Island etc etc- Glsgow on the green etc etc..... Spacemen 3, Inspiral Carpets etc etc
Just got off from a Zoom chat with Mum and Dad who through work and travel restrictions due to this bullshit world we live in now I haven't seen for nearly 2 1/2 years I've just turned 47 and Dad hits 75 in April and his first few sentences were I have your Head Full Of Ideas box set and The Black Album vinyl's waiting for you... blessed. He still loves this band and in particular this track...x
I loved listening to The Charlatans in the nineties. At that time there was a club on the Lower Rhine, the Rock Babylon, that played Brit Pop, Sixties Garage, Seventy Rock, Darkwave, etc... Among other things, Charlatans. A completely underrated band :-)
A fantastic song dedicated to Rob Collins, if I am correct. Sometimes, the piano reminds me of Nicky Hopkins' contribution on We Love You by The Rolling Stones. The Charlatans are an excellent, somehow underrated, band.
They were like the Sex Pistols their money was stolen by their accountants. Then those terrible deaths and Tim was really ill at one stage with his problems they were sued once in America by a band called The Charlatans unbelievable they were and are heroes to me and my friends when we were younger absolute fabulous band.
How good was the music back then? These guys, Oasis, Blur, Ocean Colour Scene, Kula Shaker, Seahorses, Cast, Shed Seven, Suede, Pulp, Bluetones, Travis, the LA's, Lightning Seeds, Embrace and more...........every single one of these bands would shit all over todays bands/artists. Real, proper music is dead these days. Very few talented musicians/bands around. TV karaoke competitions have ruined music.
+Barry Fisher shut the fuck up. I love most of them bands you've mentioned there. But how cynical and old fashioned do you want to be? There's so many amazing bands around today. Stop being so ignorant and actually give modern music a chance.
Richard Keys I gave it a chance and it's shit. You stick to listening to One Direction, Justin Bieber, all the X Factor winners and other muck like that. Let's see if you are still listening to them when you grow up.
The most underrated band of the Madchester - BritPop era. They trascended from one genre to the other and still rockin till nowadays. Tim Burgess is one the best frontman on 90’s British bands 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
3rd track at last night’s fantastic gig in Liverpool. 35 years and still going strong. If you haven’t caught them live, do it, they are brilliant live.
'One to another' features the late Rob Collins on keyboards, he died in a car crash shortly after it was recorded. Singer Tim Burgess described the song as the band's 'Love will tear us apart' moment, in that it became their biggest hit and turned out to be their very last recording with Rob Collins.
Ian the artist that coined the term madchester with my graffiti sigil i was writing it all over Manchester England and Tony Wilson stole my intellectual property..
Can you imagine this- forgot about this song from 15 years ago then suddenly hear on R6- that huge pleasure and memory then also the relief we have BBC Radio 6
great band never got the mainstream recognition they deserved, such diverse tunes and a different sound with each album they released, inventive and original, love them to death xx
I always told: this song would be a great soundtrack for an Guy Ritchie's film. Playing poker, stealing diamonds, fighting gypsies... perfect match, isn't it?
I still remember watching Oasis at Knebworth '96 when The Charlatans supported them just after Rob had died.. Their helicopter hovered over the arena as Cast played a truly great rendition of Walkaway...
I first got into the Charlatans when I heard 'Just Lookin' on the radio. Then 'Just When You're Thinkin' Things Over' charted and I saw the video on TV. I bought their self-titled album on cassette, then they brought this out and it was the best song I'd ever heard. RIP Rob Collins. Doncaster Dome '99 - awesome gig.
yeah, that's may be sad but this show opened my eyes to great music so I think it's all good. Since then I've been listening The Charlatans and wow I love them!
Definitely in the indie clubs, this track, iggy the passenger, the Monday’s Step on, Electronic get the message , Blondie Atomic, the Clash London calling, George baker selection little green bag, these were the tracks played at a little indie club I used in 97/98
a band that could easily have been "bigger" than oasis , FANTASTIC riff on the keyboard , right up there with all the great keyboard riffs , and great drumming , all in all a deadly band
His voice is not for everyone. Hes like lou reed, ian brown etc. They do not have pretty voices but they are unique. Liam in Oasis had an beautiful voice so they are more easy for most to listen to
