THE CHASE LINE GETS THE JUICE!

In recent years the Chase Line, Walsall to Rugeley, has been operated by Class 153 and 170 diesel units. On May 19th 2019 these were replaced by Class 350 electric units. This video was shot entirely at Landywood Station, which is located between Walsall and Cannock, on two separate occasions. On the 6th May I shot the swansong of the diesel stock and on 28th May the electric newcomers.
With the new stock was introduced a through service to London Euston, so if you see Landywood on the Euston Information Board you now know where it is, That's the good news, the bad news is that the journey time is a minimum of two and three quarter hours and can involve 24 stops. I'll stick to the 90 minute Trent Valley route from Lichfield! Footnote, 1st October 2019: Not surprisingly this service has been discontinued!

It may be an illusion. They stop in both directions.

Staggered platforms either side of road bridge do create that impression.

An interesting video, thanks Alan, with excellent visual and audio as ever. The slower journey time is presumably in the name of progress, with the decision makers having listened to the views of all affected by the change. In theory, the positive side is lower pollution levels of noise and fumes which will hopefully benefit those living close to the line. Nevertheless, a point in modern history! Kind regards, Bob.

Thank you Bob. I was well outside my comfort zone with this one but as it was such an important moment in local railway history I felt that I had to mark it. Kind regards Alan

This has affected our timetable now Alan. We have lost the shuttle from New St to International so have to catch these heading to Euston and Liverpool's back into New St. As you say, from Rugeley I cannot imagine anyone using this as a through service with the WCML option. Walsall onwards more likely but at least no change in NS. Personally I have no desire to travel to London but handy having a through service to WH or Crewe/Liverpool.... Cheers, Brian.
