We started patronising this stall when it was located at the Margaret Drive hawker centre. very affordable during that time, $3 for a big plate of noodles.

This must be a Sungaporean version of Shanghainese food. The dumplings 鍋貼 are usually fried on a hot plate and not deep fried. They are long and thin with the ends slightly opened so that it’s not too watery or oily. Btw hot and sour soup originated from Szechuan not Shanghai.
@GregoryLeow
@GregoryLeow 6 лет назад
Hi, it’s a singaporean-ized version of shanghai food. It’s not meant to be authentic. They started back when there was no Shanghainese food in singapore so it’s evolved to be a hybrid of sorts. It is what it is, a localised favourite of sorts :)

THIS STALL WAS FROM MY PREVIOUS NEIGHBOURHOOD MARGARET DRIVE, BACK THEN IN 1980 ONE DUMPLING COST ONLY 25 CENTS AND MUCH BIGGER.THIS STALL WAS LOCATED ON THE SAME FLOOR AS THE FAMOUS CANTONESE CHICKEN RICE SIN JI.

Man... I totally regret I didn't know your channel before I went to Singapore :(. I went to Maxwell food centre twice and all I got just Tian Tian and hum jin pang.....T.T. And you are right, your wife is an expert in reviewing food. U two should do video together more often 👍

Visited this stall when they were at Commonwealth, loved the food. Always a long queue. Didn’t know they shifted to Maxwell. Went to try their hot & sour soup last week - still so good 👍🏻

Shanghai don’t cook this kind of noodle, by look at it, it s too sticky , not a good dish for hot and humid weather in Singapore
