How does this only have 12M views?? It’s the greatest music video ever! It launched my Chem Bros obsession when it came out.

"Greatest ever" accolades can go to a lot of vids, thankfully. Tom Petty's "Don't come around here no more" is one. Jamiroquai's "Virtual Insanity" is another. Yes's "Leave It" is yet another. (OK Go sits in its own category -- you can argue for hours over which is their best, and you can also argue whether they're a band first, or into making music only so they can make really cool videos.) Most people go for mediocrity, which makes it easy to make a boring video (which is what most bands do.) On that, you can at least hope to see all of the really awesome videos easily. If you dug deep enough, you could compile maybe 50-100 hours or so of truly creative videos.

Too bloody right! Taylor Swift and the likes have not got an ounce of greatness like this? Music was some much better back in the 90s! Maybe it's because I turned 13 in 1990 and saw the decade through my formative years? But I can't think of anything in the 21st Century that really gets me...

I feel like each decade tends to rebel against the previous decade, with some exceptions. The "free spirit" sense of the 60s was a retaliation against the comparatively stiff and proper 50s. The Disco/Punk/Metal era of the 70s was a reaction against the hippies of the 60s, and so on. Anyway, the 90's had a whole generation X angst (articulated well in the movie Fight Club in the "spiritual war" discussion) rebelled against the optimism and perceived decadence of the the 80's. And that was fine, and each era produced it's own amazing music. But then 2000 rolled around and instead of a rebellion against Gen X cynicism, it was embraced and amplified. A whole generations (probably more) of people who are inspired by nothing but offended by everything. Meanwhile the internet and social media matured and things became more homogenized in terms of technology and exposure. In short, music (and a lot of other parts of the culture) became more lazy, more "art by committee", and more bland. Marketing became more refined, coupled with social media trends, so the "sizzle" can be sold much more easily even if the "steak" sucks. Hence why a mediocre singers like Beyonce and Taylor Swift can sell billions, when far better singer-songwriter-musicians can barely fill a coffee house because they lack a marketing apparatus. What is the great, original art that the last 25 years has produced? Lord of the Rings maybe and a few animated films. And even Lord of the Rings could be argued as being not original since the source material is so old. It's an artistic desert of bland, boring, gray, uninspired and untalented content out there.

@starwarsunfiltered7848
@starwarsunfiltered7848 Месяц назад
1999 was right about the time that MTV transitioned into pure suck, thanks to pop music and TRL. You could still see good videos (usually late at night or in the morning, like this one), but from 2000-2004 and on it was only pop music and trendy Top 40 rock and I think by 2005 there wasn't even music videos anymore outside of the occasional episode of Making The Video. MTV had basically relegated all music content to their satellite channels of MTV2 and MTVHits, and even those became inundated with trash after a few years. From 2005 and on, MTV was all reality shows and complete garbage. I don't even know why the network keeps the "MTV" name outside of the obvious brand; I mean...how can it be "Music Television" without any actual music content?
@ericthiel4053
@ericthiel4053 Месяц назад
@@starwarsunfiltered7848 True. But MTV2 was still pretty legit. I loved it when they did A to Z in the summer, I remember a buddy of mine always tried to tape every video but would get like 5 blank VHS tapes in and give up lol. I think most the videos I watched were on MTV2 at that point.

I was listening to Noel being interviewed on BBC Radio 2 a few days ago and a lady phoned in to request this song, but she accidentally said Liam and Chemical Brothers Let It Be.😂 Fortunately, Noel took no offense and told her that he gets mistaken for Liam many times. Later as he left the studio he said "Liam Gallagher Signing Out".😂

I was looking for that song for SO. FUCKING. LONG. I couldn't ever remember the exact lyrics. I looked for "How can you feel like", "How could it be like", and so many other variants. And after giving up, today I had this epiphany where "how does it feel like" came straight into my head, and somehow, I knew that had to be it. Brain, you weirdo.
