He certainly has the calculation ability, but you can see in this video a significant difference in memory compared to Carlsen. For a game that was meaningful to him, Carlsen would never have to check notes to remember moves or key lines. Or perhaps it's just a matter of confidence.

I think xu yi's game with 5 brilliant moves was in this line with black after Qe7 its the same position, if I'm not mistaken in the pro chess league 2023 shanghai tigers - indian yogis match, if that memory is right then I'm a beast
