Me to but not if it’s going to be 60 games. I don’t think the damage we could do to the sport with these proposed shortcuts is worth it for two months of baseball. We had our chance and the players and owners blew it. I’ve packed it in for the year.

@@alexvratsanos5227 at least in 1994 we had baseball in April, May, June, July and part of August. In 2020 we will be lucky to see anything and if we do we get this really short regular season and a radical extreme playoff with 16 teams in it, Yuck.

Don't forget....the "Chicken and Beer" article was in the Boston Globe. John Henry owns both the Red Sox and the Globe. The author is a known writer of assigned "hit pieces" for the Globe. The Chicken and Beer was a legitimate cause of the 2011 Red Sox failure. But using the same "hit piece" to expose Terry Francona's personal life was dirty, low, and cowardly on the part of ownership. Francona was the most successful manager in Sox history. They should have kept this out of the story and just parted ways. And also don't forget who they hired as Francona's replacment.... The ultimate clown, Bobby Valentine.
@SportStorm23
@SportStorm23 4 года назад
I actually didn't know that. That adds a whole other layer to this story.
@jfturner73
@jfturner73 4 года назад
@@SportStorm23 Yep, its true. The Globe assigns Bob Hohler to do "investigative reports" on various sports topics where there is some sort of scandal. He's done "hit pieces" attacking Tom Brady over Deflate-Gate (the Sox/Globe owners are Democrats, Patriots ownership and Brady are known to be Conservative and Trump supporters) , the poor relationship between the Celtics and Kyrie Irving, etc. Hohler is very good at what he does, but it is always with a hidden agenda to make someone look bad.
@trevorm1876
@trevorm1876 4 года назад
Henry didn't buy the Globe until 2013 though
@zeked4200
@zeked4200 4 года назад
Henry may own the Globe, and therefore have some editorial leverage, but the articles (at least in the Sports section) being written have nothing to do with Liberal/Conservative politics. Keep that sh*t to yourself please. Nobody wants to start a political thing...so don't make it one. Hohler was hardly the only source to "out" the 2011 Red Sox. Sean McAdams and Steve Buckley both wrote scathing articles too. The details were starting to leak out. Hohler isn't really known for "hit pieces" either...I'm not even sure what that means. He's not nice enough? He writes the truth? He came from a different era of journalism. He was just doing his job as a journalist, as were all the other sports writers who wrote articles about what was happening. This is hardly the first time a Boston journalist has turned on their own team/players either...are they all "hit men" too? John Tomase and Ron Borges wrote about the Patriots and SpyGate in great detail before that story was broken by the league. John Tomase is the one who claimed the existence of the "Ram's walk-through tape" that people still reference, despite nobody ever having seen. Bruins writers constantly sh*t on the Bs and their (mis)management...that's not even a secret. The Celtics are the only team in town who gets treated with baby gloves like "everything is awesome!!". The local media believed Celtic ownership that Kyrie was going to resign, so they didn't turn on him until after he left. Everyone else has their dirty laundry aired for the whole town to read about...and it isn't just Bob Hohler doing it. Nobody listen to this dude. Talking about Bob Hohler like he's a hired assassin called it to get the sports dirt when somebody doesn't toe the right side of the Conservative/Liberal line LOL wow...! He's a 60-something year old journalist who does his job...just like the rest of the journalists in town (except the Celtics). The only things he had right were Francona as greatest Sox manager, and Valentine as a clown.

This season really hurt. I had been following the team pretty closely since about 1999, and VERY closely since 2003 at this point, and my golden memories of the Red Sox were of the 03/04 teams and their respective playoff runs, especially 2004 of course. 2011 hurt so much because it was the real, true end to the last real vestiges of that 04 team - which had ABSOLUTELY defined the Red Sox ever since. Mostly it was that Epstein, Francona, Varitek, and Wakefield - all major leaders from 2004 onwards - were all gone from the Red Sox after 2011. It was the end of an era, and what made it so terribly sad was just how talented and how much potential that team still had. The 2011 Red Sox could have been - SHOULD have been - a 100+ win team! Even with the horrific 2-10 start and the historic September collapse, they still had 90 wins with a pythag of 94 wins - so a 100 wins is really where that team should've been sitting. But instead it was an epic choke, and they blew the whole thing up and hired an idiotic oaf as a manager and gave him way too much license to gut everything that made that 2003-2011 Red Sox what they were. 2011 was my last real year as a big-time baseball fan, watching nearly every game the Red Sox played. That collapse broke me as a fan, combined with how dreadful the 2012 team was to watch.

Honestly, I feel like the events of September 2011 were a massive blessing in disguise for the Red Sox... - It made it exponentially easier to break up a legendary team that had run its course and needed to be broken up - While breaking it up, in Papi and Pedroia, they picked exactly the right veterans to keep on - Red Sox Nation is better without the fairweathers who jumped off the bandwagon because of it

To think a 2011 Red Sox scandal may have lead to the Cubs winning the 2016 World Series

If both redsox,rays would have lost then both teams would have to play a tie breaker the following night.

Red Sox put it all away in 2013, for the nughtmares of 2012 and 2011. Red Sox won it all in 2018. 2011 is forgotten. The yankee fans can hit me with payback for 2004, but what is important to remember, who suffered the worst collapse in the history of the rivalry? The yankees did, which was 2004 ALCS, so they need to remember that. Case closed!

Red Sox plan on winning a title 1. Overspend on star players who will eventually get hurt/underperform 2. Have terrible/underperformaning seasons 3. Trade/release those player's 4. Aquire old but serviceable players/journeymen 5. Promote Develop stars from the minor league system 6. Win title

Their plan really is just 1. Draft well. The rest of the stuff just happens.

@@Matt-pl5lz more like 2013-2018 the other times they didn't overspend on bad players in 2004-2007 compared to 2010-2018

But Rays haven't won a championship. As a Red Sox fan come talk to me when the Rays win one. Red Sox made up for it 2013 and 2021 knocking out the Rays.
