It gets HOT in Georgia. Thus the raised floor for air flow under the house, high ceilings as hot air rises, and tall windows so air can be let out at the tops of the windows. Note the number of floor fans to keep the air moving. It does get cold in winter in a house designed for hot weather. Therefore the fire place and the many space heaters you found around. The deep front porch would be full of rocking chairs, perhaps a swing or two and a lot of living would have been on that porch. The ionic columns look odd but Greek inspired columns have always been popular in southern architecture. You were lucky to be out on an apparently cool day! Happy exploring to you!

It also looks like a dog trot where you could ventilate from the front to the back with the breeze through the doors. I wonder how old it is.

Judith, you said Exactly everything I was just about to comment on with regards to the fans and all of the space heaters. Also, you mentioned the very deep porches with the furniture outside on the porches. I lived in a very small town in Georgia for a year in a house that I rented. It was quite similar to this house!😊

This was a very cool explore. I think this house started out as a family home and has architectural features typical of country built houses of around 1855/60. It’s made a great hunting lodge for the owners. Thanks for taking us along on this explore !

Hey I just thought of something. Please don’t think I’m weird but this is what I thought of. God forbid if something ever happens to me or my family and somehow our house or houses get abandoned, you always have my permission to come explore and tell our story. I think you’re the best explorer in the whole world of abandon things, because you’re an angel sent from heaven you’re so respectful and you tell the stories with love and care. OK that’s all I wanted to say, and again please don’t think I’m weird but I kind of just thought of that. Love, Freya

Great video so exciting youve come to Georgia to explore houses there. In the South houses were typically built raised up off the ground without basements. The small house built with cinder/ cement blocks was a well house. It covers where the well is located and would have an electric pump to send the water into the house. Thank you for showing us this old family farm home used probably for family celebrations and gatherings, hunting after the children left home.

Here time stands still. I feel like I'm going back in time 20 years. It looks so cozy and the people there have put so much effort into creating a comfortable home. Such a pity. It's so deserted now. From the outside, the architectural style is reminiscent of paintings by an American artist who uses exactly such houses as a motif. I can't think of the artist's name right now.

Hello, Leslie and company! I live in Georgia (Augusta-to be exact). Nice to know you even manage to get to these parts. It's a far cry from Europe. We have a lot of old mansions here. Most have been turned into businesses, lawyer and doctor's offices. Concerning this home: I feel so badly that this family cannot agree on what to do with it There are a lot of selfish people in this world, fighting over what is left over from a modest life. People need to start caring about the past. The past helps us to understand the present and plan for the future (the good and the bad). When we understand those that came before us (in our own families) it gives us pride in our accomplishments, it also helps to to understand why we have the eye color we do, hair color, certain characteristics, etc. That kind of interest seems lost on our own youth today, and it is so very sad. Sorry I rambled on! 🤗 Much love to you all and the work you do!!🙏

@@kimmyhawk5612 Hunting puts food on the table, hon. It also helps to thin out areas where there are too many deer, keeping them from starving to death when their food supply has been depleted. I do not know what drives THESE people to fight like this. Maybe there is buried gold in the walls.

Love your narration Leslie and how you respect the homeowners as if they are there with you. The house is up on bricks to protect inhabitants from radon gas. The exposed siding on the wall in the kitchen means that it was once an exterior wall and that room was added on so the original house footprint was smaller. The high ceilings were needed to keep the house cool during the summers before electricity - and transom windows over the door ways increased circulation. It's very special that the owners didn't install drop ceilings and central heat/air back in the 1970's when that was all the craze. We call those antennas "rabbit ears". And it is remarkable that the chandeliers are still intact. The "wreaths" are typically made of grapevine or something similar & became popular in the 1980s. All those deer eyeballs creep me out but I'm not a hunter... but I would have loved to have climbed that tree as a kid. What a great place to grow up. I hope they resolve their differences and remember what families are for - a loving community.

You hit the nail on the head, Maria, when you explained the reasoning for the transom windows and the exposed siding on the wall in the kitchen. Also, I too, remember the rabbit ear antennas. My parents had them as we were growing up. I always thought it was so funny as I watched them constantly fussing with the antennas and thought it was so hilarious and truly wondered, what the heck good did it really do?🤔🤔🧐🧐 And look at us here today. My parents wouldn't believe how we are communicating and how we are doing it!😲🤳👩‍🦽👩‍💻👩‍🦳🌞

You did a wonderful job Leslie. Thank you for sharing this great story with us and I pray those kids will stop being silly but instead realize they are all family. They should work things out without fighting about things. It's so sad when greed is present after your parents pass but I experienced when my half brother took everything from me. Sad but it happens more than it doesn't unfortunately. For future reference Leslie, just because people have angels or pictures of Christ on the cross it doesn't mean they are Roman Catholicism but could more than likely in Georgia in the South be Baptist Church,Southern Baptist or Methodist Church or even Lutheran Church. We all enjoy angels and Jesus Christ 😊🙏

Not a mansion, a farm house. Lovely property. Here in the states very little is made to last thus the wood. As we buy upgrade appliances, often the old is used for extra storage.

The round decorative piece is called a "Wreath" and they come decorated for every season. I live in the state right next to Georgia. Lots of mansions here in South Carolina!

Sadly, more than likely the house will fall into disrepair. To the point of the only option will be to sell to the land to recoup the taxes owed on it.

Love this your. I live in Georgia and grew up in an older home. The home is typical of many I’m familiar with. It’s sad the family couldn’t agree and keep the house and land. Note: I’m pretty sure the second small structure mentioned as a doghouse was likely a well. It looks like one and may explain why water was still available. Thanks for touring Georgia! Keep up the good work.

That is not a mansion. That is a farmhouse. And you need to be careful not to get shot. You’re in Georgia after all.

Not hunting season. Check out the foliage. Of course that’s not to say there aren’t peckerwoods running around with firearms. It is Georgia, after all.

The way you describe things I bet you can make an old outhouse sound like the Taj Mahal.
