one thing i have noticed time and time again in some toys is that duracells, energizers, great value... pretty much all alkaline/non R6P batteries will actually not fit properly, in some items due to R6P/Zinc batteries being smaller in size... Dankpod's actually made a video of a really early mp3 player which he was struggling to get batteries into... likely because chinese manufacturers didnt take alkaline batteries into consideration, as goes with some toys and other manufactured goods. ive noticed in my experience that Zinc batteries really, really like to rust when leaking... im pretty sure its happened with alkaline batteries too but its always zinc batteries that corrode contacts in my experience... alkaline batteries usually leave behind a white power which cakes to the contact, its possible that alkaline batteries can also corrode just like zincs do... but either im just lucky in my experience or modern batteries dont rust as often.
Alkaline batteries do rust less, but I have still seen them rust. Really the moral of the story is take the batteries out of your stuff if you aren’t gonna be using it for a while…
