Been waiting on him to make a video about the PT Cruiser. I also kind of want him to make a video about the Ford CVPI, but honestly there isn't anything to review with it, I just more-so want to hear his opinions about it. I'm a CVPI fanboy.
This is one of the ones doug was talking about in the end of the year video. Nobody wanted it, he knows it probably wont do great, but he was excited and wanted to review it
@@gazebo9730 Now THAT'S a good attitude, kid. Consider the car a gift and make it work for you anyway you can. Google "Custom PT Cruisers" sometime and just LOOK at what people have done with them.....they're a customizer's dream!!
@_jeff _ update: my grand uncle upgraded to a platinum hybrid highlander. He sold my parents his 2013 rav-4 le for a great price. I now drive a 2013 Rav-4. 😎
@@orangecayman520 Yes he did, but then he mysteriously was driving a pt cruiser. The first time I remember seeing it is season 5. In the prince paper episode he rips the bumper off if you remember.
That was the first video I saw from Doug. At the time i left a hateful comment and here i am loving his content (since 2016), and enjoying those sexy quirks and features.
Actually, on Chrysler radios you get a second bank of presets if you push each button a second time. Same thing with the button to set the presets -- push it twice and you'll see SET 2 on the display, indicating that you're programming the second bank of presets. GM did a similar thing with their Delco radios -- pushing two adjacent preset buttons simultaneously will give you another preset.
I’m suing Chrysler. Yesterday I was competing in the 69 hours of Le Mans and I was in my PT cruiser GT Racing the Scion tC I was going 420 mph and the car took off! Luckily I walked away but the car was a total write off. I didn’t know my car wasn’t fitted with the factory spoiler.
Imagine being exited to see that Doug Demuro rents your car through Turo, only to see it absolutely roasted a few weeks later. I bet the Maserati Ghibli, Nissan 370z, Mercedes AMG CLA45, Maserati GranTurismo and the Maserati Quattroporte owners could tell us.
It might be awful in terms of styling, but other than that, it's rather good car. The JTD engines are bullet proof, had 6 seats, was comfortable, was cheaply made but WAS cheap to buy, so honestly it's not so bad. It's only ridiculed because of how laughably weird the styling is
If you can't handle a PT cruiser at 240 Miles per minute you're not driving the right car. These things are a force to be reckoned with. Definitely will not disappoint. Randy Pobst would probably call this the best car of all time, I mean just look at it
Couldn't agree more. I have a 02 dream edition absolutely beautiful car. No rust. Have a 04 no rockers left on the inside, holes in the floor but still runs good with 240k
one I saw didn't have any rust. It had reparable issues but no rust. I'm not sure I'd call it pristine but close on the outside. but those brakes had to go. SQEEEEEL
@@tf7426 The only Mercedes you'll find with any cheap plastics from that era was the A and B class, even then it's mostly the radio/infotainment. Meanwhile every US car from the cheapest to most expensive was filled to the brim with nasty plastics. Mercedes reliability is shit, probably worse than most US cars.. but their interiors was fantastic.
@Richard RenNo, Japanese (and Korean) cars have always been way worse than US cars when it comes to plastics. Somehow people like Doug ignores this though.
He’s a car journalist, he gets paid to do this because there are millions of us who watch his videos. What he says about the car doesn’t yield him any more or less money. If you don’t want to hear bad things about your car, don’t lend it to a journalist.
@@alexapplegate619 Yeah most Chrysler's went backwards with interior materials toward the end of the Diamler days, which is surprising since interior quality was already low before then lol.
Yeah, I'm sure they realized the short comings...they drove this little guy and took care of it all these years apparently. Someone treated it well or better that crushing it with a Hummer... lol.
A friend drove a PT and I remember having to lean forward as a passenger to be able to see the traffic lights above and tell him when the red light was over.
And once removed the rear shelf in the upright position had a use as a floor divider in the completely flat cargo area. I'm a little puzzled all that got left out since these are quirks very few cars, if any, have.
No he's biased and has no consistence, in one car he prises using let's say turn signal lever from other car and says it's good idea and in other he trashes exactly same thing.
People tend to over analyze things and everything they do analyze goes through a personalized bias confirmation filter. So fuck all you and your opinions. Let the man do his work.
My dad had one if these in cherry red, drove it all the time as a teenager, it was way more fun than it had any business being lol. We called it the "GT Bruiser" 🤣🤣🤣
Mr.Scurvy that’s not intentionally done to lengthen the video, he frequently talks about the issues he experiences with videos being too long. A lot of RU-vidrs speak ridiculously quickly. Doug is just a good public speaker.
@@mr.scurvy if doug spoke twice ass fast it would take all the comedic timing out of his videos and nobody would watch. Cramming twice as many words into half the time doesnt mean the video is twice as good. cadence and timing are a huge component to comedy, and comedy is a staple feature of doug videos.
I miss mine. It was a dark red 07 with a factory gray hood. (Blended well tbh) I love the little funky cars like that. Mine also lasted me till 240+k miles
Why is this chat fighting over a pos aztec and a pos pt cruiser? They both equally are niche terrible cars. But yes they are cool because they are unique.
I feel like the cruiser is so split. Like half of the people hate it cause they think it's ugly, unreliable, too small and uncool. But then the others love it cause they think it's beautiful reliable and cheap. Its like they talk about two different cars
@@felixmoore2143 If someone didn't blow a red light and tbone my dads 08 Candy Apple Red PT cruiser it would still be rolling. He just got fresh brake lines in it too
@@akutan04rt50 honestly Roman his script writer still posesses the spirit of the channel from inception. Mr. Reg has become every other automotive journalist spoiled by opportunity and choice, he's lost what made him..him honestly
The door panel storage holes are special performance weight reduction mod for the GT Cruiser. 8:00 The defrost button, again for easy side switch with the lighter. (EU-US) 8:37
well this was way better than the designers absurdly bad fail that had nothing but problems one just couldn't fix with the HHR. Run away from those. I see um and I don't get um.
I'd say Doug is in the Hate it crowd. There is no between. I loved it. Cheap easy to fix reliable. Check. Jeep Liberty 2005 expensive , cheap to repair, mod and a piece of shit. And clearly brother almost got shafted if he didn't know everything about one cause it became extremely clear the dealership hid a front end driver side crash. ie if you were inside a 2005, the PT just looks better. and can mod it. Even the Turbo you can mod the hell out of it with super turbo intakes. And I've been told again but love and hate it people (GT = love hate LE = Love Hate Turbo which could be the GT Love hate) that the Turbo from the Love it folks.. was great in the snow. Not sure about the Manual's. Those are harder to find. PT's don't stay on the lot much and alot of young people drive them. What they think of it at the time we need a sign somewhere in LED saying cars = :) or cars = POS. I'm sure that rather expensive car he attempted to fit in and couldn't = a POS car cause whats the point of a car if you can't fit in the thing. Plymouth Prowler gets a pass. cause everyone wants to look at it and not drive it... and it won't break the bank. Not cheap by any means. But unlike the serenno (horrid spelling but hopefully someone gets it) will break the bank and still won't fit. cause I'm tall myself. PT Had plenty of leg room. Scion almost has too much leg room. PT was way ahead of it's time..
He has bought the car. If he likes the styling and doesn't mind the poor quality he can still be happy about it. If you only need "some car" to go from A to B, there are worse cars to do that.
Doug, I had a rental PT for 2 weeks and although it was the poster child for cheap cars, I actually still like the design and I thought it was a very practical design for a small car, much more than my Crosstrek. Yes, I know it wouldn't last more than 60k miles. Oh, and gas mileage was horrendous. Mine had a very cool analog clock.
I’m QUITE OFFENDED about EVERY NEGATIVE WORD you stated in this introduction when I first saw this vehicle I knew I had to have it and I had a very positive experience the years I had it , I bought a Black limited model during the beginning of its life when there was at least a six month wait if not longer to receive them . I happen to go into my dealership and was able to negotiate one that someone else was supposed to pick up that day , she didn’t come that day so I was able to drive off the lot with it and I was EXTREMELY satisfied with my purchase
The “raised switches”, it’s to easily swap the switch and the 12v socket when swapping it to the European version. To support your rant about cheaping out lol.
@Lassi Kinnunen The Saturn Ion also had center gauges, I think for the same reason. Make it easy to install for LHD or RHD, just rotate the gauge cluster one way or the other.
8:46 I know that this is a skoda joke but it fits this car Why is the heated rear window Important to Chrysler? So their customers can keep their hands warm while they push it
I actually had a PT GT for a while when I was in college. The window switches are something you get used to. It's nothing worse than my Mercedes that mounted them in the middle for years. The beeping when you put it in reverse was for the Getrag transmission 5speed because it was a dogleg so they were concerned people in the US might not be used to that and accidentally shift into reverse at a light. The little hooks on the b-pillar was for a cargo net that I believe was optional. So when you folded the rear seats flat to get a lot of storage you had a little cargo stop so it wouldn't move up if you stopped really fast. The door buttons do in fact freeze up in the winter. It was comical and usually not too bad. I used the plastic seat back many times between classes to study and have a quick bite. The rear wing was absolutely silly. As a college student the back table was great for tailgate. The greatest thing was after you put a blow off valve you could pull a vacuum line off the wastegate and then run a ton of boost. It made for a very fun driving experience although the handling was a nightmare at high speeds. It was still tons of fun to blow by all sorts of people that thought they had a fast car. People like stock mustangs, camaros, and even some of the older vettes. The worst thing was coming up to a light and being tall. With the windshield angle and height you couldn't see the light. Ugly but fun car over all.
Well said and I had a red one myself (an automatic). I didnt think much and did hate the PT until I saw the ad said 'turbo', then personally fell in love with it after driving it for a while. I wish I still had it but I gave it away after the engine blew.
