Behind every successful street reconstruction is the collaborative effort of city officials, planners, engineers, surveyors, construction crews, and other project team members. While much of the work may remain unseen after a project’s completion, the crucial infrastructure put in place will continue to serve a community for years to come. The City of Muskegon’s Sanford Street Reconstruction project is a perfect example of this collaborative endeavor to transform a busy one-way street into a narrower, two-lane road with less traffic.
The City of Muskegon had a desire to convert the former one-way roads of both Peck and Sanford Streets into two narrower two-way streets. To achieve this goal, the effort began in 2019 and included the reconstruction of Peck Street, Terrace Street, and Sanford Street. Most of the traffic is now shifted onto Peck Steet, allowing Sanford Street to be less congested and more pedestrian friendly. Under the surface of over a mile of road reconstruction, the project also included crucial utility improvements to support area residents:
• 5,770 ft of sanitary sewer replacement
• 3,460 ft of storm sewer replacement
• 1,945 ft of water main replacement
• 80 lead service lines replaced
Congratulations to the City of Muskegon and contractor Kamminga & Roodvoets for the successful implementation of this project! We’re proud to have been a part of it.
