The Clark Family Legacy 

Clark took his initial mining profits and went to Salt Lake City to get get supplies. He then took them back to Bannack, MT and sold eggs for a dollar each. That is a crazy price now, just think how much it was for back then, but people were hungry. He paid the bandits along the trail to Utah to not attack him, but permitted them to attack his rivals. There is lots of evidence of him bribing people for various things, and very little evidence of any philanthropy considering his wealth. I’m not sure he was someone to really celebrate, but his story is very interesting. I think this video is so complementary because they were auctioning some of his collection maybe and wanted to portray him in a fairly positive light. It is a shame that the house on 5th Ave. was torn down. Such a waste.

Amazing these early American millionaires were more interested in leaving a legacy in art and architecture for the public. We have fallen far from what they had I’m sure hoped for America.

WA Clark was a banker from Deer Lodge Montana, and he was a friend of my Great Grandfather, Marvin W Trask, who was the Hardware merchant of Deer Lodge. We(our family) stayed there for a span of 2 to 3 generations after that time and then moved on to a different life. Marvin W, who died the year that I was born (1942) apparently always told of Clark's generosity. AS to the purchase of a Senators seat, his rival simply paid more! That is why they vote for them now!
