The actress who played the mother did a phenomenal job! I came out of an apostolic church and I use to be depressed going into the church. I was told I wasn’t saved because I wore earrings and pants and had to cover my head with a hat etc. This was present day. Thank God I’m free now! I attend a non denominational church now. Side note- I couldn’t believe when Twinkie’s husband pushed her mother 😡

Any Long-time Clark sister fan, knew about Mrs.Denise. She was never unknown to me, but I've been blessed by them since "Is my living in vain". I was a teenager when my mom brought home their record. Vinyl😁 We wore it out. But Denise was not forgotten by long-time fans

I knew about Denise. I watched the concert Gospel which featured them, The Hawkins family, Shirly Ceasar, and James Cleveland. I wore it OUT. Denise was featured in that and years later when it was just four then 3 I remember trying to figure out if someone had passed. This was in the 90s. That's when the whole Denise tea started to come out. Side note I had that concerto VHS and repurchased it on DVD and now I have it on digital. I know the whole thing by hard but I think that I watched the Clark sister and Shirley Ceasar over and over and over again. Those ladies are a gift!

Marley Lewis, yeah, I was loved them as a teen and early 20 something in the eighties too but I'll be honest I only paid attention to Dorinda and Twinkie which is why Denice's presence went over my head as did Karen's and Jackie's.

@@sherrisolomon8673 I was one of those kids that loved music, and since the internet age had not manifested into existence, I studied the album covers, I wanted to know who those powerful voices were. I was thanking God (Lol! This movie brought all my childhood memories back. Both good and bad. Lifetime did something decent for a change. The get a hand clap for it. But to be real for a sec, I do agree that a conversation needs to be had about the church. I grew up COGIC, and because of my family dynamics and beliefs, I rebelled A LOT. When I would express my feelings about the church, I got shut down or called a heathen. I knew I needed to live for myself and not my family and through that and going through things I found God for myself and got back into the church. I tend to do things differently with my girls because I don't want them to go through what I went thru.
@michellelove34
@michellelove34 4 года назад
I can totally relate to that COGIC experience. Growing up was very challenging because of all the rules and many of my siblings left and NEVER looked back lol. In recent years I ended up leaving because I feel like the church has not evolved. But overall I have a solid foundation because of the church! I honestly do not know where I would be if I hadn't been raised with that strict upbringing. But hopefully this will cause the organization to do some introspection.
@lovejones0686
@lovejones0686 4 года назад
@Marjorie Tillman I know COGIC changed over the years and it also depends on the experience. Yes there were good times, but I also witness A LOT of hypocrisy on all sides, from family all the way to the pulpit. Not to mention the judgment and gossip amongst the people. It was a no for me for a long time until I grew up, got my life right with God and found a church I like.
@lovejones0686
@lovejones0686 4 года назад
@@michellelove34 girl i agree with you. If it wasnt for that foundation, who knows where I'll be. As far as church goes, I really had to find somewhere for me. Has the church evolved? Not all the way but you have to find one that speaks to you. The church I started going to as of last yr is part of COGIC but its far from tradition, they are about the community, they arent begging for the 100 and 500 dollar line and its more on the teaching aspect. I love it. Its something there for everyone and they are non judgmental and they dont force you into anything. Best part? Not staying there all day, night, weekend. Its a cool vibe. If you want, I can send you a link and you can check them out for yourself. Just let me know

I’m glad the movie showed The black church culture and faith in Jesus but at the end of the movie they should have showed more unity and not just the big 3 and it didn’t portray Denise and Twinkie in a good light and they should have included them at the end of the movie and I hope you know that Dorinda was not that vain. In their testimonies in the day they stated that they heard the Lord ‘s voice and He told them ‘STop!’ and she barked and the car was inches from going over.. and he told the other one not to get big headed after she got a Lung clot and she wanted to lose weight and got surgery . They should have went into more detail and not have a storyline about how Low self esteem and miserable Twinkie supposedly was. I didn’t like it but glad that the younger people know how things were in the 70’s &80’s . They didn’t approve of them in the church cause they thought they were getting ‘worldly’ but now they know the church knows the were wrong. The clarks spread the gospel to people who didn’t go to church and had internet back then. Thank you God for allowing the Clarks to be used by you and save their lives when they were in error

I am not happy with the movie. Not at all. Before we get confused I am a super fan. There is not 1 Clark sister song I haven't heard and I love and admire them. But this was redundant for me. Everything they showed I already knew and it played out much better in my head. I have been watching reviews to see if I'm the only person who was underwhelmed by the movie. So I'm the only one in disbelief? I expected some good stuff. Not drama but literal good. I saw nothing but bad things happening and them having to sing. I didnt see what was driving them. What was important. I didn't see the love of Jesus, I ain't see a dream. Love. Heartbreak. Nothing. I'm so sad I need to pray because I know this ain't what I waited to see. The music was great. They looked great but something important is missing. It's so clear..

@Kaneslove. I was not a big of a fan as you, but I too was not blown away. I would have love to see more about victory in christ or , love, reconciliation, forgiveness, and repentance. We all have drama in the family, and come short, so it's ok, it's life, but as holy people we should also be able to show more than just that we are gifted singers who travel and are now celebrities for Jesus. I expected to see how they over came, because of their foundation in God. Our gifts do not spare us for tribulations, and I understood that in the movie. I just felt like they did't give a due ending and that Mattie perhaps was too liable for division in her home. You can't just do what you want in your ministry when you have a husband who is the pastor. They both were selfish as partners to each other. Mattie seemed to live her success through the success of her girls.... this could be mistaken for pride(and calling it for Jesus, this is maybe what the COGIC leaders meant, I am not sure, just speculation, idk?)

They rushed it from the time Twinkie got married. They should have made it into a two part series that way they good have really gone deeper into Karen's surgery, Denise after she left, Dorinda's suicidal thoughts and Twinkies issues. Kierra did a great job as her mom. If she ever gets into acting full time I doubt that she would play a harder role.

Lifetime is just the people who play the movie. So it's not lifetime fault that Wendy Williams messed up the Aaliyah movie and Angela basket messed up the Whitney movie.

If you followed the Clark Sisters from the early 80’s on down, you definitely knew that Denise was a very vital part of the group. And we alllllllll love her, we miss her to this very day. ♥️

I am PAW, Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, we are or were just as strict as COGI. It took many years for me as an adult to wear lipstick or paint my toe nails or even wear opened toe shoes. It still my name cringe sometimes just to wear lipstick or painted nails or even toe nails. I love lipstick. The rules stay in you all the way to adulthood. Although, the church is much relaxed today. There are something’s I still cannot let go of in my life. But I learned from the was that COIG was as strict as PAW. I now attend a COIG church. Loved the movie. I thought they got it right.

polivepea yes it was so much missing. I love the Clark Sisters but I wanted to see more about everyone’s struggles and how they overcame through Christ! It need to be a part 2 that focuses on Jackie, Dorinda and Karen life. I got friends who grew up as PK and they were so unhappy trying to live a Christian life their parents and the church was expecting them to live. They had to live their own life with the help of the Lord. Your walk with God is your own personal relationship.... not no one else. I am praying that the sisters come to a place where they find forgiveness and healing in there relationship. I’m sure their mother would want that. Forgiveness!!!

Dr. Mattie Moss Clark was the International Minister of Music & President of the International Music Department for the Church Of God In Christ for 25 years. Her position was major. She contributed so much to Gospel Music that many people don't know. It's interesting that you say Denise was a sister that nobody knew about. That's a generational comment, because older folks always knew about Denise. She sang with them on their first 9 albums. We knew Denise, and we knew the drama, which was not fully revealed in the movie.

You know...I never thought I'd hear people talking about my era as "back in the day" like it was some "other time". Music was DEF better, 'cos that's why it still jams today. Y'all will learn ... NOTHING has changed. Technology just gives another "medium" for people to be exactly who they've always been, and do the SAME ... lemme say it again....da' SAME stuff they've always done. The movie was good...over the top on some parts, but that's biopics for ya'. Shoulda had 2 parts, tho'.
