Thanks for reacting to this. The Clark Sisters are 3-time Grammy winners whose mother was a pioneering gospel music legend in their denomination, The Church of God in Christ (COGIC). I include them in my Gospel music history class where I teach at Northwestern University. I've also had the pleasure of accompanying two of the sisters early in my career. They've inspired many secular artists, too, like Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, and Faith Evans.
The Clark sisters literally changed gospel music when they came on the scene in the 70s with you brought the sunshine. It was so different even compared to contemporary gospel music of the day. They are so talented and the harmonies are spot on.
I'm from Detroit,MI and I had the privilege of hearing Lady Karen replicate holding that legendary sustained note LIVE at church one evening. The congregation went WILD because it was decades since she first sang this song😂
If you want to hear the amazing tight harmonies that birthed ‘Boys 2 Men’ and other R&B giants you must listen to the song: “Ordinary Just Won’t Do” by the amazing gospel group ‘Commissioned’.
Love seeing you enjoy this. The adlibs are always crazy. Got to pull from experiences and things you been through (good and bad) it makes you who you are.
I remember the 1st time hearing about them in the early 70s. They were like me , some were in middle school a couple of them were in high school. Then in 79, I finally got to see them in person. I could not believe what I was hearing, and seeing. Their level of talents and skills were unmatched, either in or out if the church. This recording is probably in the 90s. They were truly unsung, unrecognized, unappreciated due to church division and racism. The singers you hear today are all sampling them in all genres.
That hand placed on her temple is an old school Preacher move. Karen does it right before she’s getting ready to “take it to church”… actually they all do it 😅🙌🏾
You should check out the song Trust Him with Twinkie clark, Bishop Rance Allen, and Mattie Moss Clark. Perhaps the video with guitarist Jabari Johnson and Karen Clark there you really hear how much she sounds like a guitar and get to check out her echo technique.
You seem to like the Clark Sisters' live performances, check out "You Brought The Sunshine" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tzifh6TNB7w.html . It's their most fun and upbeat performance.
Yes!! I was a sound tech and stage manager for 7 or 8 years so all this live stuff hits different for me! Plus who doesn’t wanna see the magic happen!! Thanks for me link 💛
