Hello one and all to a small tribute to the class 66
Based primarily on the highly successful class 59, the Class 66 (JT42CWR) first arrived in the UK in April 1998 (66001 at Immingham). The loco was delivered for EWS and was the first of 250 locos ordered in a £500million investment in 1996.
in 2001, Freightliner took order of a large number of locos, receiving newer Low emission models in 2008.
GB Railfright also brought the now tried and tested locos, and are currently the owners of the most recent arrivals from America. 5 locos (66747 - 66751) were exported from Holland and Germany in 2012/13.
Direct Rail services purchased a smaller number than most of its freight operating rivals, but are still a major asset to the company providing the services required. 5 Locos were acquired from the now defunct Fastline company.
Colas Rail acquired the 5 locos that were initially owned by Advenza railfreight, before they too folded. These locos were sold to GBRf and 5 were purchased from Freightliner to compensate.
Since their inception, the class 66s have led to the demise of many classes of older British built locos, most of which were over 30 years old at the time. The class was simply far superior, able to haul more goods and with a higher availability.
This video is a short compilation of the locos working for each of the companies listed, hauling trains that are only worked by that company (As pf the last 4 years), showing just how versatile the locos are.
66021 Morris Cowley - Southampton (Eastleigh) 03/05/2017
Although Freightliner operated Car rains in the early 2000's, DBC are now the only contracted operator for moving cars around the UK both inbound and outbound.
66546 Westbury - Fairwater (OldField Park) 16/04/2016
Freightliner are the contracted operators of the HOBC (High Output Ballast Cleaner) which can be seen in either long or short variations across the nation.
66850 Long Marston - Westbury (OldField Park) 26/07/2013
Colas are known for operating stock moves such as the one in this video. Certainly more so than any of the others.
66423 & 37609 Bridgewater - Crewe (Bristol Temple Meads) 10/12/2015
DRS are the only operators of the nuclear waste trains that operate all around Britain.
66726 West Burton - Portbury (Ram Hill) 05/04/2016
GBRf were the only operators of open topped Gysum trains, before this service came to a rather abrupt halt after the winter of 2016. They still are the biggest mover of Gypsum, although DBC have been looking at the market.
Hope you like the videos that i have been uploading recently... I would appreciate it if you would leave a message to show that you enjoyed it... Thanks
