During Marine week of USMC boot camp you're allowed to go the PX and get items like a watch. Which for 11 weeks you had no idea of what time it was unless you were on fire watch. The drill instructors recommend we get a watch and suggested a G-Shock. I kept that watch through 3 deployments to Afghan and it always worked perfectly. It was stolen out of my car 6 years later right off base. I miss that watch but it lasted FOREVER. But you can always buy a new one but still. Great job on the video Teddy and team!

I bought this watch in October of 2023 and have been wearing it every work day since. If you work blue collar, I recommend this watch all the way. I work for maintenance and construction for a water company so in the short months that I’ve had this watch, I’ve made sure to put it through hell. Water, concrete, sewer, swinging hammers constant vibration and impacts that come with working with your hands aren’t enough to kill this watch. Also, while some may find the buttons hard operate, the fact that they are recessed help with the accidental pushing of them while working in awkward angles. Robust. No nonsense. I highly recommend

This is my only watch, and I absolutely love it. It's on my wrist all day, every day, and has never once let me down. It's been smashed into walls, dropped off a balcony, put through the washing machine, brought skiing, hit by paintballs, been left in a muddy puddle for a day, and been to the bottom of the harbour, and all I need to do in return is set it twice a year. I'm planning on buying myself a decent dive watch for my 17th (to actually bring diving - unheard of, I know), but I'll never sell the G-Shock. I wouldn't trust anything else on my wrist on a hike or camp.

This exact model is the g-shock in my collection. Never have to worry about the battery or setting the time, in fact this is the watch I set any other watch to when I put them on in the morning. I think it can't be overstated that while the case shape does look strange and a little off putting in pictures or in the watch box, there are few things that beat it for feel and look when it's actually on wrist. Also a great feature I've heard no video mention, while i eagerly await my back ordered Christopher Ward Bel Canto, my g-shock and casio world timer both chime on the hour for me and will be doing so along with that Bel Canto when it arrives.

Remove a couple of screws and replace it for a few dollars. Same with the strap. You can go from a completely beat up old watch to a new one in la few m minutes. This is my watch that I can depend on. I also have the current 'U' model that arguably has slightly better functionality and the white back light is great. This particular one has been with me for 10+ years and has never let me down, despite all the harsh conditions it's been through. It's always been my favorite for daily use. I also have a classic Seiko, not grand, just a regular one, which is perfect for formal events. So, Casio and Seiko have been like two good friends, always around me for all these years. I have the base DW5600, it is just a solid all round watch. I use it as my watch for any physical work that involves potential damage. Funny I bring it in and run some water over it and it looks like new again. It kind of is both a tool but also lives in my watch box as just a nice watch. I am a big G-Shock fan and my favourites are my GG1000-1a5 Mudmaster and GA-700-2A. They are big watches which I like but worth noting that they are thick enough to make putting work gloves on and off at least noticeable. The 5600 you don’t even notice working in and keeps a lower profile when working around things that might catch on a watch which can be a plus.

A step up from this is the GWM5000U which has the exact same 3495 module and all the same features but has a full stainless steel case and a slightly softer/better resin strap.

My dad bought me the original back 1983. Sadly I had to replace the straps and the casing. But the heart is still original. I’m a Casio fan for life

Got the GWM5610 since 2018, among my other auto-movements collection including 2 casio protrek quad sensors solar battery. The most often watch that I brought to my overseas trip to flip over with GMT watches, due to slimmer, lighter, simpler, and versatile at any climate of the country I visited. Peace of mind.

As an owner of the very first G Shock ever released I have a story to share. In 1984 i was 13 and my dad bought me a digital watch, my first watch. It was the original G Shock. I was over the moon and incredibly proud of the ruggedness of it. I told my friends that the claim was the 10m drop, 10 bar water resistance and 10 yr battery life. One night we got drunk while staying at a friends place and while roaming tje streets one of my friends started being an asshole about the watch. He questioned the toughness and ended up challenging me to drop it on the street. I did and the watch was fine. Not happy he said he wanted to drop it and actually smashed into the street with all his force. The watch was fine but the bracelets disintegrated. I was devastated. Hung onto it for a few months but since i had no idea how to repair it i ended up continuing the challenges to toughness. I ended up putting it on the rails of a streetcar which flicked it into nirvana. I never found it so can’t say wether it was still working. A stupid end for such an amazing watch. Today it would be worth s small fortune. Fast fwd 32 yrs and in 2016 I received a package from an unknown sender. To my surprise when I opened it it was a G Shock GA100. My friend felt so guilty after all those years he gifted me a G Shock. Today I ended up purchasing the 5610U because it looks almost identical to the original one, bar the brick dial. I am over the moon.

A truly iconic piece. There's a variant of the G-Shock square to fit almost any taste, but even the original is a surprisingly well made design with just enough pops of color to add character. I do still like my analog G-Shocks more aesthetically, but there is something to be said about not having a watch hand obscure the date window or the like. The only caveat I'd give to people with smaller wrists is that the resin band on these flares out at the lugs instead of being able to pivot down like on most watch straps so it wears a bit larger than the length suggests instead of hugging the wrist. It's something that helps the watch land with the face up with the strap down and absorbing impact if it falls but does impact how it wears. Though comparing my square variant that just arrived today with the one I've had longer, it does start to contour a bit over time. Even if this won't fit a small wrist as well as a 2100/Casioak, this still wins on functions as a beater with dual time functions if one needs a travel watch.

Perfect watch. Legible, stopwatch, alarm, time zones, great size, solar and raio functions provide pick up and go convenience. Only thing I would want to change is the strap which is a bit cheap.

I don’t wear it as much as before but it’s still my favorite G shock. I also have full metal GMW-B5000MB that’s my daily driver for some time now because it has nicer band (replaced bracelet with rubber band) that is much softer. Planning to buy GW5000 for that reason, better quality materials. But 5610 is the most beatiful G shock IMO.

This watch gets more wrist time than any other watch I own. One thing that Teddy didn't really dwell on, but is a great benefit, is that the watch has a world timer function. This allows you to select the time zone you are in where the watch will then show that time. But it will also show your home time simultaneously (a digital GMT). I haven't tested it out yet, but I assume if out of the country it will also pick one of the other atomic clocks based on your global location, just as it does with Ft Carson here in America, to update the time daily. Awesome watch...

Awesome watch & module. I have the GW5000U which is basically the more premium version of this watch at $250-$300 but has the exact same module. It comes with better resin & full DLC coated stainless steel core & screw down caseback, but the 5610 is definitely a better bang for your buck. I love my GW5000U though & think the price is justified

I owe a lot of wonderful watches, but I’ve never lost my love for this precise G-Shock. It is among my most worn pieces and I just adore the practical functionality it offers. This watch caused me to buy an MRG square, a TVA as well as a Stainless Square - but this humble but really tough and charismatic 5610 remains my favorite Gshock and it’s among my top 3 favorite watches - mechanical pieces and all. I just can’t say enough good things about it!

A fantastic watch, and one of my favourites amongst my collection of G-Shocks. I also own the negative display version of the GW-M5610U, as I find its sleek and cool looks as appealing as the iconic design of the GW-M5610U-1 (and although I concede that positive displays are more legible, I haven’t had any major issues reading the reverse display on the GW-M5610U-1B).
