note to self, never tell him when you're planning a surprise party Obi Wan:"Hey bud, can't wait for your surprise party next week on the 8th of May at exactly 2:42 pm at your house in the living room just to the right of your dining room and left of your kitchen, i'll be hiding behind your recliner that is in the center of the living room"
Weird aspect of clones: they perceive themselves as individually different men. Uh oh. What would you do if you were their leader? Tell them the truth or let them figure that out for themselves, if they ever do?
I really love how Grevious always is in a good, happy mode when he enters the scene. He comes out of the ship and first thing he do is laughing so joyfully xD
@@webzter2661 Magnaguard: "How many Jedi does it take to screw in a light-bulb? General Grievous: "Hahaha. None, after I am done slaughtering them all!"
@@TeemoForLife Well theres also the point that it would be a lot better bringing Grievous to Justice instead of killing him, but i agree it was kinda odd
Even if Obi-Wan killed Grievous he would've been risking Republic intel that could've been transmitted at any moment. So forcing him to be on the move was a smart move on Obi-Wan's part.
Few things to note: 1. The clones that went up against general grievous are part of the 212th which is the same group that literally punched grievous in the face. You can’t say that the 212 can’t throw hands 2. This somewhat shows that grievous is still a huge threat. Even with the overwhelming amount of droids, the clones had the advantage of the narrow halls to funnel them through and might’ve even had a chance still. The sheer fact that grievous was on board made the ship already lost 3. I like how they animated even the engineers fighting back with their blasters as kenobi calls for retreat
Can we talk about how well this scene, and many others like it, give a spotlight to how much the Jedi and Clones can come to care about each other? It's glossed over many times in Star Wars. I've seen so much material that shows Jedi flat out not reacting to the death of their soldiers.
Young Culture Films Obi Wan,Yoda,Anakin and Plo Koon were always shown to be close with their troopers in The Clone Wars, Plo Koons gunships have a drawing of him and clones on it and it says "Plo's bros"
Young Culture Films it also made Clones feel more human because the films just glossed over them as expendable, I litterally didnt care in ROTS when Clones died, but The Clone Wars gave them names,Identities and stories every single one of them and I always felt a little sad when a clone died in The Clone Wars, also seeing them get so close to their Jedi Brothers in Arms only to then turn on them makes Order 66 all the more sad, at least Rex,Gregor and Wolffe toom their chips out
Ciaran McGuinness yeah agreed that's the strongest aspect I think. I'd like them to explore Commander Cody in rebels considering the large amount of screen time he has in clone wars
Watch the 2003 Legends Clone Wars on youtube if you want that, he shows up in the last 10 minutes of Volume 1 and has a decent chunk of screen time in Volume 2
I like the back and forth battles between Obi Wan and Grevious. They both win and lose throughout the war with Obi Wan obviously winning in the end at Utapau
Yeah, I love that too. But this battle was so badass! Even though the Republic fleet was outmaneuvered and outgunned, they kicked ass and took out like 2 munificents, loads of B1's and vultures, i think crippled a Providence, and the rest of the fleet was either disabled, crippled or heavily damaged! But the Republic also suffered a lot of casualities.
@@e3nethan910 boring, this happens every battle. how is it cool it kick ass when it happens everytime? the 'good gies' always kick so mutch ass, and the 'bad gies' in this series never have a proper victory, when it happens its always incredably costly. why should i care about the clones? we know they are going to win and kick ass, nothing to really worry about. why should i care that they win? the series shows that even when they loose they win... the series is for people who get excited over pritty lights, i got bored of it as a kid, my little sibilings and cousins got bored of it too. its not fun or interesting if the bad gies are shit.
Matthius has a point. The bad guys barely ever win in this show without the victory being phyrric. The only time I can think of when they won, even temporarily, without incurring great losses was on Felicia. Even Ohnaka's Gang took massive amounts of manpower losses. It even happened with Gregor when he was up against dozens, if not hundreds of droids and exposed tbh. I ain't hating, but having the Villain's win a genuine, 100% victory sometimes would be nice to see. The heroes in this show get too much plot armor for it to watchable sometimes. Especially during the early seasons.
Most of the times we see villains having won something, the dub is usually taken off-screen. I mean, I ain't hating, but I'd rather watch the seppies win something once like they did with the Malevolence, rather than be told of a bunch of off-screen victories.
2:34 "You'll regret that." You can tell that obi wan was PISSED for that little show off stunt grievous pulled there to try and demoralize the clones. Most of the jedi, despite the clones being made to be expendable, were very compassionate for the clones. Which makes order 66 so painful for the clones and jedi alike.
Most of the Jedi treat the clones like cannon fodder, only few like Plo, Obi wan, anakin, Yoda and few others that treat clones like human and truly care for them.
Wish we had more of this Grevious in the Clone wars, the moves he starts to do at 2:17 look so much like the ones he did in the 2-D clone wars, like using his legs and taking out multiple enemies very smoothly and swiftly
@@Fulcrox [comment about how the gungangs are actually super strong and it's not emberrasing that Grievous got beaten by like 1 after killing only 3 or sum]
There's a fan created audio series of Star Wars vs. Warhammer 40k and in it there's a neat little story change that explains why Clone Wars Grievous is so different from Legends 2d Grievous. Check it out it's a great audio series that's true and fair to both sides.
At first I was like: why the hell is he telling Grievous that the ship is about to go boom? It was a good idea after all, Grievous was busy getting off the ship, so he didn't have time to get the sensitive information about the republic from the ships database. Sorry I doubted you Obi Wan lol
0:34 props to the clones who were still piloting and shooting that thing whilst burning alive and with rapidly decreasing oxygen tho holy shit ship 'o' badasses
I love these scenes of the seperatists completely overwhelming republic forces. Since we view the series from the republics point of view we generally see them being ineffective and the war feels one sided and not like an actual war. Also the scene of grevious demolishing clones was chefs kiss
Sidious and Dooku had to severely limit the fighting capabilities of the Separatists because of this. Letting intel get into enemy hands, sabotaging Separatist worlds, and especially sending Grievous out on witch hunts. Seriously, for how much they downgraded him from legends, Grievous remains the best Admiral/General the Separatists ever had, and that due to his versatility alone. You know what I would've wanted to see? Him leading small teams of Commando Droids, taking out Republic bases in remote regions. With his personally trained Magnaguards arriving with a small battlegroup to help take out the occasional armor. Something like a Transformers Prime treatment, where we spend maybe not half, but like a quarter of the time on the other side of the conflict. See how THEY win with terrifying ease.
@@TheBrickGuy7939 source? The republic believed the war would end with dooku and grevious' deaths. Which happened before the shutdown. Of course that could be what Palpatine wanted them to believe so the Republic wouldn't be confused when all the droids shutdown. But still, source?
Damn, even the standard Clone Pilots (not including elite aces such as: Oddball, Warthog, Hawk, etc.) are elite and extremely skilled pilots. This is why I without a doubt think their better than most rebel, imperial, basically any non force using pilots
3:00, Obi Wan: "Fall back! We are being overrun!" *Kenobi and Cody retreating while a couple of chad and nameless clones hold the line as best as possible*
It’s always nice to see the Jedi show compassion and care for their troops, that’s why I respect Anakin, Obi-Wan and Yoda the most, they show a LOT of compassion and care for the Clone Troopers under their command
Even ima gun di cared about his troops. Every jedi cared for their clones. Even tho they are clones, they are still individuals. Maybe they all share the same faces but in the force very different each one of them are. Im certain that the jedi knows very well about that.
Out of all his appearances in TCW, this is probably the closest he was to his 2003 counterpart. Not just from how efficiently and effortlessly he slaughters Clones, but him how he not only beats Obi-Wan 1v1 but straight up forces him to retreat.
4:31 I love the fact that the same theme plays as when the Venators got destroyed by the "Malevolence" while Plo Koon and the clones also watch it from their escape pod
Some Delicious Crisp Perfectly Aged Potatoes. It kinda accurate because it made it easy for the Jedi to predict or tell how grevious fights but I prefer the 2003 version of grevious because he wasn't a bitch
@@pcurranbike 2003 grievous is too OP, being able to take on multiple council members when he doesn’t even have access to the force is stupid; he’s a cyborg/war machine, not a super sith
Jotaro Kujo in Star Wars canon and Star Wars legends Grevious is a very different character. In legends Grevious could’ve easily taken the whole ship by himself
Where was this Greivous throughout the show. He was incredibly badass in this episode. He completely annihilates the clones he fights and beats Obi-Wan
I mean, clone technicians aren't TRAINED for fighting but they still can lol. They probably had orders to stay and fight even though that's literally suicide since the ship explodes less then 2 minutes later ;-;
@@farahahmedkarim377 technically all clones are trained in combat it’s just the final test which determines which branch they go to so realistically every clone can fight
Underrated part of the clone wars. It’s cool to see a smaller battle that isn’t the main focus of anything. Helps fill in the gaps and make the war seem more eventful
1:00 that bomber crew and that fighter pilot were very impressive. Such a shame they were outnumbered so much, otherwise they could have actually been the turning point in the battle.
Scenes like this, and several others show that Grievous is damn effective against a single jedi taskforce. People forget that whenever Grievous was being a coward, he was always against 2~3 top level jedi and basically outnumbered. On the Malevolence he was against Obiwan, Anakin, Ahsoka, and Plo Koon. On Felucia he was against Obiwan, Anakin, and Adi Galia - not to mention often being outnumbered in terms of firepower as well since, its basically 1 army vs 3.
And when the Gungans beat him, they had weapons that were able to disable his circuitry, he may be a cyborg, but he still has a mechanical body. Also, people forget that Jar Jar's traits don't represent every member of his species.
Do you know what I just realized? Obiwan is one of the few Jedi who doesn’t have a named admiral aboard their flagship. Every other Jedi has an admiral except him.
1:24 There goes Killer 1:28 And there goes Engle At least Engle was lucky enough to be one of the few Clone Pilots to survive a crash as you can see in 1:54
The problem that Obi had with this battle was that despite being a tactical genius in some cases of battle, he is not a fleet commander. If anything all Jedi are only ground commanders. It's weird seeing a Jedi without his assigned admiral at his side like how Anakin always had Yularen. The clones that served as deck officers could only do so much but without a proper admiral they were doomed.
2:14 - 2:21 You gotta give it to the clone in the cargo hold of the Gunship. Even after being kicked by the general and disarmed, he still made the attempt to attack grievous.
You know Grievous has a lot of problems with his characterization in clone wars just because of how he has to lose a lot but this scene I feel really showcases what a threat he is. He drops out of hyper space, curb stomps obi-wans entire fleet, beats the snot out of obi-wan, forces him to scuttle his venator, and then makes it out by the skin of his teeth. Fantastic.
3:28 that's the nicest yet General Grievous is to his droids without... 'parting' them aside ... I'd thought he'd be grumpy regardless and smash the droids heads whether victorious or not...
Did you notice, over the series, every time they fought, Grievous has gotten better against Kenobi? Getting more hits in with each battle, forcing him to retreat here and even defeating him in the comics as well as the unfinished crystal arch. If Windu hadn't crushed his chest, their final battle may have gone much differently.
Honestly this whole sequence was very cool with Grievous the droids boarding Obi Wan’s venator. I just wish we would’ve had more scenes like it, or it could’ve been longer, maybe even a full episode dedicated to something like this
