I love the intro to this! Mickey Mouse and some MGM clips really fit the video because of the Mickey ride that'll replace Great Movie Ride and the fact that Hollywood Studios used to be called MGM Studios! Pretty great!

The Great Movie Ride was everything that I love about Disney rolled into one. It had the history, the campiness, the charm, and you could tell it was made with love.

You and Defunctland should do a video together.

I am mad they shut this down. It was such a classic.

Was very sad to see both The Great Movie Ride and The Backlot Tour close! Hollywood Studios has slowly been moving away from the "ride the movies" theme that the park was originally built on.

Ironically, Ingrid Bergman's daughter (Isabella Rosselini) would take her kids to the ride and call it "visiting grandma".

RIP the great movie ride, one of the extinct opening day attractions that always made us want to ride it again (11/10 speech)

Having grown up in Orlando, I’m so sad to see this go. Rides come and go and I understand that things need to be updated but this ride specifically was really the center of the park and what it was originally meant to be about. I rode this at a really young age and it was the first I ever heard of Indiana Jones, Alien, Casablanca...in retrospect I think it played a significant part in developing my love for movies and by extension storytelling in general. Each time I’d come back to ride it, I’d watch the previews in the queue and the video clips at the end and the setpieces of the ride itself and try to keep an eye out to see if I hadn’t yet seen any of the things referenced that caught my eye so I could make a mental note and look into them later. I was always a kid that preferred roller coasters and thrill rides, but this ride was absolutely magical to me. Something about it always made me happy and always reignited my creative spark. Sad to see it go and know that it won’t be there to potentially help inspire a sense of fun and wonder about movies in any other kids like it did for me.

I have been waiting for this!! Gah this was so great!!! The entire intro had me in stitches :) As a film minor and Disneyphile, that’s easily the funniest thing I’ve seen in a while. I also really appreciated your perspective on GMR at the end. I had never really thought about how Disney could properly ‘reboot’ GMR, and it would be extremely difficult to make cuts and calls concerning the scenes. That was an excellent point! Just as the tower of terror in Disney’s California adventure, another defining ride is removed, but at the very least they didn’t overhaul the outside so it still keeps the Hollywood vibe as opposed to a space theme next to a kids area and a Hollywood land **cough cough** However I think it’s pretty nice that they are basing it off of the Mickey cartoons since especially shown in the short clips you showed of the short “nature’s wonderland” which is a clear sign of respect to the original Frontierland in Disneyland, so the ride won’t get replaced by a heartless cash grab that completely removes all the Disney magic/memorable parts of the ride **Cough Cough** I’m looking at you, (most) Epcot rides don’t deny it...

This was one of my favorite rides in MGM / Hollywood studios . It was always the first ride I had to go one once I was inside the park. So sad it had to close . Thanks for doing this video

This one hits close. My wife and I went to DW for our honeymoon last year and it was my first time. This was the first ride we got on together and I couldn’t want to come back and bring my son. Then they decommission it ON MY BIRTHDAY lol.

Really sad that I never got a chance to ride this. It looks like it was a lot of fun. The new one looks like it will be fun though.

As a spanish person, I was like, yeah and theres another recreation of the theater at the parque warner. And seconds later you actually talked about it, something I really thought it was never going to happen, so really nice detail there :D While I think actually the Mickey idea is a great one, and I freaking lolve the new animated shorts, the idea for it, being about a runaway train is a little bit bad, as its still has the chinese theater as the main facade. I would have used the Mickey idea to actually turn it into a Mickey & Pals in the movies, with a bunch of parodies and starting maybe for its famous scene in Steamboat Willie.

Such a great video and a great ride! I’ll confess- for the longest time as a little kid, had no clue where this ride was because of Mickey’s hat being placed in front of it. Either my parents didn’t know or they didn’t want to do some searching. I knew it existed but was disappointed and frustrated that I seemingly couldn’t find it Was glad to finally be able to see the theater unblocked after I went back to MGM as a teenager. Loved it while it lasted :(

The one and only time I rode this, I got the Wild West scene. (Though I'd heard the rumors, I didn't know the ride would shut down scant months after I rode it.)

Loved this ride. Had a lot of memories on it. Loved the hat too! Watched it go down during my second college program.

We always called this the "Thirty Minutes of Air Conditioning Ride." I hate that it's closed, it was a wonderful respite from the oppressive Hell that is Central Florida in July. But I'm kinda pumped for the Mickey themed ride replacing it.

It sucks to see this ride gone, but things do have to change eventually, and I love the new Mickey Mouse shorts, so I'm excited for this new ride.

I went on the Great Movie Ride back when it was still MGM Studios. I got so excited to see that Casablanca scene because of the plane.

Really miss this ride. I got to ride it on the last day of operation. Probably on of my favorite rides of all times.

I worked at The Great Movie Ride for 5 years, and it was more than just a ride to those of us who worked there.

The whole "Alien" sequence scared the absolute hell out of me as a kid. Oh, who am I kidding, I'm still scared of it. Part of me is sad that the Great Movie Ride is gone, but another part of me is excited for what's to come.

It took us like 60 years, but Mickey now has his own actual ride

To be fair I dont know if I will like the new Mickey Mouse attraction that will come soon. I loved The Great Movie right more for the concept and style on about the movies. It had given in for my love of movies to this day. It was also a childhood ride of mine. But I am glad that when I went to disney in the fall. I was happy than ever to ride it one last time before it finally close in 2017. Yet just hope the Mickey Mouse ride could at least have some animatronics than just nothing, but screen. I have see the composting effect onto for this attraction and it looks incredible. Who knows. they may have draw some movie scenes as like Easter eggs for great movie ride with Mickey! Like that be cool to any respect XD

You did great work on this! My favorite attraction at Walt Disney World, I hate that they closed it down. Disney made its name through the movies, and instead of embracing it and updating, they sadly scrapped it. I hold out hope that perhaps someday they’ll do a “Great Disney Movie Ride” and focus on films such as Pocahontas, Robin Hood, etc.

This should have been easy. Step 1: Cut parts that no longer make any sense for newer films Step 2: Arrange it so that there are two queues to choose from, so there is a choice between tours 3: Make a few tech changes where Animatronics do not need to sit in one spot since modern robotics has prototypes that can run; make the figures intelligent so that they can interact with the tour guide. KEEP: Casablanca Gene Kelly (add Debbie Reynolds, too, for queue B. One tram sees Singin' in the Rain, the other sees Moses Supposes.) Wizard of Oz (Change scene to where she is singing Over the Rainbow) CHUCK: Tarzan Mary Poppins Alien Public Enemy Buzzby Berkeley John Wayne & Clint Eastwood Raiders of Lost Ark Fantasia ADD: Titanic Charlie Chaplin (should open the ride) The Godfather Star Wars The Greatest Show The Conjuring Tomb Raider Deadpool The Princess Bride Mrs. Doubtfire Clerks (not really an exhibit, but will be out by the main door as a pre show) Hunger Games The Goonies Hocus Pocus Lord of the Rings (Rivendell, end of ride)

I loved the great movie ride but the Mickey ride is amazing. It is so fun to ride.

I only went on this ride one time, and I only remember half of it. Thankfully I did get to see the cowboys scene, I'm fairly sure, but I will never get over the fact that they included Alien with all of these other mostly child friendly movies. I think I was only five or six when I rode this, and I had never heard of Alien. So when we moved into that area and the speaker says we're going into a dangerous zone, I assumed we were backstage on the ride between scenes or something. I'm not sure how my tiny child brain managed to logic that out, but nevertheless, when it went dark and light started flashing and a giant animatronic alien popped out and drooled on my head from right above me, I thought it was real. I must have buried my head in my Mom's arm for the next scene or so, even once I realized that no one else was freaking out. I was so scared and embarrassed. Even to this day I can't look at the damn creatures without feeling a deep set sense of creeping fear and disgust. I don't think I would have been nearly so affected by just watching the movie, even as a kid. There's nothing quite like thinking an enormous tube headed alien thing is coming out of the ceiling at a Disney ride.

This and the Carousel of Progress were my favorite Disneyworld rides.

I had something happened to me on the great movie ride years a go i was. In the front car next to the driver apparently i had her once before i get in and off we go everything was going great tile be for we got to the shoot out between the mob and cops we where all most thire our driver stops talking after a few minutes i look over at her she passed out i pull her over tords me and i take the wheel thankfully we where headed to the mobster seen i am standing at this point and the actor said whats going on and i said she passed out he thanked me and we continued the ride till the end and I got to meet both of them they wanted to thank me personally that's a true story i was glade i was in the first car instead of the secound one

Ugh this was my favourite attraction. I am still devastated it’s gone. It needed an update for years, and legit two days before they announced its closure, I decided to plan out how I would update it for my own amusement. Still mad about it

This used to be one of my favorite rides, this one and Star Tours before the new trilogy stuff. A shame they closed it!

As much as I love the great movie ride I understand why Disney had to move on to something else because Disney doesn't own the rights and probably got tired of paying the monthly fees. Plus I think it was time for a new ride to be made. Will miss this ride though.

It took several trips and my daughter going to work for Disney to finally get us on the first train so we could see the cowboy scene. In the end, I liked the gangsters better. We broke down during the gangster scene once. Every "Mugsy" they had, even a girl Mugsy, came out and hammed it up to keep us entertained. It ended up being the best ride I ever had on it.

Disappointing how this ride is getting replaced. I've never gone to WDW and this would've been a ride I'd go on first when visiting Hollywood Studios. Still, I enjoy listening to the queue music loop that's available on RU-vid as well as the videos that I've found here

Closing this ride for a cheap screen ride is one of the biggest blunders in disney ride history…This ride could have been updated and been timeless

Shame on Disney for getting rid of this wonderful attraction. I understand brands change, but Disney could’ve used it as an attraction to pay homage to their very own movies which aren’t currently represented in the parks.

I was fortunate to ride the Great Movie Ride once more about a month before it closed. It will be an iconic ride that will surely be missed by many fans.

the intro could've made me cry tbh, I miss the great movie ride so much, it was an all time favorite of mine. Knowing it's been replaced with a lame animated screen dark ride is so depressing.

I so badly want to be excited about Mickey's new ride... But from what I've seen of the demos, it just looks like yet another attraction full of giant iPad screens... Disappointing because he deserves so much better...

I don't remember the cowboy or gangster scenes at all but remember our tour guides (usually women) would interact with the Wicked Witch. (Saying something like dropping a house or throwing a bucket of water on her. LOL)

My husband and I have been going to WDW every year since we got married there in 2008, and I forget how many years into our trips we'd been when we got into an argument about whether we'd seen the cowboy scene before. He refused to believe that we had until I pulled up a picture on my phone. Thankfully at the time I was obsessively uploading everything to Flickr, so I didn't have to wait to get home to find it. But in all the times we've ridden it, (probably about twice each trip) we saw the cowboy scene twice. We both really miss this ride, even if it did seem dated and I have to admit we hadn't seen a lot of the rides featured.

Thank you for your very interesting video my only regret was when I visited it in may 2017 I didn’t make the decision to go onto this ride. I don’t like the new animation style because I don’t connect with it in terms of character and how he looks so I’m into minds of whether I will go on this new ride or not. I do like your badge layout do you have the most actual pin badges? Or so on patches because I would love to buy some of those

I remember being a kid finding this ride boring but the adults Loved this. I’m a thrill seeker even as a kid lol. As an adult I would probably appreciate it more last time I rode this I was like 10.

I got to ride this in 2013 with my dad while the rest of the park was at the fantasmic (think that the spelling? Lol) show. There was only us and a few other people on with us. It was so awesome and fun and it's not something I'll forget any time soon 😄 sad to see it go, but, the new ride sounds like it's going to be fun so I'm excited to see what happens 😊
