Hello everyone and welcome back to The Beatles Forever. Today we will see the special bond Paul had with his father Jim. Jim was nearing middle age when he decided to marry and have children. He was a great father and he inspired Paul more than anyone else.

Paul bought his dad a house in Heswall across the River Mersey from Liverpool on the Wirrall. My auntie lived round the corner. Paul and the family still own the house.

LOVELY to hear how Paul’s DAD lived to see his son develop into one of the best songwriters that has ever lived….And how Paul when he was famous went on to help Dad after he suffered the tragedy of losing Paul’s Mum.

Thank you so much for this video! A lingering, burning question for me is how Paul's dad reacted to The Beatles' success and fame. I would think it might have been overwhelming for him and for the other's families too. How nice that Paul made a point to take care of his dad too. I'm sorry that Paul's son never got to meet his paternal grandfather. If memory serves, all three generations were named 'James.'

Paul's dad was thrilled with Paul's success. Paul said he was out with his father at a restaurant and Jim said to Paul that everyone was looking at them and was more excited and happy about Paul being the center of attention than Paul himself.

The fundamental difference between Paul and John is, Paul had a dad he loved and respected and John did not.

One of the insights of the Get Back documentary was the basic simple goodness of everyone, how the kids were indulged and cherished, how the Beatles just larked about - there is a rather touching scene where Linda and Yoko are simply enjoying each others company. This video confirms this perception and fills in some of the background. Being stratospherically famous brought its own pressures no doubt but the humanity and love evident in their early lives perhaps found its way into the music and that may be one of the reasons it touched so many?

Thanks! Excellent! I happen to know Paul's reason why he deliberately flubbed his Liverpool Cathedral Choir audition as a kid: From "McCartney" by Mr. Norman: Paul thought Liverpool Cathedral... too posh. Therefore, uncomfortable. Rather, Paul auditioned and joined a choir in Allerton, the village he lived in, part of wider Liverpool.

Paul McCartney inherited his father Jim McCartney's ( who as you correctly said Paul was named after,Paul is his middle name, and he named his only son,James after his father) natural music talent but to an extreme rare degree, his father was a self taught jazz pianist, at 10 he broke one of his eardrums, and by 14 taught himself to play the piano and he was the leader of his own jazz band Jim Mac's Band who were popular in Liverpool clubs. But his father wasn't a poet, and Paul can and did write great lyrics but even when he did,it was his music composing and bass and just about anything else playing that was the most outstanding. Jim even wrote a really good 1920's jazz instrumental,Walking In The Park With Eloise that Paul and other musicians recorded in 1974 and it's on the 1976 Wings At The Speed of Sound album and it's on youtube. Paul's father's father, also was naturally musically talented and he played brass in a band, and is to have had a very good singing voice which is where Paul also got his once great singing voice for rock, love songs and everything in between. Paul has been in The Guinness Book Of World Records since 1979 as the most successful song writer of all time,Paul was also given an honorary doctorate in music from Sussex University in 1988,and another one from Yale University in 2008. Paul even helped his younger brother Michael with his once only somewhat successful music career, but his brother gave it up and was a better photographer instead. Paul is such a rare natural music genius that he woke up with this beautiful masterpiece in his head at only the age of 22 with a piano by his bed. Paul wasn't sure that he wrote it at first so he went around singing it to a lot of different people and asked them if they had of it before and they all said no and then Paul realized he wrote it. Here in this great TV Guide interview from May 2001 he talks about how he likely wrote Yesterday subconsciously about the sad death of his mother Mary who was a nurse and a midwife and she died of breast cancer at only the age of 47 when Paul was only 14 and his brother was only 12. Paul also said he has music in his genes from his Dad. Paul said that he realized as a kid that he couldn't sing and play trumpet at the same time. John inherited his mother Julia's natural music talent because she was a self taught banjo player and as Paul said which was unusual in the 1950's for a woman and she sang too. John's paternal grandfather sang in a band so that must be where John inherited his unique strong beautiful singing voice.

The first set of photographs are from western avenue . I lived in a house adjacent and our garden backed onto The McCartney’s . ( although they had moved when we lived there ) my grandmother knew Mary McCartney quite well . Mrs Carney moved into the house when they left and my sister was a friend of her daughters and would often be a visitor to their house at 72 western avenue. For the people who will start an argument about why Paul wasn't able to attend his father's funeral (information from Keith Vernon Adagio): When his dad Jim McCartney died on March 18,1976, Wings was on the European leg of their world tour and in a troubled frame of mind, Paul was advised not to come for his dad's funeral by his stepmom saying that if he'll throw everything away and come up to Liverpool for the funeral it'll all be just a circus and definitely won’t bring his dad back. Paul then realized all the media and people that'll ruin his dad's solemn moment that he decided that what his stepmom had said makes sense after all. So he went on with the tour where they held their first performance for that year in Copenhagen, Denmark. Paul never saw his dad again, even for the very last time. That is the price of fame, and the show must go on. Paul McCartney went on and did what he was born to do. Carrying in his heart and mind the memories of his dad who has always been proud of him and his music.

Therefore, it's illogical for others to fabricate various tales or impose their interpretations on someone's personal life, especially when they are not a part of that private circle and lack a personal connection with those involved - A message for those PID freaks who can't just live and focus on their own lives instead.

When the elder McCartney died William,er,Paul was doing a tour in Australia & in an interview there expressed no grief or even concern. He did not attend Jim McCartney's funeral citing that it would cause a distraction despite claiming to have a close relationship with his father. The real reason is because the family would not have Billy attend & do not care for him as well. How could this happen? Remember these people are loyal subjects of the Crown & The Beatles were a majot economic driver for the country.

@@matroxyeah but that sounds like it crossed the line into unreasonably controlling. Makes me wonder if there isn’t more to Heather Mills’ claims about her experience.

James Paul McCartney died in car crash on September 11 1966 and was replaced by William (Billy). This is the truth no matter what!

I think John and Paul both lost their mothers like about less than a year apart or something.

Great video but unfortunately the picture you use to promote the video is fake mustache billy and a fake Jim.

Paul and Jim always had a wonderful relationship but Billy didn't even show up for Jim's funeral. There was Zero connection there.

I was watching to note if there were photos post 1966 of them together… I don’t want to believe it but it gnaws at me.

Its been said that Macca was performing when his father died and was buried , this isn't true, He did a show on the 21/3/76 in Copenhagen and nothing on the day of his fathers funeral then on the 23/3/1976 he performed in Rotterdam. So a whole day and not far from England

For me videos like this are only relevant up to 1967. No point in any relationship stories after that time since they were obviously fabricated to aid the illusion that Paul McCartney was still alive after 1967, which isn't the case.
