I went to the 2017 Indy 500 with Alonso competing. It was an amazing experience and race, with Dixon making the longest airborne flight in history and getting out of his car only with a slight limp! It's great on TV, but you have to be there to truly experience the Greatest Spectacle in racing! A must on your bucket list.
1992 was my second 500 in person. It was also the coldest 500 ever which was the reason there were so many cautions, the tires couldn’t get warmed up. I know there was a wind chill of 35 and I definitely felt it but it was worth it.
Fyi...check put the 2013 Freedom 100 finish. A 4-wide photo finish as 1st through 4th within 0.0044 sec. This was IndyCar's junior series then called Indy Lights (now called IndyNXT).
Had Scott not been penalized for his premature restart his fight with Villeneuve would have been a hell of a close one between two drivers fighting to be the first Canadian to win the race, something only done once after and even then not officially.
One of the reasons it took until 1982 for a real close finish is that until 1979, the field didn't pack up behind the pace car when the race ran under caution. The cars would slow down and maintain their positions until the green came back out. So if you were half a lap behind when the caution came out, you'd probably still be half a lap behind when the race went green again. The only way to close on a leader who was running away with the race would be to either use pit strategy or hope they had mechanical problems somewhere along the way.
You couldve added the photofinish or like a slowmo of the finish line so that we coukd have notion in meters or feet how close were they? Bc at240mph i want to see how many mm were there?
@DylanJamesGP do you have the speed data and the size of that year's car? You could add a note saying like that meant in that race they were X cm distanced apart. As a suggestion ofc. I don't make RU-vid videos so idk how accessible are this info. But just ideas for future stuff.
