@FairDealDan Great video, thanks. Yeah, they do go flat for a moment at the end, but that tells us the performance was really live, and, as the great Robert Shaw is supposed to have said, "never be the only one who sings the right note."
Thanks. I posted he video and always wondered who PW was...thought it might be the host..and I thought the sax might be Plas Johnson but never really knew..and am I the only onle that notices there a bit flat on the very last note? No big deal
A friend of Plas Johnson brought this clip to my attention. Plas Johnson is a fantastic tenor player and still going strong but he is not in this clip and I do not know who is playing tenor. A Frank Culley played on one of the Clovers' early hits, "Don't You Know I Love You", which is covered in the Clovers' history but he is not given credit for this tune. Compare the face on the clip with an early photo of Johnson. But thanks for mentioning his name!
@rockandrollsax Culley demanded that in order for the Clovers to use his band on Don't You Know I Love You and Fool, Fool, Fool that he be allowed to take the solo
who is the man on the left? is he the bass part? They always leave him out so I can't see his lips and what he is singing. So inspiring. Thanks for the post!
Yeah, Harold Winley the bass singer got his own mic. The camera does cut to him a few times. Btw that's Billy Mitchell on lead because their original lead, Buddy Bailey, was in the service.
