Fantastic! For all you bagpipers out there, does it seem to you that Galician bagpipers have alot more fun playing than Great Highland pipers? I play the big pipes, but we don't get to jump around like that and have fun.
@PRINCESORH "Esmedieval" is talking Mallorqui language spoken in Mallorca. Island in the Mediterranean Sea. In northwestern Spain we speak Galician language.
@ranzamaceanruig fr4nbl is right, I've tried both instruments. Galician bagpipes do not need much air, you can blow into the bag every 10 seconds, which is different to highland pipes where you usually need to blow into the bag every 2 seconds ! And you need to press the bag way harder with the Highland one. That's why Highland pipes are way louder. The fact that it's difficult to danse with Highland pipes doesn't mean you're not having fun !
Seriously, I play the GHB and I did a couple concerts with Carlos Nunez. He could probably jump around like that playing a GHB, too. The guy is phenomenal! He can play faster than Stu Liddell and not miss anything.
@PRINCESORH Gallego is currently the official language in Galicia, has its origin in Latin. It isn't a dialect of Spanish. In the thirteenth century was called Galician-Portuguese and was the most popular language for poetry in the Iberian Peninsula. Later, Portugal was an independent kingdom. But the territory of Galicia became part of the kingdom of Castile and the Galician language was forbidden (for official documents) from then until the nineteenth century.
the air isnt that problem, the power ist it... but it depends on the reed. schottish pipemusic is made for marching galician/asturian/... is for fiesta !!!
Yeah, you would never be able to stop blowing for more than it takes to take another breath on the Great Highland Pipes. Unless it is the end of the performance.
You have reason completely. The truth is that I was not sure what the last reel. I was confusing due to the speed and tone so acute of the Galician bagpipe. Thank you for the correction :)
@fr4nbl oh cool. Now is Galician considered a language unto itself or is it a dialect similar to castellano Spanish?.. Just wondering, i'm a language geek.
@ranzamaceanruig Well, I've never played the bagpipes. But I think the Scottish bagpipe takes a lot more air. I do not think you are eager to jump. Here in Galicia love the powerful sound of the great Scottish bagpipes, but the Galician bagpipe is designed to festive music.
@PIOBAIREACHDMHATH yeah, but the chanter on that thing is like playing an old school wooden chanter, not saying he's not incredibly talented, just that it would be much harder to play that fast, that well on a GHB.
