Orphaned after an accident, Jacey (Penny Bae Bridges) is put under the care of her grandmother, Georgia Porter (Gena Rowlands), a white Southern woman she had never met before. This comes as a shock to Georgia, who didn't know that her son-in-law was an African-American. Georgia and Jacey do their best to overcome the stereotypes they both hold, but things get even more complicated when Jacey's paternal grandfather, Lou Hastings (Louis Gossett Jr.), also claims custody.

I love this movie. Its wholesome. You can understand the racial tension without one slur being said, you can understand the conflict without one voice being raised, you can see the romance developing without even a kiss or intimate scene. It's beautiful. These days people need things to be thrown in their face to understand.

I agree. Love scenes are not necessary when two actors are good at their craft. Besides, it is offensive to me and i'm sure most actors to be forced into nudity. Different pigment shades are what makes each of us unique and beautiful. We all are one race. What a waste of this world and the good we can do when all people unite for the common good instead of hating our neighbor. Just look at all of the devised hate and separation in the media to create chaos. Don't buy into it and turn off the lies on TV. It is being done on purpose to cause civil violence amongst us. When Americans work together, we can do great things. God Bless the United States and the Planet! It is a gift if we learn to be good stewards and protect it for future generations. 🌎⛪🇺🇸 As God says, "Love One Another As I have Loved You."

We can assume, that Georgia and Jacy, had a little private talk about Lou - after he left, leaving that box. It was what was in that box that caused Georgia to reconsider allowing him to go back to San Diego-judging from what Jacy also told her. She realized then, that she needed Lou there to help her with Jacy - to have a complete recovery.
@cristya2042
@cristya2042 3 года назад
I mightve missed something bc all i saw in that box was a pic of the lil girl w her parents & the star bracelet that belonged to the lil girls mom.. I dont understand why the grandfather went back to san diego instead of staying to help the grandma raise Jacey.. They both wanted him to stay
@tanmaxwell4599
@tanmaxwell4599 3 года назад
@@cristya2042 To understand why he left, you have to be a man(smile).LOU knew that from the playful cold drink shower on her and him in the neighborhood park and the hugging glance afterward between them on the porch of her house, that she was resisting his advances understandably; but nevertheless, she told him why she resisted them so he left. A man just can't take being rejected for being a man. He then left to get away from her - for to stay would be too painful for him. She realized from the box, that her daughter Lily Jo did love her, and that was what she needed to raise Jacy -with Lou with her - not Lou's love. Georgia knew what she was getting into by wanting him to stay - and was willing to go through all that. I wished there was a sequel to this movie so we could see what happened had he stayed. The Georgia Peaches group would have dismantled that's for sure.

Darling we are human. and I grew up not knowing about people were called or were racist or didn’t like certain religions. But I knew people in the next village or county were? inbreeds not honourable. ect, etc. we don’t like different it a ¨survival instinct¨ Sorry people if we are talking about the human race and not robot then we do not want to different. I had never seen a person other than white and catholic until I was 5 maybe 6 years. I had never heard any comment except we were all equal. I like people I like nothing to do with creed or colour. However a human instinct cannot be changed. however WOKE the world wants us to be. Be responsible for YOU

You're correct. But too big racial taboos centuries-old, faced them to overcome - and the directors understood this - and it would have taken several sequels to even begin to scratch the surface of removing what stood between them - so they didn't even bother. They left us with the thought that at least they ended the movie pointing them in that direction for their granddaughter's sake, not theirs. JADA PINKETT, should a mini-series of this movie - as an anti-racism agent, to continue the campaign, of attacking racism - that still is in each one of us whether we realize it or not.

In UK we had an influx of families from Jamaica, a post war Govt. initiative as there were many vacancies. I was partnered with June James, to help her find her way around the school. She was lovely, friendly, clever and caring. Not my normal experience during my school years. June invited me to her home after school, she had a number of siblings and her mother was still nursing her youngest. June went to wash herself then did a some chores before we could play. I loved every minute, very happy memories. 😌🥰

She, Penny (Penelope) Bae Bridges, doesn't seem to be part of the acting scene too much anymore. Not sure. Anyway, a while back, she played in Space Jam, Boy Meets World, and also played "young Mona" in the t.v. sitcom Half & Half. Todd Bridges, best known from the "Diff'rent Strokes" comedy is her 55 year old uncle : ) Hope this quenched a little thirst of curiosity, Marshan. Lol! Have a beautiful day.

When my Dad was dying I went to the church.The wife was still there her son's grown and husband passed away.It was so good to see her and people that were left.Reverand Fleming was passed. Another Reverend. We were a family in the church.I grew up in it. It was right across the street from our house.When Reverand Fleming died the whole town turned out driving cars through town to Green Hills cemetery.Oh did I mention some high minded people left the church because Reverend Fleming wouldn't turn that wonderful family away? Reverand Fleming was like A Man Called Peter lived what he preached.They made a movie after Peter they should have of Reverand Fleming for it was more real.

My favorite scene was that hug scene between Georgia and Lou (1:17:40)where two seasoned actors played the best acting. A lot of racist inspired taboo was shattered by these two in this scene:1)That all white women have a secret desire - to make love with a black man. Georgia, in a time of weakness, resisted that urge and showed her strength to push away. She earned real personal respect right there from Lou- though the rejection hurt his manhood. She had to show him, that she wasn't a hussie in secret. She knew that hurt him - enough to get from her, and Sweet Creek, and go back to his house in San Diego, even forget the lawsuit against her for full custody of Jacey. So that rejection devastated him.2) Not all black men lust after white women in secret. Lou was very defensive about being alone around Georgia and living in her house at first -he only thought it was very temporary, and he and Jacey would be out of there in a matter of days. Jacey was the reason he stayed there as long as he did because Georgia refused to let her go.3)All biracial kids are confused. Jacey destroyed that lie in her brilliant performance.[I never get tired of watching that scene in the movie - it is classic drama at its best.]
