Although I am a biologist, I never used "colugo" to refer to these animals. That's because I speak French and we use a different vernacular genus name. The French name for these animals is "galéopithèque" , which is copied from the 16th century Latin name for these animals. Latin was the international language of communication for scientists until the 18th century, so some of these names have stuck, and French being so close to its mother language, it retained the old name. A name which is great too, as it is made of 2 Greek roots: galee/weasel and pithekos/ape or monkey. A primate with a weasel head is a colorful moniker for these beasts.

The explanation of the evolution of this animal is amazing. The sun is decreasing its size due to the loss of energy. If you reverse your thoughts and imagine that every past year the sun was larger. I think that the size of the sun would have surpassed the earth 20000 years ago! What about 4million years ago. Please do an episode explaining this.

@@Chaos89P@Chaos89P I wouldn't know; I've never had it; I also have no intentions of having it; Peccaries are very musky; it's how they earned the nickname "skunk pig," and chances are that will carry over to their meat.

About 15 years ago I spent a few nights on the island of Langkawi, Malaysia, a bit of a wash for wildlife watching because of heavy rain. But one evening I took a short walk near my hotel and saw a strange-looking creature glide among the trees. I asked the hotel staff what it was and they told me COLUGO, a completely new animal to me. I feel so lucky to have seen it. Several years ago I learned that there is a glide suit named after the colugo, but I don't think I'll try it.

Colugos are a bizarre species, like the aye-ayes from Madagascar. All the more reason to preserve them like any other creature in nature. Because of their range throughout Southeast Asia, they’re also found in Singapore, the most industrialized country in the world. So much so that they’re very little spaces of natural landscapes while the rest are in their and/or between the cities. Their work of being eco-friendly after the years is exquisite but overall, pointless, in my opinion when they should at least, half of what it once had.

These are fascinating little creatures, and rather beautiful in their own unique way. I thought Flying-fox Mums had it hard, flying with their babies hanging on by clamping down on a nipple and clutching her body with all their claws. Colugo Mums have to hold baby against their bellied with their tails. That must make their glides and landings more cumbersome. Those flying squirrels who look like shy boys working up the courage to ask for a date, could have been invented Ghibli Studio artists, kind of like Totoro.🖤🇨🇦
